Chapter 93: TGoJ 2.26 The third world.

When no one visited Remira for an hour or so after her confession, though thorough her own words, she understood how incriminating and suspicious she sounded. And how weird it was that no one actually spoke a word after it.

But the silence was not enough for her. She understood that the Knights were probably leaving for the warehouse without her.

And Number two, that came here, confirms her suspicions. "You are not to move from here. That’s the order I have received from the captain." She said such words, but it didn’t seem she plans to carry the order properly, as there were various ways for her to take down Remira on her own without much trouble.

A lie while injecting muscle relaxants.

Giving sleeping pills.

And even lying about the time as well as date, giving Remira a false sense of perception, so that she doesn’t do anything stupid.

But Number two chose to do none of those things. She just told Remira what she was told to do, while sitting back in her spot white reading the report that number four had sent not long before.

Which was why Remira couldn’t help but ask. "Why didn’t you lie?" It would have been so easy with all the worries that Remira had, she might not have noticed and fallen for Number twos trap.

"Sir Remira, are you aware of what happened on the surface while you were out?" Number two asked, before smiling in a muted tone, before cursing herself. "Please, don’t answer it, I know you were out... So I think you should see this."

After showing some confusion, Remira took hold over the report and read it deeply. Though the deeper she read, the more twisted her face turned.

"Such a war?... how many died?"

"We can’t tally that at the moment, but with the war, we got a chance to learn what led to all of this." At Number Two’s words, Remira read deeper before turning the page once again.

The fact that a war between military and army happened was already big news for her, shaking her understanding of the underlying problems of the city.

But the winner of the war being the military changed her perception of the military as well as how highly she considered the mages to be.

They might not be as strong as she thought in her perception, nor could she look down on the army just due to their lack of elite troops.

Though, none of that were of concern to Remira, well that became the case when she read what actually happened in the Military base that led to this war and MIlitary occupation of their own city.

"This, this doesn’t make any sense." Remira thought, before turning to look at Number Two. "This war, the spark was that man as Puppeteer as well?"

Remira has said from her mouth how the puppeteer appeared in the body of Farhad again and again to her. But she only thought it was just a mere form that the bastard took. But from the looks of it, things were not simple.

His actions in the military gave rise to the indignation military felt toward the mages and then using the Puppeteers actions as excuses, they attacked the mages in retaliation.

As for why, she didn’t know.

But Number two on the other hand, had some ideas. "Weakening the direct forces, that was his plan."

This was not Number two’s conclusion. It was Captain Clifford that came to such a conclusion after witnessing the state at which the mages as well as the military were left.

Though the casualties were kept at minimum, the same can’t be said about the injured, which put them out of service for a long while.

Even among the Schools of Transmutation and School of Contracts, they lacked personnel from the start as they were the least favored subject and hence their population was too low to cover the city.

"If he can plan this much... then aren’t the other Knights in danger?" Remira asked and it was this time that Number two moved her head in agreement. "I have kept a short sword for you on the side, though not made for the Knights, it’s the only thing I could find. Along with some bombs."

"Bombs?"

"Yes, you assumed it was correct. That bastard probably the knights would go there on their own and he is probably right."

"But I don’t intend to play a game like this, neither did Sir Carrion."

Hearing the name Carrion, Remira who now knew the name understood one thing. ’He was awake this whole time.’

Which confirmed her earlier suspicions, making her relieved that she made the right choice.

Though this very right choice might be pushing the Knights into danger. A danger the Knights would jump into themselves.

"What is his plan?"

"A simple one, while the knights go to the warehouse, tale them and act as backup for now."

"Though the moment you reach the position, Sir Carrion said that your nose would be highly useful. You just have to find traces of Sir Maxim Hailey, he seems to still be alive."

"??"

"How did he learn of such a fact?"

"He didn’t, he believes it to be the truth and he should be there, either as a hostage to control the movements of the knights or as some kind of sacrifice."

"You rat, you did it!!" Adam laughed, while walking out of the military base like a rat himself.

He was a transmutation mage, so the moment he left the radius of the base, his body turned blurry by turning his body transparent like a crystal.

Though he didn’t achieve complete invisibility, it still made him nigh impossible to notice from a certain distance, making it easier for him to take bigger strides white rushing away from the city.

As for the military base, most of the soldiers have still not noticed that anything wrong happened, all of which came at a steep price for my body. But thi was all worth it.

Adam might be pushed out of the game due to the foolish nature of my minion, but it also ended up turning the situation a bit more entertaining.

Though, Adam had to pay for my services and he is going to pay for them in a few hours.

"Kairut, the man you wished to meet before is coming to the site, aren’t you looking forward to it?"

"I would have at a time, but for now, I am more interested in witnessing this god that they worship so much."

In the sewers, which had turned empty with most of the walls being rubbed to remove any kind of suspicious inscriptions. Two young men walked calmly, dredging through the smelly water with one of them smiling, while the other one maintaining a frown on his face.

"A god? Well to you, she might look like a god."

Hearing such words from the Jester’s mouth, even though Kairut hated him, he couldn’t help but look toward him and ask. "It’s not a god?... from your words, have you seen a real god?"

"Well, that happened a long time ago, I was new to ’Unlife’ and didn’t even understand how to ingratiate myself into dreams during those days."

"As for what I saw, I don’t remember much. Some memories feel like they were from yesterday, while others feel like they were from centuries ago."

"But let me get back to the point." I say, recalling as much as I could, but then tiring out as I just can’t explain it.

"I can’t remember what I saw, but I remember a whole city disappearing from the world after it." In my words, I can see the eyes of Kairut lit up for a while, which made me wonder if he remembered the place I was speaking of.

"Speak, the name, I know you know it."

"There is nothing to hide. For there is only one city that disappeared in recent memory, the Island city of Qatpotal. Which happened around a hundred and fifty years ago."

"It’s been that long?"

"Give or take, but yes."

Hearing such an answer, I really wondered if it had been so long.

What year I came to this world, I can’t recall.

Even the memory of that other world was blurry to me. No, they were close to non-existent.

"Well, you learn something new everyday." I laughed if off, before continuing on the topic. "Well back on the topic." I say before continuing my words. "If I have to say, the being that is trying to re-materialize on this land is nothing more than a false god. A failure."

"A failure?" At these words, Kairut’s eyes lit up in surprise.

He had never heard of a god that failed or any such distinctions even in the books that his ancestors left him. So it was the first time for him.

"What you call a god retains their enormous power through creating a vessel for themselves and as long as that vessel remains, no matter how many times you kill a god, they will come back, like the prime daemons of legends."

"As for those that can’t, one death is enough to send them lost into that world."

"The world of mortals?" The words I spoke were surprising for Kairut and his eyes showed thirst that he hadn’t seen in a long while. But this was to be expected of a mage pursuing immortality.

"Of course not, that place is nothing more than a prison for those that failed. The world I am talking about is a bit special.

"And if you are lucky, you might just see that world today."
