Chapter 66 - 2.18.1 Calm

Chapter 66: 2.18.1 Calm

With her body up high and her eyes directly on the target, she crashed the scene, much to the surprise of the two brothers as well as their opponent.

"Another annoying insect." Pansar backed off, appearing annoyed by Remira’s entrance. Then his body melded into the shadows, disappearing from Remira’s sight.

"Get ready, he will attack any moment." Aafik warned, while defending his brother who had a hole in his lungs.

The two were ambushed. Originally thinking they were all alone, they were free to act as they deemed and accidently discovered something bizarre on the walls of the sewer. Which in turn prompted their stalker to show themselves and attack them.

Turfa in this case became the victim of the attack, though the original target might have been Aafik, but Turfa came in between his brother and the Pansar, saving his life.

"He is poisoned." Remira said, looking at the veins on Turfa’s face, and no one was more worried about this than Aafik, but he just focused on one thing. "We can’t move with someone like him on the back."

Aafik felt a bit guilty over what happened to his brother. Though the most annoying part of all this was the simple fact that with Turfa gone, he can’t reach the same level of strength like that of a Master, which their enemy was.

No, strength wise, he might be one of the strongest among the master rank individuals. Making the current situation hopeless.

As for the woman that came here, he can see from the burning sword that she was like him, a Radiant Knight. Though from the radiation her body exuded, she was nothing more than an adept, just like him.

So facing a master rank assassin with a burden on his back was impossible.

It was while he was thinking, multiple blades were shot from the dark, each coated in venom. Which Aafik dealt by burning up the blood in his body, creating a fiery shield, which saved him from the attack.

As for Remira?

She was way ahead of Aafik, twisting her sword around and deflecting the three blades that were sent her way, she dashed toward the dark where the attack came from.

Which caused Aafik to be surprised, but more than that, he warned. "Stop, He is a master. You can’t match him alone." Aafik wanted to rush forward but defending his brother took priority to him.

He was not like his captain that would remain hard headed when one of them fell during a fight. No, he still retained some of his humanity and the safety of his only remaining family took precedence.

But at the end of the day, no matter how much he feels conflicted over his choices, eliminating the enemy was the only method to escape from this place.

So the moment Remira attacked the enemy with her sword drawn. Aafik closed his eyes.

He was fighting this enemy for far longer than Remira. He knew his patterns and how he liked to hide in the dark, even while holding complete superiority over his enemies.

He was someone that was thorough and never preferred to take any chances.

Or so Aafik thought, it was why he assumed one thing.

’He won’t kill my brother, Turfa is my weakness.’ So with those thoughts, Aafik stabbed at his back.

"Khew!" And he heard it.

The attack was coming towards him and not Remira.

The shadow Remira pursued was truly just a shadow, a distraction to force Remira back.

It was then that Aafik heard a noise closer to him, which just happened to be next to his brother. "You think you are smart?"

Aafik and Remira turned toward Pansar, surprised and horrified at what they saw.

For in Pansar’s hand was the weakened body of Turfa, lifted in the air by Pansar’s single hand. "Stop!" Aafik said, causing Pansar to hold his hand.

"I understand the pain of loss. But don’t worry, reincarnation exists in this world." Then Pansar proceeded to slash at Turfa’s neck, who was too powerless to even respond or cry. All that remained was his calm eyes as he looked at his brother.

A brother who broke down looking at the life of his only family whose blood sprayed on his face, shaking his resolve.

Then a pained cry broke out of him, a cry that caused him to rush ahead and attack Pansar with all his might.

But Pansar just laughed and turned to the shadows, dropping Turfa from his hand.

Before Turfa could hit the ground, Aafik came in a hurry and caught him. "Don’t go..." He cried, while Turfa tried to lift his hand and touch his brother’s face.

Though he failed again and again, no matter how hard he tried, even opening his eyes was becoming harder for him.

"No!" Remira was a bit slow to react to this attack. It was only now that she understood how dangerous their opponent was. But unlike Aafik, she didn’t lose her calm.

"You coward, fight like a man." She cried out loud. But beside a laugh, she heard nothing. But this gave her enough time to get closer to Aafik, who was still in shock due to his brother’s eventual demise.

"We have to go. Together this time." Remira tried to remain rational in this situation, but her hand was swept away by Aafik. "It’s your fault... entering the enemy’s trap so willy nilly... if not for you, my brother would still be living now." Aafik pointed to Remira while he said this.

An action which surprised her a bit.

She hadn’t cried much after the death of Pierta, because it was what she was taught. Mission took precedence over emotion, and if your companions die during such missions, you honor them by killing the enemies and completing the mission.

This is what she had been taught and believed that others should do the same as well.

But what was she seeing now?

Another adept level Knight like her was showing such a weak side of himself in the field?

Doesn’t he know his unstable emotions are detrimental in this situation? They would hold him back and in turn slow her down.

Countless thoughts ran in Remira’s mind, just like the rats that were running around the sewer.

"?"

It was then that Remira noticed the rats that were not present before. But here, they ran all around the place.

And she noticed a pattern.

"Do you wish to die?" But she had to keep her calm and needed Aafik’s help to fight off the enemy, which seemed to be treating them as light as air.

And Aafik, after the shock of his brother’s death was over, gently put his brother’s body down and got up with the sword in his hand.

An action that Pansar watched was interesting.

In truth, he could have killed the Knights whenever he wanted. He was a master killer, few were able to match his strength and face the onslaught of his attack.

As for the reason why he delayed so much?

It was simple, he was waiting for others to come here, the other knight that had tripped his trap not so long ago.

And considering what the two knights from before had learned, Pansar knew that he needed to silence everyone who might learn of the secret hidden in the sewers.

Meaning that if he had dealt with the first two knights at the earliest, then he might have scared the third one that followed them.

The only problem was, the third knight was someone he can’t harm for now.

Which was the reason why he had remained silent after killing one of theirs.

Not to mention, the rats, they were active again.

He can feel the creepy eyes of mine on his body. He can feel that I was here to see to it that he keeps his word.

Which is the reason why Pansar was conflicted.

But there was one thing Pansar can be sure about.

’Those two are not together... nor the first knight have spoken about the inscriptions on the walls.’

Pansar had originally attacked the two men the moment they found the inscriptions. Giving them no time to think or a chance to form up their opinion. To them, this attack seemed random.

Not to mention, since the first attack, Aafik had been in a shock due to his brother’s state.

Meaning, as long as he kills Aafik, Remira would be too focused on their deaths to ever care about what was around her.

The only problem now remains is to keep the act of fighting the two to the fullest, without giving away that he didn’t intend to harm Remira at all.

’What sort of deal did Adam make with him?’ Pansar thought, while looking at the rats that were maintaining some distance from him.

"??"

Then in the shadows, he smiled.

It was easy to see the play of Jester, even the blind can see what help I was giving to Remira. So Pansar chose to act before the two parties can come together and become an annoyance later.

’Can’t use full strength.’ Pansar thought of rubbing his heart. Before multiple bullets were fired at his body.

"Knew it." He spoke out loud, not much surprised by the pincer attack he was facing after dodging the bullets from before.

But instead of panic, he maintained a calm countenance. While his lips moved. "I appreciate your struggle, without it, I would have felt empty otherwise."

Pansar liked to showboat as well. He never looked down on his enemies, but his enemies always ended up looking down on him due to his habit of giving them the illusion of silence. Giving them time to think of their actions.
