Chapter 76 - 2.21.2 Dorian District

Chapter 76: 2.21.2 Dorian District

Call it intuition, but Remira always thought that things were not going right since the start. As if everything was made to distract them from the real thing. It was as if they had overlooked something very important.

But the world doesn’t run on intuition, Haseem was not going to let Remira go out just based on her intuition, when she didn’t have any concrete reasons beside "feeling something weird. "Show me your blade technique and I would evaluate if you possess the means to defend yourself." Haseem said, while handling Remira a knife with intricate carving on it, just like the one her lost sword used to have.

Which Remira took from Haseem’s hand gladly, and used the wall as her target and showed what she could with a stationary target to Haseem. Who at the end nodded at her accomplishment.

There were no faults in movements and considering the real life experiences Remira had, there was no need to even consider that she might make any mistake or freeze during dangerous moments.

"I will talk with the campatin once he comes back. For now, rest and pick up some potions and even a gun if possible. The outside is not safe at the moment." A non answer, considering there was never a specific time when the Captain came back to the safe house. Making it harder for Remira to believe whether Haseem would keep his words.

But Remira didn’t act out as she would have done previously. The world was chaotic at the moment and her willful actions might put others in jeopardy, which was why she chose to listen to reason.

"Its good that you chose to wait.’ Haseem smiled as well. Remira was not as rash as they have received in the reports from Maxim, which is good.

On the other hand, Remira, unaware of such a report and in a bid to pass time, looked at the map, while her mind started to run.

"All the marked places are where we already checked, right?"

Haseem nodded at this question, before pointing at three different districts of the city. "Beside these three, the security here is tighter due to obvious reasons." The obvious reason was because the three regions were the place where the affluent people lived, the land under the mages and the Dorian district, named after the mercenary dorian and also the heart of the Durum’s underground.

One can even call it the mercenary street or the place to find some muscle, while also holding illegal dealings in the dark.

"There are no sewers under Dorian streets?"

"Oh, that place once used to be farmland sticking to Durum and hence was never part of the original sewer system, it was only when the city expanded in size that the Dorian street came into existence." As for its expansive history, there was no need for Haseem to speak of it, he just took out another map from the back and put it parallel to the map of Dorian district. "This was developed way later but this map is only 70% complete."

"Then isn’t this place the most suspicious?... I have even heard of the illegal slave auctions in this part of town... its not hard to believe the Blue Lotus would be hiding here."

"Yes, we held the same suspicions and already did our investigation. And in turn found lots of horrific things... and if not for scaring off the Cult, we would have burned those things to the ground." Haseem said with righteous fury, before calming down. "But now... after destroy the cult’s plan, that place is next."

It was the dark of night and the time when Kairut could finally act.

Alone in the corner of an alley where he was hiding till now, his shoulders cracked as two insect wings grew out of his back, while his body released a black substance which solidified and covered his body in a black chitin armor. Lowering his body density and making it easier for him to fly into the air and move toward his destination.

If he went higher, the airways detector would find his position, but if he flew too low, he might eventually be seen by the army. Both of which he didn’t want to experience.

So he stuck closer to the buildings like a cockroach, hiding and flying whenever a patrol passed by, before reaching his destination, which was as deserted as other areas.

But all of it was just an illusion, with his inhuman sense, Kairut could hear it clearly, the cacophony of cries and desires of humans.

Landing in an alley, his body reverted back to the original, beside the wings that fell to the floor on their own.

Wings that he stored for future experiments or potion making.

Then walking to a door, he put his finger to the keyhole and injected it with some mana. Opening a door with stairs that led to the underground.

"Hmm... they discontinued it?" Kairut said, looking at the mark on the side of the stair, knowing that if he goes down this stair, something bad might happen.

Of course, this bad is only relative, he won’t be harmed from some childish trap. But he will surely attract unneeded attention.

So he checked the other entrance and after finding that it wasn’t a market yet, he walked down the stairs and then entered the underground market.

Which was still bustling with activity unlike on the surface.

"Hmm, you came here so late?" One of the guards asked, looking at Kairut with curiosity, but before he could say more. Kairut threw a gold coin at him and said, "Take me to Lechers!"

The guard bit on the gold coin, before his eyes shined and nodded to Kairut. "Kiri, come and lead this young man to Lechers." With those words, a young guard walked out of the guardpost and after giving one look at the head guard, sighed and took Kairut to the Information guild called Lechers.

But it didn’t mean Kairut would remain and wouldn’t try to gain more information on the way. "One gold coin, tell me all you know that happened in this city."

Money held no value to Kairut, he didn’t mind using gold coins to obtain what he wanted at the fastest way possible. And Kiri, seeing the very same gold coin that was given to his boss, smiled and started to explain in detail what happened.

’I don’t know if Jester would be laughing or actually be angry over this situation?’ Kairut wondered after hearing the whole story.

Though, one thing which surprised him even more was the audacity of Blue Lotus, by daring to kill Remira. ’Were they stupid?... did they forget the contract?’

To him, Remira was an untouchable, Jester had told him again and again how great a piece Remira was and how he wished that she survives. Which was why he modified his contract with the Blue Lotus cult when he learned about Remira, giving her immunity.

And if Remira were to be harmed, then Jester would get the right to equally harm Blue Lotus, without fear of contract. Not to mention, the fearless actions of those bastards had even turned Remira into a criminal, forcing her into hiding.

Which would make Jester’s retaliation all the more perfect.

*Thump

A tight slap rang out in the compound, though none of the members of the cult dared to turn their way. All of them just moved like drones doing their jobs.

"Madam, I truly never expected the fools to shoot." Cried the young man who was famous among the business elites of the city and acting head of a business conglomerate, whose sole job was to provide monetary support to the Blue Lotus.

He was also the one that filled the pockets of police and asked them to do his bidding, causing the situation to worsen.

"We told you, didn’t we? Never act on your own, never make your own plans... Haaa! I can’t even explain to you how big of a problem you caused." With those words, the woman took out a familiar gun and aimed it at the young man’s head. "I really want to blow your head."

"Madam please.. Just one more chance."

"We are not running a church here... your little actions had just given that monster the right to mess with us... Do you know how much we tried to prevent it?... One of my friends even lost his hand due to keeping this act up. But then you go and render his sacrifice useless."

"Madam please... I would never act out again.. I only did it for the goal..." The man kept pleading, which annoyed the water mage named Dantalian, the very same person who killed Pierta.

"Shut up you bastard!!" Then she smashed his head with the back of the pistol, bludgeoning his head again and again till his skull fractured and blood started to flow out.

Though the moment she felt he was going to die, she stopped and ordered her men. "When he wakes up, cut one of his legs and his left arm. Then throw him back in his room."

With those words she cleaned the back of her new "gun" and entered the planning room, where Pansar sat without his left palm, just like Remira.

"You know, he would be killed by his associates?" He commented, looking at the bloodied stock of the gun, before shaking his head.

"I don’t want to hear it from a guy with weird fetishes."

"Better than a corpse looter."

Pansar smiled at this point, before going back to the topic. "I have talked with Vanessa, from what we know, Jester is not completely recovered and there are intervals to his awakening... there is a high chance he might not even know what happened to Remira."

"That explains why things are going so smoothly."
