Chapter 90: 2.25.2 A fight to look forward to.

It’s the curse of sleep in Gregory Street that called her here. But that matter was already not important to her. The goal of destroying whatever Blue Lotus was cooking was far more important. Not to mention, from what she understood, Maxim Hailey might still be alive, as the attack of Lecarth was just to kidnap him from all the investigation done by Maisel’s men.

As for how long he will stay alive, saving him as early as possible for a priority as well.

Or so Remira thought for a while, before a beastly look appeared over her face as she questioned. "Where do you come into this... working for them and now helping us?" Her voice held hate as well as anger, what happened to Pierta, the figure she saw in her mind was still fresh.

And the story of what happened in Yethel was never forgotten by her. She knows this being that stands in front of her was not kind. No, he was a cruel being that tortures his victims to no end. Even Farhad was sacrificed just to call his father to this city.

Now, the being was using the face of that very Farhad to appear in front of her trying to help her. It was why she didn’t like him much, his face as well as words.

So much so, that her emotions were causing some curious changes on her body, as her hair started to grow wild, showing that she might not be as helpless in this place as she originally appeared to be.

But, there is no need to point such details out, I am already happy to find something interesting about her.

"I of course am just a freelancer, here to do my job for appropriate exchange commodities and my current employers just happen to be Blue Lotus." Hearing such words from me, the anger of Remira flared up more. And of course why wouldn’t she feel that way.

Even a fool won’t believe my words, so these words just came off as offensive to her, even if they held the truth to them.

But due to our circumstances, no matter how much I wish to convene with her, she won’t ever believe my kind words. No, she would treat them as lies and wish to end me for my prior offenses, which is in her right.

Something that I might not appreciate, but I can understand to a certain extent.

"Is that your excuse?" She asked, as her hair grew wilder than before, reminding me of a forgotten family. But this was enough.

The current me was not complete, facing her in such a state would remove me from the equation. So with a laugh as she was readying to attack me once again, I kicked her out of my world, while leaving bits and pieces of information in her mind, which she will recall the moment she wakes up.

Of course, this is if she wakes up. But considering the bloodlines that courses through her body, it won’t just be an assumption on my part.

So with a wild face that wanted to rip me into shreds, I just threw her out. Looking forward to the uncertainty that she might bring to all of this.

But still, it all depends on what she does. For the time of Dyadic Moon is nigh.

The city was boiling as the death of countless Military personnel in the Mayor’s office, as well as disappearance of the Marshall put up many questions.

And when the fact of Marshall planning to raid the Mage’s campus to apprehend some criminal mages was taken into account, it was easy to assume who was to be blamed for it.

So, the next morning without any change in plans, the military raided the compound of mages. Which surprised and infuriated the mages who were hurdling down together in their towers, overlooking the city.

Currently, the whole main campus was covered with a forcefield that protected them from harm. And this would have been enough if not for the situation to turn so bad.

Wilhelm Faust was the commander overlooking the raid, his eyes were sharp and his emotions were tamed.

He was one of the rare Mages that worked for the Military and had risen to Commander position while being a mere Master level mage.

But he was not just a master level mage, no. He was someone far stronger than he appeared, for he was a Transmutation mage, capable of changing the properties of materials as well as masters of creations. They were at the forefront when it came to inventing new magician devices.

It was why he was the one leading the charge in Maisel’s absence. Of course there was another reason for this all.

"Faust, this is not how I wanted to meet an old apprentice." The old Tower Master of Transmutation Tower stood in front of the gate, looking at his old apprentice that had turned to the military.

As for why he did that, the old Tower Master, Venglebod, an archmage of transmutation, knew clearly. Faust was not the one that liked to deal with the tower politics and hence left the tower to a place that would appreciate him a bit more than playing games.

"This is not a meeting, I came here for one thing only." Emotionless like always, not even bothering himself to greet his old master, Wilhelm Faust directly went to the main topic. " Hand over the names the Marshall gave to your men yesterday, along with the names who conspired the attack on the Mayor’s office which took the lives of 44 soldiers along with the Marshall."

"Or we will trial all the mages for the death of our men right this instant, and we will exact justice for them soon after."

"We give you an hour of time, either fulfill our conditions, or..." With an or, the truck that stood next to Faust unfurled a cannon which aimed directly at Venglebod. "Or we will proceed with our Justice, right this instant."

Looking at the weapon that the military aimed at him, Venglebod understood that things have gone a bit worse than he had expected. He didn’t even know who in the Tower was foolish enough to attack the Marshall.

He even complained to the Marshall for disappearing so easily. A man that had the feat of killing two archmages on his own fell to some nobodies without a sound in the dark of night.

Though, none of that mattered at this point. Things have exceeded far off from these expectations. Even the apprentice that used to follow him like a chick is now looking at him as if he was some trash. Which annoyed Venglebod.

"I hope you are aware of the consequences?"

"For the moment you harm this land of knowledge, there would be nothing stopping us from retaliating."

The mages were dangerous beings. There had been times when a mage had annihilated an entire platoon of soldiers on their own.

So a five hundred strong men against two hundred mages was nothing but a massacre. And in a war, there is no right or wrong. From the words of prince or lack thereof had already given them the greenlit.

The one winning this fight would be the one considered righteous, while the loser will face the Prince’s wrath.

"Enough talk, I give you one hour. Escape and you will be deemed to be a traitor. Fight and you will be charged with protecting criminals."

"Or just give those criminals to us, the most you will be charged with would be giving Asylum to criminals."

There was no chance for the two sides to come to a proper resolution, too much was at stake and the Military was adamant of dealing with the mages. Not to mention, after last night’s attack on the Mayor’s office. The Military even brought artillery weapons that were never allowed in the city and then aimed at the college.

Of course, the reason for their existence was only one and that was to deal with the forcefield, but it doesn’t mean this was not a dangerous weapon that can never be used inside a city.

But all of it changed after last night and the Military was not going to pull any punches this time.

And Kairut, looking at all this can only sigh. Feeling gad that his ancestors were smart enough to put the campus of the Lucien Academy, which was also the Tower of Occult, deep below the ground, which in turn made it the safest place when compared to other the towers that existed on the surface.

Which was why, he couldn’t help but laugh at the face of his old friend Vengelbod, who seemed offended at his apprentice from such a far distance.

"Laughing so early in the morning?" I asked Kairut, who was overlooking the events from the clocktower using a simple sense enhancing spell.

"Master, you are awake?" Kairut asked, with a smile on his face. Although, he was drained after last night’s request of mine. He still retained a bit of hospitality to me, who had just woken up from his stupor after wrestling away the control once again.

"I am awake all the time, just tell me. I am curious as to why you would laugh."

"Nothing, just a few past memories where these merry men used to laugh at my tower being built deep underground. Now, they are probably regretting it all."

Looking at Kairut, who used to be so gloomy and driven by desire of immorality, I understood what was happening here.

’A change in body brings change in emotions?’ Nothing can explain the change of nature that Kairut faced beside him obtaining a young body temporarily. A body that would die off soon enough.

Then I turned to look at my hand, a hand that was slowly coming back to life.

I can’t help but look forward to the changes this would bring.
