Chapter 99: 2.27.3 Give me peace in this dream.

"We are not that deep, they might already be dead," Kairut spoke while looking at the ceiling that was crumbling under the impact of their fight. Their little fight had attracted the outpost that should be the closest to this place.

And if the thoughts of these men had Maisel in their mind, they would ultimately die by their own hands. A sad end to those that just wanted to make this world better.

But Maisel on the other hand was not in the mood for such a scare, creating a mask through earth magic. He covered his face while picking his son up after coaxing him out of his confusion. Before turning to Kairut and asking. "They called me here, you are here as well. Meaning you should know where this will lead us?"

At those words, Kairut looked toward the pool of sewage and then continued. "It’s a closed teleportation circle, unless those on the other side activate it, it would remain dormant. The best we can do is wait."

"Wait? You suggested we work together, right?"

"Use your insects, buy some time. But I say, don’t harm them. Scaring and delaying them would be enough." Maisel didn’t mind asking for assistance from Kairut. For in Kairut’s own words, he had called a truce.

And all truce can only exist on a prior precedence, a trust between two parties, and this was the time to earn that trust. Of course, it didn’t mean the antagonistic relationship between the two parties would end. It would only be a temporary truce to deal with the true enemy of the parties, which was none other than the Blue Lotus.

As for the connection between Kairut and the Blue Lotus?

Maisel hasn’t forgotten about it, his mind is active now. It almost felt as if he was awake after a long time. Finding that his son remained in this world, gave him freedom from his guilt for a while, and this also freed his mind to think clearly again.

Which was why he was not completely blinded by the term of truce. It can be a lie by Kairut as well as that puppeteer bastard. He didn’t even know why they would be enemies of the Blue Lotus after helping them so much.

Hence the reason why the suspicion of being attacked by them remained the same for him.

So carrying his son, which was also a host to that demon. Maisel waited, while Kairut did his work and used the insects to scare away the soldiers on the surface.

As for the reason why they didn’t create a magical contract?

None of them wished to be limited after coming so close, a contract was limited to their actions and this is not what any of them wanted. So the desire to create a contract didn’t even form in their heart.

And just like that, the sewage pool that had driven up lit up. It was only the scum that lit up, hiding the runes down below. But it was a sign enough for the two parties to move forward.

So without further ado, the party of three entered the teleportation circle, and then with a bit of fluctuation, they disappeared from sight.

Remira was dragged by two men, while the woman with a burnt face walked ahead of her.

With most of her joints broken and her hand cut so that she never picks up a weapon again, they dragged her bleeding body to a dark room.

During this time, Remira would sometimes open her eyes due to the pain, and due to the same pain, she would lose consciousness. Making it appear as if she was teleporting all the time, as the scenery around her changed a bit too often.

Making her wonder, where she was and when her misery would end.

’I failed.’ She felt defeated. A radiant knight has to be cold and ruthless, not driven by emotions but by rationality. And when it was someone else’s life on the line, like that in the sewers, she had maintained that ruthless training of hers.

But the moment her eyes had fallen on the weapon of Pierta, her rationality was gone as she had tried to take on an opponent that was far above her level. As a result, her body was ruined, broken to bleeding, unable to ever stand up.

Though, those dark thoughts remained in her mind only for a little. The anger in her mind was stronger than ever before.

For this woman still carried Pierta’s gun on her back, almost as if she wants to taunt Remira to no end. This fueled Remira’s anger, causing her emotions to fluctuate, which were unlike that of Radiant Knight.

But before making some sounds from her broken jaw, she lost consciousness again.

Though, this time, it was a long sleep for her, as she found herself in her old room. A place she had forgotten for a long time.

’I am dreaming again?’

Opening the door, she found a familiar scene that she had tried to hide deep into her memories. "Remira, run... Go to Pierta!!"

In front of her was her mother, who with a sword in hand fought against a wolf-like giant beast. Whose ferocity might break all the swords her mother can find.

Her mother was never a simple woman, a Master Swordsmen of her own, she was barely able to hold back the wolf-like monster whose mere existence was causing the whole hallway in front of Remira’s room to bask in darkness.

Even her body could feel the horror of this creature, whose mere existence was causing a suppression of existential level, stunning Remira, who could only cry in fear as she barely said the words "I can’t move, mother!"

Those fearful words were the reason her mother had died that day, and even though she knows what would happen if she said those words, Remira, still driven by fear, said the same words. Which had finally pushed her mother to make a foolish decision and use her body as a shield as she picked Remira in her bosom and crashed out of the castle’s four floors, giving away her back to be attacked by the beast.

It was a sad memory, being repeated in front of her. And the pain of this memory never disappeared from her heart. She just felt helpless, a feeling that she had become used to. And with how things were happening in reality, she was completely useless as well.

Unlike her past, she won’t survive this ordeal.

Looking at the face of her mother looked worried for her daughter, while her bleeding back where one can even see the bones. Remira knew that her mother would die once again in front of her.

Then like before she would slowly hide away from other undeads that now roam these lands and find Pierta, who would bring her to safety.

This is what it was meant to happen.

And just like in her memory, her mother fell to the floor after the injuries from her battle rendered her too weak to move.

"Run my daughter, find that woman..." Her mother begged Remira to run, for she knew that her blood might attract those beasts from the darkness.

But Remira just stayed there, unlike before, where the fear had taken hold of her heart, there was no such feeling.

This was a dream to begin with and in this dream, she wished to stay with her mother for longer. A face she barely remembers was now dying in front of Remira, and she can only blame herself for all of this.

"I won’t go, I will stay here." She said in a tone that was too adult for her age, but her mother kept trying to force her away from this place. But Remira didn’t care, she took hold of her mother and tried to remember her warmth, which in this cold environment felt cozy to her.

Even if this was a dream and nothing that happened here mattered in the real world, Remira would still choose to stay here, for she wished to make this place her own grave as well.

Her body in the real world would soon die, and she wished she would lose her life in this dream world instead of reality.

At least, she was beside her mother.

And then, the time came when her mother pleading died down, as she couldn’t say much besides looking at her daughter that was holding her with love.

Then, that emotion was immortalized as she died, while the warmth slowly left her body.

*Wooo

Then from a distance, the sound of a wolf’s howl reached Remira’s ears. But she didn’t move. Instead, she picked up a stick from the side after placing her mother’s body gently on the snow, as she got ready for the wolf attack.

"Don’t ruin this memory!" Remira said, her small and weak body suddenly appearing strong and filled with vitality, while silhouettes of wolves walked out of the snowstorm, some like the normal wolves that her father used to hunt.

While some were giant and anthropomorphic in shape, carrying a smell of rot and their heads filled with multiple eyes.

But what surprised her the most, under the moonlight that barely illuminated the scene, she can see these anthropomorphic beasts wearing tattered clothes. Clothes she was very much familiar with.

"Father?"

"No... this is not possible." She said as she backed up a bit out of surprise and fear. Before her steps came to a halt, her eyes turned fearsome. "No, you are not my father, he wouldn’t have murdered Mother!!"

"Vile demon, I would burn you and all your brethren from this dream!" With those words, Remira’s whole body turned lit up in flames. The white flames of purity.

And something else as well.
