Chapter 104: Chapter 104

Liam helped Veronica to sit up. He wanted to deal with Beth but he needed to get Veronica to a quiet area to get her out of her wet clothes first and help her to warm up.

Veronica didn’t speak to him yet which concerned him. Liam couldn’t have another repeat of her not knowing who he was. They were finally getting to be closer to each other so for her to end up in that situation would put a damper on everything.

Veronica walked with Liam to get away from the crowd. There was a lot on her mind at the moment so she couldn’t speak. All she wanted was to sit down and be out of the way of all the people trying to get a good look at her.

"I’m not going to let her get away with pushing you. She can run and leave but there are a lot of witnesses to what she did to you. I just need to see that you’re fine first. Please give me a sign that you’re fine," Liam said, wanting to hear her voice. "Do you know who I am?"

"My husband. I didn’t lose my memories again," Veronica spoke softly.

Liam sighed in relief. It was good that nothing changed this time around. It shouldn’t have since he got to her quickly. "I should have gotten Beth away from us sooner."

"We wouldn’t be able to when she’s so drunk. Beth always does something stupid when she’s drunk which is why her uncle warns her not to drink at these parties. We must have scared her," Veronica said.

"Still, we should have walked away from her sooner. She’s making herself look guilty which is good for us. No matter where she tries to run, I can track her down and bring her back here. It’s hard to not be like everyone else and take matters into my own hands but after tonight, I need to do it to protect you," Liam said, his mind made up.

All he wanted now was to push Beth from somewhere and watch her sink without anyone to save her. It was cruel considering what Veronica went through but Beth didn’t care for Veronica a moment ago.

Liam took Veronica inside the first empty room that they came across and locked the door. Most of the guests were concerned about Veronica but it wouldn’t be long before it turned to speaking about her relationship with the Harpers.

Veronica sat down on a chair and touched her head.

"Tell me what you need and I will get it for you," Liam said, worried about how she slouched over.

"My head hurts. I need something strong for a headache and some water. Just, not a lot," Veronica replied. Her throat felt sore and she still felt the need to cough up more water even though there wasn’t water in her mouth. "Don’t be gone too long."

Liam didn’t want to leave her alone but it would be faster if he ran to get it. He reluctantly left Veronica behind, hoping nothing would happen while he was away.

Veronica sat up when the door closed. Her head was hurting but it was the least of her concern. Some things were still fuzzy but for the most part, she somehow remembered a lot about her life.

The one thing that was most clear to her was how she ended up in that hospital room. She had seen the face of a woman she couldn’t make out but it hadn’t been a woman on the boat with her.

"I locked eyes with her," Veronica said, recalling seeing Beth after she was pushed into a car.

She managed to look out the back window of the car and saw someone standing there before she was knocked out. It wasn’t Beth that almost killed her but she was meeting with Beth that day.

Veronica didn’t understand why she had some of her memories back. She couldn’t be certain she had everything back since she was so focused on what happened recently. She would need to be questioned by Liam to see how far back she remembered to.

Veronica remembered meeting Liam to know that she hadn’t dated him because of Beth. She wanted to avoid him so she wouldn’t get caught up in his world. She remembered how angry the two families had been and how furious they got when they were left off the invitations.

Most importantly, Veronica knew who did this to her. It was one of Liam’s relatives.

All because she didn’t fit the perfect image of what he had planned for Liam.

Though it was traumatic to experience drowning again Veronica was grateful that some of her memories came back. She knew what she did and said to anyone before her accident so nothing could be twisted.

Aside from knowing the culprit behind all of this, Veronica remembered getting close to finding her father. He was a dangerous man she should stay away from if she didn’t want to be judged but she still wanted to meet him.

"I can’t remember," Veronica said, failing to put a face to the man she knew as her father. Her memory of him had never been much before since she left him when she was young. Still, Veronica knew how to find him.

The door opened, revealing Liam with a small medicine packet and a bottle of water.

"Clark had medicine around for emergencies. He’s not allowing Beth to leave and he called the police. She’s aware that you don’t know how to swim so what she did was careless. What’s wrong?" Liam questioned, confused by her gaze.

Veronica couldn’t help staring at him. With all that she remembered from their past, she loved him even more. "That was careless of you to not tell me everything in the beginning. What made you think I couldn’t handle it? Did you want to lose me?"

"Wait," Liam said, needing a moment to grasp what was going on. "You’re losing me here. Are you going back to when I took you home after the hospital?"

Veronica folded her arms. "I am. My family is screwed up but you could have said something. You’re lucky that I love you a lot because there was a good chance that I might have gone home to my mother. Well, if they had put on a better act to show they cared for me then I might have. That was the one chance for my mother to show her acting skills and she blew it."

Liam didn’t understand at first but her tone was noticeably different as well as the way she sat. She was not scared anymore or panicking. Strangely, she seemed annoyed. "Veronica?"

Veronica smiled. "It’s good you didn’t get rid of me because I was different. I knew it was worth it to say yes to you."
