Chapter 631: 9.17.4 Come with me for some tea.
One starts to lose sense of time if they are stuck in the same isolated room for a long time.
How many days has it been? How long have you been stuck here? Is anyone who remembers you even alive? Is there anyone looking for you? So many questions, but there had been no answer.
To the isolated mind, they fail to comprehend the passage of time, they even lose sense of their environment, unable to notice the changes, the deterioration that their cage had gone through.
They even failed to notice that the lock to their cell had long rusted, making it impossible for any key to work on it.
That was the state of the Cat named Catt0. A being so old that even the First Knight holds some respect for it, but it was this age that became the poison for the little cat, who is ignorant of the state of things and did something entirely pointless.
Isn’t it funny? Won’t you laugh about it?
"I was curious why you didn’t come to me... now I know," Malidi spoke, looking at the cat that had disappointed him with its foolishness. While Farhad, looked at the panicked face of the Cat, he didn’t know what to say.
’The ticket is useless?’ With these words alone, he understood that in a way he as well as Rosso were in the same position. It didn’t matter how long he delayed, the end result of this journey would be the same.
’I understand now.’ There is a reason why this was one of the forbidden caves, although the lethality of this place was not high for beings of his rank. The legend still remained that none has ever come out of it. Which suddenly made sense.
Rosso on the other hand suddenly felt a hint of satisfaction. Even with his broken arm that slowly healed, he didn’t feel bad anymore. ’No... selfishness is taking root in me.’ Then he suppressed such thoughts before looking at Malidi and everyone else in the area. It can be seen that the fate of all those who remain here is doomed. Along with the fate of his Master.
As for the Dwarves, after hearing this, although a tad bit disappointed, they didn’t seem that affected, more so Gael, who remained on the side overlooking the whole scene.
An oddity that Farhad and Rosso might have noticed long ago, but due to the devastating news that they just heard, both of them didn’t have the thought of looking at the state of their compatriots.
"Then why call us? Why ask Jester for help?" Farhad was the first one to ask, in the letter, he had learned some details that summarized the situation properly, he recalled how the Malidi would be forced to take a whole year to escape. A year that was enough for Jester to die spiritually and turn into Lord Emotion’s slave.
That can’t happen, and if Malidi made such claims, there ought to be an answer to this predicament. These are answers that even the little Cat Catt0 might not understand.
"Leaving is no option... damage too much this place, unless the lord allows that is," Malidi spoke, turning to look at Arbood and saying. "Wonder of your name Dwarven friend?"
Arbood had remained silent for a bit since the revelation that this place was really a tomb and nothing more, his goals were clear. He needed to learn a way to end that Imoogi, the one that claimed itself to be a Dragon.
Which is why he was here and that is enough.
"Arbood Brud Lynx, the third elder of the Lynx Clan and servant of Dragon of the Storms, Vesta." Introduced Arbood while bowing to the professor. "And I come here to you with some questions." His eyes were clear even in the face of impending doom, for he knew what fate had in store for him since coming here, so even with learning that he really had no way out, Arbood had chosen to accept it all without a hint of disappointment.
If there was something he felt bad about, it would be that he couldn’t do a thing about the monster that was Farhad. That is his only regret.
"Dragon Vesta? I had heard of her name before, I even saw her through her book shop, age had only made her beautiful." Malidi spoke in clear words this time, before looking at Arbood. "So speak Arbood of the Lynx Clan, pray tell, what is your question?"
"No... not here, rest you should take, follow me to the books, the library is a good place to take a nap." Although Malidi spoke such words, not everyone followed him in. Specifically, Farhad gave a look at the surroundings before speaking to Rosso. "Let them go, I need to talk with you for a bit."
Farhad didn’t get the answer he was looking for, but he knew there must be a way out.
"I won’t ask why you attacked her, or what your intentions were before. Because I already know the answer. So let’s focus on the other thing." Rosso’s sudden attack on Remira startled and angered Farhad, and if not for learning that this boy was barely four years old, Farhad might have ended him right here. However, conflicts needed to be avoided, especially in a hostile environment like this.
And besides, with him here, Rosso’won’t be able to pull that move anymore. Which is why he spoke in a cold tone.
"Isn’t it bizarre that he showed more interest in the dwarf than us?" Farhad spoke, looking at the rat that was on Rosso’s shoulder and then at his cat. "We are a curious bunch, for a seeker of knowledge, none would be more interesting than us." Rosso never acquired any personality traits of Jester, all he acquired was knowledge.
But Farhad?
Farhad was far different, he had been gifted with entire memories of Jester, his thought process, and even his habits. Which did take some time for him to suppress. But what Farhad never dared to touch was the insight that he had gained through Jester’s memories.
"He was the teacher of our creator, he must be aware of what we are..." As Rosso spoke such words, he paused.
Farhad, he can understand, for Farhad was made with two opposing forces finding a balance in a body. Forces that had existed for a long time since ancient times. While he is, he is something that came to fruition only recently.
Using the research documents stolen from the dwarves as well as the help of Vegal that further finessed the research, only then did he come into existence.
A perfect being crafted through the greatest soul manipulator which was his Creator, as well as the greatest Mechanist of the current age, Vegal Lugren.
There was no mention of Malidi’s support in his memory and from what Rosso understood, by the time he was born and even before then, Malidi barely showed his face to the world as well as his Master.
What does it mean?
’He is a curious bastard, he never lets go of any new thing he finds.’ Rosso considered himself a perfect new thing. Even if Farhad can be ignored, he can not be ignored so easily.
Not to mention, why didn’t Malidi even ask about the rat on Rosso’s shoulder, and why did the rat didn’t even dare to get close to him?
’I did, he refused.’ Spoke to the rat that cleaned his whiskers. Which made Rosso to notice the oddity even more.
"Even Jester thinks so, isn’t it?" Farhad, hearing Rosso’s words, came to a pause and then looked at Remira. "She fell down the moment we came here, almost as if he expected this to happen. Going with his speech, people will think he is a fool." Farhad can’t say the intentions of this Malidi were good. What he can say is that there must be reasons behind Malidi’s actions.
"He has a way of escaping this place, but he won’t tell us." Then he looked toward the flowers that made Rosso’s eyes bleed dark blood, but with his regeneration, he could entirely ignore it. "For now, ignore the library and stay away from there... Captain Remira came here with some strong people from the smells on her body, it won’t be odd if we get their support."
"Captain Remira... you hold respect for this woman?" Rosso asked. Finding it bizarre how subservient Farhad sounded at the moment.
"No matter the flaws she carries, for me, she has earned my respect. But you won’t be able to understand it now." It felt frustrating talking to someone so ignorant of real life. Rosso might be knowledgeable about subjects, but he barely understood human relations.
"Let’s look for some clues, the library or whatever that small building in the center is called, stay away from there." There was not much in this giant farmland, just multitudes of flowers that made it appear to be a Garden with an open building in between with bookshelves visible to the eyes.
It’s an odd place to say the least.
"I found something," Rosso spoke, his eyes bleeding far more than Farhad, but he did find something odd under his feet.
And well, it was not so odd. "Bodies." Calling it a body would be too much, for the stuff beneath Rosso’s feet were dark bones with roots growing on them. "From the looks of it, a Grandmaster." It is said that the bones of a Grandmaster are eternal, and even perfect material for making weapons. But such weapons do come with a price so rarely anyone dares to try them besides some occult Mages or spiritualists who can afford the price.
"We might find many like him here... well at least those that can make it to this place."
