Chapter 82: 2.23.2 Don’t worry, for I am here.
A blood knight, servants of the Noble Nocturnal and beings of immense power that might rival the Radiant knights at their peak.
They were beings that protected their masters while they slept during the day, while at night, they went on a hunt to find food for their master. And in return, they were given immense power through blood, a power that differed depending on the abilities of their master, their source of strength was their master.
But when these so-called masters die, a rot would take hold of such powerful knights. Just like their master who had returned to earth, the body of these knights also attempted to return to earth and the only way to prevent the fall was for one to drink fresh blood while consuming the flesh of your fallen master in regular intervals.
A method that fools the blood origin in ones body to think that the master is still alive, but there was a limit to it. And Pansar knew that there was not much time for him left.
Among the fight of Blood knights, all he was ever able to obtain was just the leg of his master, while his other two brothers obtained bigger parts than him.
And with his "medicine" dwindling with each passing day, he got desperate and joined the Blue Lotus, even earning an imprint of hex that would make it possible for him to retain his memory in his new life.
Which made it so, he was not that scared anymore.
"Remira, he is a fallen that uses Blood as a source of his strength." The old Knight mentioned while he took out a pouch from his shaky hands and rubbed a glittering oil on his sword, while giving it to Remira for her to do the same.
But Remira didn’t take it, she just stood there, before shaking her head. "I won’t be using it... You become the sword, I will support.’
Pansar saw all of this, knowing that his secret was out, but he didn’t panic while looking at the glittering oil like substance, his own hand moved and he downed a bottle of fresh blood with last pieces of his master’s flesh.
Which caused a flow of vitality in his body, as his thin hands started to swell up, gaining some meat. Just like the rest of his body which grew by a few centimeters.
Then with a burst of his leg, he attacked the two figures. And the old Knight was ready to receive him.
The momentum and vitality exuded by Pansar’s body was strong and he moved like a flash, causing the two to suddenly feel heavy pressure.
But then, the attack never came, as Pansar’s body burst into blood, covering the bodies of Remira and old Knight, along with the whole bar.
Which confused them. But it didn’t even take a second for them to understand what it was., because they suddenly felt weak. Which finally forced them to activate the burning blood. Causing a small fire to blossom over their body, burning the blood of Pansar.
But the poison had already set in.
And from the looks of it, Remira even found that the potency of this blood was much higher than the one in the sewers.
"Remira, take the silver oil. This is the only way to deal with him." With the rotten blood that was burning from the Old Knight’s skin, he threw it to Remira, who reluctantly took it when she felt her strength leaving her body.
As for the Blood knight, he might have let it go the first time. But the moment Remira took the bag, his body materialized from the blood spot and attacked Remira, directly aiming at her neck.
But before he could succeed, the Old knight came his way and guarded against the attack, but he was still pushed back and collided with Remira due to the attack, while Pansar once again disappeared in the wall.
"Burn it... this is the only way." The old Knight said, completely ignoring the rule of fighting while hiding and intended to push Pansar out.
His reasoning is simple as well. He can see that Pansar can only travel into the blood stains on walls, and can come out from any angle. And the only way to get rid of this bloodstain was to burn off this blood.
And what better way to do it than burning this whole battleground. So he just did that. While Remira watched his back, he took out a vial of oil and with a single breath, lit the wick of the vial with fire and then he threw it out towards the wall.
But this was the time when Pansar came out again, directly cutting the wick with his sword, followed by a backhand that threw the vial far off, breaking it.
Which was not the best result he was aiming for, but this was most he could do in his current situation and lacking a hand.
But it worked, he prevented the fire.
Though, before he could reel in from the act, Remira directly attacked him from the front. Her sword glittering with similar glittering that the old Knight’s sword was, proving that it might be dangerous as well.
So what if it was dangerous, he directly deflected Remira’s sword with a simple spin kick, causing her to lose her footing from the impact. Then he followed it with his knife once again, aiming directly at Remira’s throat.
And like before, the old Knight directly tackled Pansar from the side, saving Remira, who also recovered from the impact and then followed up on the attack.
But like before, Pansar disappeared in his own pool of blood.
"This won’t do." The Old Knight understood how dire the situation was, their enemy was far stronger than them and they had no actual counter to him beside the fire as well as the silver oil. Which was made with powdered silver and a sticky oil that would make it highly adhesive when stuck to a weapon.
On the other hand, Remira’s breathing was turning heavier by the minute, she can feel that she won’t be able to keep up after a while. She won’t be able to maintain the state of burning blood for long and the same was true for her fire of Devotion.
And when that happens, she might succumb to the poison, just like Aafik did not so long ago and then history would repeat itself. And this time, she might not just be lucky enough to lose a palm.
And while she was in thought, ready for another one of Pansar’s attacks.
"Before you die today, tell me. What kind of relationship do you have with the wraith... that clown?"
The sound reverberated from everywhere, making it harder to pinpoint. As for Remira and the Old knight, Pansar’s words were odd, and seemed to be nothing but words to cause distraction as well as confusion in thor heart. Which might cause them to slip.
So the two didn’t consider much about it.
"No answers? From your face it seems you don’t know." Pansar said, while waiting for the two to run out of their ’fire’. "Well, nevermind. I should just let you know, I would have killed you in the sewer if not for that clown."
At this point Remira turned silent, she didn’t know where Pansar was going with it. But she can vaguely recall the oddity she had felt while fighting him before in sewers, how all the lethals attacks were aimed at Aafik and things seemed much easier for her.
From easier she means a bit too safe when compared to her then companion that died.
"If you could, then why didn’t you do it?" She spoke finally, which made the Old knight a bit confused. But he remained silent, choosing to listen instead of causing any further distraction.
Though, what the two received from Pansar was not an answer, but an attack once again, this time once again aimed at Remira’s throat, which was becoming a kind of pattern.
But this time, the old knight that came to defend her was struck instead, thrown to the side like a ragdoll while his sword swirled to the side. "His fire is out." Pansar said with a smile, disappearing in the blood pool again, while Remira rushed to the old knight after failing to attack Pansar.
Though, the moment she reached there, the old knight was not breathing anymore, only blood flowed out of his nose. "FUCK!!" She cursed.
"You bastard, fight me directly instead of hiding."
She felt powerless against Pansar, reminding her of the sewers again, how helpless she was as Pansar, even while being a master grade knight, still chooses to employ sneak attacks on knights way weaker than him.
"With him gone, now I can speak clearly."
The voice echoed again.
"Do you know why I lack the left palm just like you?" Pansar asked, but he didn’t get an answer from Remira this time. Her mind was focused on the coming attack.
"It’s simple, I cut it off myself. To balance the odds." According to the contract, he had little time to choose, otherwise the Jester would have free reign on how he would even the odds once again. Which was why Pansar had chosen to cut his own left palm in response to Remira’s injury.
"I don’t know why, but that rat like a bastard treats you like a queen. Saving you who knows how many times. And if not for him, I would have killed you in that sewer that day."
"But no worries, I would kill you now, just like the two brothers from before and then this old man."
"And I would relish in your blood for one final time, before killing myself... to balance the odds at least."
"You are a monster." She can feel her death closing in, the burning fire in her blood was getting weaker and one it blows out. Her body will fall to the poison. And end unbefitting someone of her stature.
An end where she accomplished nothing, neither could she revive her family, better and stronger than before.
An end where no one would remember her just like what happened to her village and Pierta.
But it was at this time, when the door to the bar burst opened and a small figure walked in.
"Wonderful smell right here." With a bright smile and confident gait, I the Jester walked in on the two lovebirds that were talking about dying together. Which, I can’t afford at the time.
"You... How are you alive." Remira asked me with confusion on her face.
While the little vampire slave stopped speaking, before bursting out laughing. "So she really is your weakness." He laughed oblivious to the truth.
He laughed at the death that would soon visit him, but this death won’t be taking Remira with it.
