Chapter 75: 2.21.1 I want to go out.

The world was a lot different than before, for there was complete silence even when the sun was at its highest. Looking down from the clock tower, there was nothing and no one in the streets, beside a few outposts of the military in the middle of streets and some police presence that were forcefully enlisted in the army and given a cap denoting their identity.

Because at the end of the day, the military still can’t cover up the whole city and there is also the fact that a war can break at any time on the borders, which might affect their forces. So a part of the army still remained at the barracks, ready for deployment.

"Just what happened?" Kairut wondered, looking in the room where Jester’s new body hid, then he slowly closed the door to it holding it with a simple incantation.

There was no going back for him, things had progressed to an unexpected point for Kairut, but he still kept something in his hand which Jester didn’t know.

A book that was safely hidden in his space pocket, only accessible by him. And from what he knows, the Jester was unaware of such a book. Meaning, he still held some edge against the Jester, something to fall back to.

’He is not going to let me live anyways...’ Kairut thought, being sure of his own belief. He knew what a being like Jester wanted and how they conducted themselves. To them, everyone is just a tool to be used and discarded. A fate that Kairut didn’t wish to follow.

The only problem was, with Jester awake in that body, it would be harder for him to move without leaving any clues.

Of course, he knew the way the Jester did it.

The rats strutting around his feet were Jester’s eyes as well as ears. And wherever these rats will be, there is a high chance that Jester would be watching. So Kairut left the clock tower, using the stairs before reaching the technician quarters on the ground floor, where he found some clothes to change to.

The current Kairut looked in his thirties. A youthful appearance that he would retain for the next seven days, before he reverts to his old self, though older and weaker than before.

Of course, before that aforementioned time arrived, the strength that Kairut could wield during this time would be exponentially stronger than before. As he had all the relevant experience and mana mastery, without his weak body to hold him down.

And if those pesky knights tried to fight him now, they wouldn’t survive him.

But Kairut was not the kind to go around looking for trouble. This youthful face made it easier for him to hide. Though, considering the state of the city, he wondered what can be done at this moment.

"Are they after me?... " He wondered, but denied this idea at once. He had means to find what happened eventually, the underbelly of Durum would prosper away from the prying eyes anyways. And if he pays enough, knowing what had happened would be an easy thing to accomplish.

Which would come handy, considering that there is not much time left.

Being an archmage, he can feel the change in flow of the energy that the living exuded. A flow that originated from the gregory street.

Which was a sign that the Blue Lotus’s plan was underway.

Remira got up from her bed, healed from most of her injury, but lacking her left palm.

The days following her escape had been fruitful to say the least. When she got in contact with the hidden Radiant Knights and told them of her experience while also informing of what happened to the man named Aafik in the sewers, they mourned for a second before a few of them went into the sewers to check if Remira’s words held some truth.

And what they learned through it was really horrific, from which part they checked, they would find the signs of runes that were drawn all over the walls of the sewer, hiding under the moss that grew over it for who knows how long.

Though, to Remira’s surprise, the leader of the Radiant Knights, Captain Clifford didn’t seem much bothered by it.

"They are distractions, just some inscriptions chiseled on the walls, without any magical material as ink or the core, those symbols have no power." A conclusion that was understandable from his perspective. Using the knights to go into sewers and destroy the signs would be too much, but it didn’t mean he didn’t make any move.

Using Remira as a median, he had sent a letter explaining what was going on underground to Maisel who was currently overlooking the occupation of Durum city. Meaning, the amount of force in his hand would be enough to destroy these inert magical circles underneath the city before the inauspicious time of the Dyadic full moon, which was considered a holy event in many religions. As the double full moon was considered

As for why Clifford was sure that it was the Dyadic full moon that the Blue Lotus was aiming for?

The answer was given to him by none other than Maxim, who disappeared before they could meet each other for real.

So, if things went as he had expected, the military would soon start to scrub the walls of sewers of whatever this was.

And either they posed danger or not, it didn’t matter. For their goal had always been the Blue Lotus cult, and if they dealt with them before the Dyadic full moon.

Rending all their plans useless.

But even though this plan sounded perfect, Remira didn’t feel right about it at all. She knew something was wrong with the symbols, not to mention, the way the assassin killed the two knights and came close to killing Remira. All of it felt as if things were a lot more serious than they appeared.

But she didn’t had a reason for why she felt that way. All she can blame it all is her intuition, which was warning her that things were not as simple as they appeared to be.

Which is why when she felt her body was fully healed under the effects of healing potions as well as bone growth potion, which accelerated her recovery. Remira chose to move again.

Wearing the new clothes that were brought by the Knights for her, as well as wielding a second hand sword, Remira walked out of her room and saw the other knights busy with their job.

"Remira, you are up?" A knight came to her, the very same knight’s whose arm was almost ripped away from his shoulder, but with some potions and an operation, he could use his hand once again, though partially. Making him incapable of participating in the field activities in the coming future. But he contributed by acting by helping the group find the location of where the Blue Lotus hid.

It was why he was a lot freer than other members who were always in rush and was here to greet Remira while he was marking up the places over the map of Durum city. Which Remira gave a light look at.

"This place, I want to go and check here." Remira put her finger in a specific sewer hatch that was close to Vaisel’s Enchanted potion shop, recalling the smell of Kairut in her head as well as the way he just disappeared.

She needed to start some way and that was her answer.

But the Knight named Haseem shook his head. "Going out at the moment is the same as going to jail or being gunned down by a panicked patrol of soldiers. There had already been three such incidents in my knowledge, two of which were innocent."

At those words, Remira went silent for a while, before saying. "I am good at tracking and hiding as well." Remira didn’t need to tell her the reason for such claims. The original blood that once flowed in her body was that of a dog totem, its name forgotten with time and its descendants were so hated that they were forced far up north, where it snowed eight months a year.

"Don’t make it hard for me Remira, you know this better than anyone, how the captain is. He won’t allow it. Not after losing so many believers. "The believers here meant the members of Radiance society. A term that was mainly used to denote other members of the society as a whole "And besides, the army would soon raid the sewer with hammers, destroying all the inscriptions, making it harder to hide,"

"You are saying many will go into the sewers?" Remira asked, curious over Haseem’s words. Who thought Remira’s question was out of curiosity and nothing else. Hence he continued. "The Eyes have reported some movement already, the army is collecting hammers all over the city and even recruiting some refugees for some job."

"And considering the information we fed them, they would soon lead those refugees into the sewer. "

"... Wouldn’t that make the surface emptier than before?"

"..."

"It might, but we can’t say for sure."

"But there is a chance?"

Haseem turned silent after Remira’s question once again, knowing that there was not much he could say to deny Remira’s request. But it didn’t mean he would let her go so easily. "Remira, let me ask you one thing. Why do you wish to leave?"

Hearing such a question, Remira turned silent for a while. Yes, why would she want to leave? The Knights were already doing a better job than her. And she, without a hand, is more of a liability than someone helpful.

Though, none of it mattered at the end of day, because there was only one reason why Remira wished to move on her own again. "We might be moving in the wrong direction."
