Chapter 634: 9.18.2 Die together.
Riktor Malidi, the Crazy Scholar was pretty famous among the Radiant Knights of the generation before him, so by the time he came of age and began his journey in this tumultuous world, Malidi had disappeared.
It would seem the suppression from the world forces had finally made him drop his head down and live in hiding. Well, that was if he was alive to begin with.
But who would have imagined, when in pursuit of his life’s enemy, Alabasta would find this scholar not too long after following the boy he tracked?
"Your divination is good... I wonder how you noticed my existence?" These were the first words Malidi spoke to him after putting down his notebook.
There was no fear on the old man’s face, nor much surprise. And the scene of him running away in front of a Radiant Knight didn’t happen as Alabasta had heard before, for Malidi appeared as confident as he was. He was in power at that moment.
"You are the Crazy Scholar?"
"Labeling me as such, I am a professor by trade, a seeker by nature but a criminal due to circumstances. Calling me a mere scholar is offensive, so take those words back." Malidi didn’t appreciate the name that was given to him, it felt demeaning to him. Forcing his entire being into two words.
"Than Professor." And with his arrogance at that time, Alabasta had spoken with sarcasm. "I will cut it short... I am not here for you, but that bizarre wraith that carries intelligence. But considering your crimes, I can’t ignore your existence. So come with me, if you don’t wish to suffer any harm." Taking out his flintlock and aiming at Malidi Alabasta threatened.
"So not one for conversation. A mistake on my end." Those were the words Alabsta recalls before the young man that carried the trace of Jester disappeared from his view, along with Malidi.
And no matter where he looked soon after, he couldn’t find them, even through his divination. ’He found a way to counter it.’ That was his first and last meeting with that Scholar.
At that time, he was already a Grandmaster-ranked existence with an exceptional talent for divination. It was generally impossible for anyone to escape his eyes. But Malidi did just that, disappearing from his sight almost instantly along with his captors.
Back to the present, hearing Alabasta’s remark, Malidi spoke with some intrigue. "My face?... Oh, you are correct... it would be bizarre for me to carry this face for so long, I should have aged up a bit." At those words, the face of Malidi turned older, his back hunched a bit while a small cane slid out of Malidi’s sleeves. "I thank thee for the suggestion... I had almost missed out on how it felt like to be ancient."
This scene left everyone speechless. Well, those who saw the essence of it all would think as such.
The weak ones might think it would be an illusion or modification technique, but only those with enhanced senses would see the issue at this point.
This old man, right in front of them directly abandoned a huge amount of his vitality that flowed to the earth, abandoning his lifespan to become older without a moment of doubt. ’He is odd.’ Farhad, back to his old look and feeling a suppression of his ability to mutate looked at the old man with some level of fear at this point.
What is this old man? How did he do it? Why would he do such a thing?
"Professor Malidi, it wasn’t even a request but you gladly decreased your lifespan, I wonder if you can do the same for your entire life?" Alabasta was surprised to see the decisiveness of Malidi, but it wouldn’t change much about his plans.
Now he knew more about Malidi, his true nature as an immortal, and the very fact that this monster was truly unfeeling.
A selfish being without any allegiances. This means that if the Radiant order was a bit more open-minded, they could make use of him, but Malidi was too dangerous for any force. It’s better to end his sorry life right here and right now.
Of course, there was one thing Alabasta wished to do before all of this. "Of course, I jest... I appreciate your support for handling this mutant monster." Alabasta took a smiling expression all of a sudden, the first for Vance to ever witness.
Gone was the arrogance on Alabasta’s face.
While the Priestess of the Cold Corpses, the moment her eyes had fallen on Malidi, she knew it. ’He is the target.’ She didn’t speak much at the moment, just watching silently from the side.
Of course, this didn’t mean that Malidi didn’t notice her existence, giving her a look and smiling, before speaking to Alabasta again. "Didn’t help you... just saved the garden." Then he turned to Farhad and said. "As for you... dare to dig so deep into this land, lucky that you didn’t hit the wall." With those words, Malidi turned and said to the rest. "For now, follow me inside, the library has some interesting things inside." With those words, Malidi gestured the rest to follow him, but Farhad didn’t move nor could Rosso move, his body was still wrecked due to the flames of a Legendary Level Radiant Knight, which made it far harder for him to regenerate.
Of course, this was not much of an issue for Farhad, who could regenerate at a greater rate, where all he needed to do was replace his infected flesh. But Rosso was different, even though he had a level of regeneration, unlike Farhad, he was a living being, hence suffering from some limitations.
This is why Farhad chose to stay back while letting Malidi take the rest into the library.
Of course not everyone left the scene, Vance stayed behind, and his eyes looked at Farhad like prey at this moment. "You can’t change your body... can you?" He asked, giving Farhad a curious look.
"Is it really necessary?" And Farhad understood what was on Vance’s mind at the moment. "We used to work together."
"You say this after coming to Jester’s beckoning? I always knew that you can’t be trusted." With those words, Vance took out a thin blade. "Don’t worry, it will be clean, you can’t run away like last time anyway."
Vance didn’t know what happened with Farhad and how Malidi did this. But from what his Master just spoke to him through the telepathy, Vance understood one point. Farhad at this moment was at his weakest, hence making it the perfect time to end this variable and recover the flames of Samadhi.
This is why he stayed back while his master chose to humor Malidi and went in along with the priestess who remained adamant that she couldn’t find her target.
This made Alabasta go into overdrive, as he feared that she might be hiding something. As for what it was? He can’t say for now.
So to prevent any collateral like his student, he asked him to stay back and deal with Farhad. That’s the best course of action at the moment. "Professor won’t like it if you cause damage to this place."
"Don’t worry, I am aware of it." With those words, he stepped closer to Farhad, who remained by Rosso’s side and probably couldn’t even hear what was happening around him.
Well, he can’t, but there was someone who could. "Isolation....Blood art, Reconstruction... False body creation." Multiple abilities ran through Rosso’s body in an instant causing the blood to drain out of his body and slowly coalesce together on the side to create what appeared to be a small boy, while his original body losing the support of his blood collapsed under the blazing white fire.
Surprising Vance, who dashed toward the duo seeing the blood slowly forming into a new body. But Farhad, noticing such a scene came forward and sacrificed his arm to prevent Vance’s strike. "No regeneration." And Vance, seeing such an odd scene happily stabbed the flaming sword into Farhad’s body.
To him, it didn’t matter who died first. He will do his job no matter what.
"Yo...’ more strike happened soon after, striking and cutting Farhad’s standing body into pieces, causing his burning flesh to spread through the whole area, turning into nutrition for the wonderful flowers.
"And the prize." Leaving only an intact heart at the center of the butchered body. "Ho, it would seem that this part of you still retains your regeneration." Although it was frustrating that cutting and destroying this heart seemed far harder than he thought, It’s not like Vance didn’t have a way.
But for now, he focused on the other one that slowly took the form of a blood body. "It’s easier with you." Stabbing his sword into the blood body of Rosso, he activated his flames of devotion, causing a stark cry to come out of the bloodied mouth of the little monster as its blood started to boil and turn dark. "It’s your end."
