Chapter 714: 11.03.6 Back to family.

In memories, his face was merely an illusion, his life merely a story to his mind. And the reason for it was simple.

Those that dare to mess with fate, chance oblivion. Their entire existence or mention will be removed from reality, what remains are their actions and nothing more.

Only a few can retain the memory of their existence, people with strong spirits, and mystics. "Acting like you care after disappearing all those years ago... I don’t want your charity." Darde reprimanded his sister, who looked at her little brother, barely able to see similarities in who he used to be.

He changed so much that it almost felt alien to her. But this is what happens when someone is left on their own. Her brother adapted to his situation, finding a life of his own in this city and with responsibilities; his conduct changed as well.

"That is not for you to decide, I will do what I must to ensure your safety." Her grandfather, although a major fool when it comes to looking into the future, was never wrong. Not to mention, she had seen the scene herself and more so.

The face she saw over her dad brother and his wife, the rats that poured into the city devouring all those that got in their way, the death and destruction that was to follow if she can, she will try to prevent it.

This is the least she can do, after all of what has happened.

"I don’t need your help." Darde refused outright. It’s not the fact that he was being selfish or childish here. No, it was none of that.

’She is already hurt.’ If his sister were to tell more details of the future to him or expose some big secret, with no background or capabilities of their grandfather to back her up, she might end up dying a cruel death of her own.

Which Darde doesn’t want to see. "Go and leave this city with Nerissa. If you want to do something, then protect her, I won’t hear anything else." Darde already had some times in mind, the timing of it all, the way his sister came, and the cult that was operating in the dark.

Random things when come together already had formed a picture in his head. ’I will probably die.’ That is something set in stone, and Darde was not going to escape it no matter what.

One thing was already certain, with no knowledge of who wished to end him, it was certain that he wouldn’t be able to meet his family until that matter was dealt with, the rest, his contract with the cultist ensured that he couldn’t escape this city.

’As long as they are safe.’ With not much to talk about, Darde got up, his thoughts already solidified on what steps to take, what to do to ensure his family’s safety, and how he was going to ensure that nothing serious ended up happening in the city.

’I... I hoped things would have been different.’ In truth, he wanted to have a normal relationship with his sister as well, who to him was always closer to a mother. And if the situation was far simpler, he would have loved to see her visit without any anger to even speak of.

That’s the kind of person Darde was, a simple man when it came to family.

But life, it’s a cruel thing, it likes to play jokes on you, dirty jokes that only someone sick would find funny.

"Why are you smiling?" His wife asked, privy to the conversation he had with his sister. "Nothing much... Just glad that I got to meet all of you."

Farhad looked above the city, his eyes disjointed, one falling below his cheek as if his face was melting, the other slowly multiplying replacing the eye that fell. "This city." It was nighttime and currently, after being annoyed by the gazes that were following him day and night, Farhad dared to fight them.

And the result?

Half his brain was fried, along with his right eye. "Understandable I guess." Rudrain was a city right from hell. On the surface, it appeared to be a city comprised of five major districts, with the sixth district situated directly in the center of the city, where only the royals and their guards lived.

But those with greater insight can see some more things.

They can see that the city above was merely an illusion, the things below, now were the stuff of legends. ’Ignorance is really better.’

Currently, he flew in the air, away from his family, hoping to prevent any backlash that might be sent his way harming them. And the other reason for it was. "Speak of it, why are you so focused on me?" Farhad asked, his voice low, aware that whichever existence had been keeping an eye on him was now entirely focused on him.

As expected, a reply came: "Arrogance... I would have killed you if I was not stuck here." The voice alone caused cracks to form in Farhad’s skin, which healed instantly, but this alone showed how strong this particular existence was.

"And I would have killed you if I was any stronger... I don’t like when others watch me." With Jester, he can’t do much. But this one, he can. He can crush him as long as he has strength.

"Haha... I hate you. The day I get out, you will be the 52820185th to die by my hand." Spoke this man, his voice cracking and filled with murderous intent. But it was obvious, due to this very murderous intention, that this being was tied up in the city.

As for who did this, it was obvious without even thinking.

"I don’t intend to die, nor can I die," Farhad spoke before turning to look toward the city. "Why are you watching me so intently... others do that, but from time to time, they don’t bother making it as obvious as you do... why?"

There were many legends in the districts, all of whose job was to maintain security for the royal family.

Their gazes were obvious, and most of the time, in houses like his sister’s where Prince Amir lived, those gazes were entirely absent, with the exception of this one.

So before Farhad left, he wanted to understand what made this one so special. And to some extent, he knew. ’A slave.’ Slaves were banned in Cynark, for those were practices from the more uncivilized part of their history.

But what if, there are slaves that exist since those rules were even conceived?

And not like these rules ever mattered to those in power.

The rules were made to keep the powerless in check, it was to ensure they don’t cause too much chaos.

"You... there is not much I can say... but I will say it if you help me kill those 52820184 before you, then I might just tell you why."

"... Then don’t talk." Farhad had felt some familiarity from this gaze, which is why he bothered to interact with it, to begin with, but it’s obvious that talking to this fool is like talking to a wall. Because no way in hell, he is getting a strong answer.

Which he was correct. But before he could think anything further, the voice showed some panic seeing Farhad leave its domain influence and spoke. "Everyone will come for you, you are one of my kind... and we can’t be free for long. If not empires, then it will be gods."

"Are you talking about anomalies?" Farhad paused and looked behind. But no reply came again, even the gaze disappeared. ’Did the constraints kick in?’

’Well whatever... I should focus on leaving this place for now.’

He had long said his goodbyes to his mother and so that she doesn’t throw a tantrum like a child, he even informed his sister of it before he left so she can take care of their mother.

Obviously, he was leaving in name only.

And by the time he felt that no gazes followed him anymore, his body exploded in gore, turning into a bloody mist that speared through the area and in turn erased any signs of Farhad’s existence.

And by the time he rematerialized, he was already in a small cave, filled with figures that showed some surprise seeing Farhad arrive. "We thought you were never coming back." He is back with his new family.
