Chapter 538: 8.12.1 Rosso to rescue.
Even if his soul had ascended to a higher level by sacrificing countless lives, he still wouldn’t abandon his body or forge a new one, which in his prior state he was capable of. A body born from the purest of his blood, capable of greater feats than his old body could ever do. But if he does that, the curse energy that flows in his body would cease to exist. So going back to the old body was important.
And even if it can’t compare to the peak of some Knight bloodlines, it was still a genuine Grand Master capable of creating a greater number of blood summons and handling a stronger level of Curse.
’Ah, this new information, this is what I lacked.’ Once he returned to his old body, Rosso experienced a new flood of changes that started with knowledge that made it easier for him to control the curses as well as a new mutation in his eyes that wasn’t even noted in the notes.
The earlier effects of the eyes of Melancholy had evolved past what it was capable of before. Rosso even felt that unless it was gods, no one could ever locate him in this world, so the prior fear of being followed by others was gone. Though he found some odd things in his eye, only through experimentation could he be sure of their ability.
"I feel I can rival those chosen even without using any curses to back me up." With his eye of insight, he looked around the city, which was turning silent as time went by. The shockwaves above the sky increased in intensity, causing the very buildings to crumble bit by bit.
It was a total disaster, a complete extinction-level event for this very district.
The bodies of Mortals are weak, they can’t handle such power and their body will crumble without any protection. While the Knights were already dealing with problems on their end.
The undead he created with a mixture of curses and his blood was posing a threat to the low-ranking ones, while the higher-ranked ones were already busy with their own battles or one should say survival of their families.
Of course, with things escalating this much, it won’t be long before support from the center arrives here.
"He won’t die. I know this for sure." With his eyes, even though the battle was far into the sky, Rosso could see the situation clearly. In a way, he knew both of these individuals and from what he understood, both were someone he could be friends with and even they could be friends with each other.
But circumstances made them enemies.
"Move." But so what, his goal was close to completion.
He had reached a level where there was no need for him to hide. There is no need to make any convoluted plans, he is strong with the sacrifices of this district, including those that died unceremoniously without his hand. In a way he had long infected with the mortal populace of this city, and each of their death and pains led to this growth.
Even now, he was growing stronger with time though the rate of his growth was much more stable and slow.
"Move." So he made a move, not flying toward the monsters in the sky, instead his direction was chosen long ago.
His eye of insight in its boosted form made him aware of all kinds of random energies flying through the air. Even if he had direct sight over them, he could still detect the movement of the strong ones from a distance, and by assessing their movements, you can create a story out of them.
Among many of these stories where majority were just trying to survive, eradicate, and save others. There was one where a group of Knights pursued someone else, someone Rosso found somewhat familiar even through the aura alone.
A memory from the past, something that had been deeply ingrained in him since birth, making it far easier for him to know who was a friend or foe. "The current leader of Team B, Sheva... she was my contact?" he flew through the air in her direction. Though his first flight with a body was much harder than he assumed.
His control over blood energy was weak, causing Rosso to crash a bit on the buildings, accelerating their collapse. However in the next second, his speed accelerated, and he eventually arrived at the location of a one-sided battle, where a bloodied figure tried to escape from her pursuers.
Of course, Rosso’s arrival did attract some eyes, though all remained guarded against him, including Sheva, who currently had bones sticking out of her body. It was only the strong vitality of a Grand Master that kept her alive. But any more than this, she might just fall.
Though the state of the Knights was not any better, to fight against an escaping Chosen, they were forced to break past their limits and lie till their body started to break down. With the most heinous injury being faced by the Knight who seemed to be leading the charge.
His face is currently blue, and his eyes cloudy signifying a level of blindness. The reason? Rosso didn’t know nor did he care at this point. After assessing the situation with a single look and before the Knights of Deception could ask who he was, Rosso moved through the air while his arm turned into a blood sickle, instantly harvesting the life of the closest Grand Knight in an instance, without even giving a chance for his enemies t respond.
Of course, that was the breaking point on both sides, the balance shifted in an instant. There was no exchange of words, no confirmation on whose side one was on, action spoke louder than words, and Rosso protected Sheva as he fought against the enemies without even accessing his skills.
And the Knights were none the wiser, with a face they had never seen before, and abilities that were much different than the time Rosso was making his escape. They never put the two together thinking that he was Sheva’s support and not the perpetrator of the greater attack on the city.
Not like the Knights cared about the attack on the city at all anymore, as the Legendaries were already fighting in the sky, and most were completely confused over what this was all about.
But why did it matter anymore, they can’t do a thing against the Legendary being, so they focused on personal vendetta at this moment. Killing the woman who killed their grand priestess.
"Don’t back down." Bright leaf was weaker than before, his blood was turning stagnant much to his surprise. He even wondered just what kind of poison he had been infected with and whether anyone else in his place would focus on dealing with the poison, but his eyes with red with vengeance, forgoing his own health, he rushed toward the enemies with a zealot fury.
His lies took physical form in his arms, spraying his blood into the air, he used it as the catalyst to take his lies to a new level. Affecting the very nature around him, as blades and figures emerged from the thin air, while Bright Leaf himself got weaker and weaker in combat.
A feat that was absurd in the eyes of the rest of the Knights. Their bloodline only lets them lie to themselves, they are not like Mystics or priests from the Church who can affect reality. But their captain just did the impossible in front of their eyes. But none of them were happy about it.
Forcing Bright Leaf to this extent could only mean one thing. He was reaching his limits.
On the other hand, Sheva backed off using the remaining chains, fighting against the projection and supporting the man who shielded her from harm.
A man whose identity was easy to see from her perspective considering the context she had, which also brought her surprise as she never expected Rosso to grow so strong in such a short time. ’Just what has he created this time.’ Sheva can see the Karma above Rosso, Dark like the night sky.
Such Evil, even her blood wished to end Rosso at this very instant. If not for her keeping some distance, her Chains would break away from her and try to end Rosso right here. ’Such evil.’ Was her thoughts for a while, until the battle came to a pause, and she saw Rosso’s face.
"..."
"That boy?" A face appeared on her face, followed by further horror on her face. "No... what did he turn that boy into?" She felt pity for the boy who lost his youth to something he never understood.
Pity for not questioning when this boy was taken in by the higher-ups.
And now that very boy that turned into evil incarnate, a monster made for battle and death.
"Kill." She said, as her eyes glowed in golden light. It was the desire to eradicate the evil at all costs before it grew any bigger.
"I need to back off." And then there was rationality. The boy was helping her survive this battle, and without him, the losses she would have to take against the enemies would be greater.
It was at times like this that she missed her Sniper, but in battles of such scale, guns are worthless. And those that work require expensive ammunition that is harder to hide.
The most she carried to this battle was that single-shot assassination pistol capable of firing one time.
Though, while she was having such thoughts, one of her chains extended, and before anyone knew it, it stabbed Rosso in the head.
"Huh?"
