Chapter 539: 8.12.2 An old friend.

What happens when you get stabbed in the head?

Is death instant? Well yes, for most mortal humanity that seems to be the case. And in the grand scheme of things, those are considered the luckier than the ones that do survive such injuries.

What one becomes after such a blow to the head is unpredictable and in most cases one loses many functions of their body, turning into a living corpse.

But such is the case for the Mortals and not much changes for those that transcended mortality as well.

Throughout history, no matter how strong you get, unless you hold a specific bloodline, the head will remain the most vulnerable. As with its destruction, even if one can regenerate, they will be rendered useless for a little bit. Unable to make any proper moves.

Such was the case for Rosso, whose world went dark the moment his skull burst like a melon, causing his body to fall to the ground. The Knights of Deception who were somewhat surprised made their own move didn’t stop their moves at all, they aimed to destroy what remained of the body before it could regenerate even if they weren’t sure if their enemy was capable of such a feat or not.

On the other hand, Sheva whose chains had acted on their own flailed around for a bit before trying to drag her body toward Rosso as well. They intended to finish the demon on their own and for the first time in a while, she had no control whatsoever, leaving her open to the attacks of the Knights who finally got an opportunity they were looking for.

"It’s your time." One of the Knights spoke, as she drew her sword and stabbed toward Sheva. ’No...’ She recalls the curse that her blood carried. The Bone of Judgement, a deity among the pantheon of Red Sun.

If Red Sun was the lord of Death that overlooked the cycle of Samsara, then Bone of Judgement was the adjudicator that judged the dead, imparting on them the punishment for their death that they never received in their life. The Karma needs to be paid one way or another, whether in life or in death.

Depending on the negative Karma one carries, the ferocity of the Bone of Judgement would be stronger and uncontrollable. There is a reason why Sheva remains the only awakened of her bloodline. Why Jester had warned her about the danger of the blood she carries and the kind of problems she will have to face in the future.

"It’s one of the rare bloodlines that kills its user, so beware Sheva." A warning she had taken to heart and due to understanding how her blood worked, she had remained at a distance from actual evil as much as she could.

But no matter how you try to suppress yourself, unexpected situations can lead to bizarre results. Just like now where Rosso, a boy who came to her rescue had been killed by her.

"No." She cried, holding the Chains with her arms while ignoring the Sword that was aimed at her head.

This time, it was really impossible for her to survive.

Or so she thought.

The Sword that was aimed at her suddenly turned around in the hands of the Female Knight, and then she stabbed herself with it. "What?" She asked in horror as similar scenes started to take place all around her.

The attack of Knights that aimed at Sheva, as well as Rosso, suddenly halted, before the Knights started to attack themselves weirdly while retaining their whole sanity. "What is going on?" Some who were able to fight off the effects of such a bizarre attack looked around, confused over who was doing such a thing.

But nothing came to mind, as their priority became to protect their companions from harm. But unlike the Ignorant Knights including Bright Leaf who was too weak to act at this point. Sheva with her Karmic sight can see small threads drawn out of Rosso’s body, affecting all the Knights that tried to harm him. It would seem a bundle of such threads was thrown her way as well, but her chains that had gone out of control before were currently cutting these threads apart at a faster rate than these threads could regenerate. ’What is this?’ She wondered for only a little bit as one of the threads did end up touching her Chains, causing her mind to go blank for a bit until the other chains cut the thread apart.

"What is this?" She asked in horror as backing off from the trouble.

Although she can’t say for certain, for the little moment that the threat connected to her chains, she lost all track of Rosso, including all memories of his existence. From past to present. ’I need to move.’ She said, backing from the scene as Sheva sensed that something wrong was going on here.

’Jester... he created a monster, a true monster this time.’ She recalled Crow, another creation of Jester, but he was just a shape-shifter and nothing more. Crow’s strength was not absurd and with the exception of his adaptability, Crow truly never stood out among her associates.

But this Rosso, he was far different than she can imagine. Even those bizarre members of Team One can’t compare.

’He became dangerous after losing his head?’ She had such thoughts while backing off, unable to fathom what else was hiding in him.

Her steps came to a pause as she sensed something strong rushing towards her from a distance. A Figure she was very familiar with. ’Another monster.’ She knew that this woman was in the city, and she didn’t wish to meet this woman in a million years.

Though she had no other way left.

"You, you are Sheva, aren’t you?" And the figure was none other than the Radiant Knight Sheva who arrived here after sensing the battle from before along with a potent smell of blood that was currently spreading through the district.

In the battle in the sky among the Legendaries, she can’t do a thing against them, so she focused on protecting those she could, and with some of the Radiant Knights as well as Radiant eyes that were acting in the city, she did end up saving a bunch of people from the collapsed building and those weird monsters. But that was her limit.

Only a fraction of people were awake at the moment and most still focused on protecting themselves and their ilk, ignoring the plight of mortals.

It’s true as they say, when the gods fight, the mortals suffer. Ignoring the fight in the sky, there was another fight between gods that was happening much closer to the street level, with moves capable of leveling a city block if not aimed properly.

So she came here, intending to put a stop to this foolishness, but the closer she got, the smells in the air changed her mind bit by bit. And who would have thought that among that potent smell would be the smell of someone she had met before? Someone she wished to give a kinder life to.

Someone who ended up betraying her trust and joining the enemies.

"I didn’t expect to meet like this... but for the old time’s sake, I suggest you don’t approach them," Sheva warned pointing in the direction of the Knights who were around a kilometer away from her, but with their strength, it won’t be long for them to cover such a distance.

Well, that is, if they had the luxury to attack Sheva, as most were still dealing with the issues caused by Rosso’s body.

"You are speaking of that potent curse?" Being a Radiant Knight, it wasn’t hard for her to know what the issue was at a single glance, though her eyebrows creased for a bit, unable to pinpoint the problem. Though there were some things better left to herself. And besides, considering that Sheva was here, Remira put two and two together before asking. "Is this your work? This cursed disease?" She asked.

Jester that bastard in her eyes was the peak of evil, he would stoop to any level to attain his goal no matter the sacrifices. And even though she had come to fully understand why Jester turned the way he did, part of the responsibility did fall on the Radiant Knights. But none of it excuses the evil he had brought to this world.

The innocents that died and the lies were lost in all this ignorance.

He was not just the enemy of Cynark in Remira’s eyes, but an enemy of Humanity. Well, nothing more to expect from something that had long ceased to be human.

"I just killed the cause of this curse, who knew that was a bigger mistake," Sheva complained for a bit though there was no lie in her lips. "I won’t stop you if you want to go there, I hold no grudge against what happened before. I just want to survive." Sheva sighed before moving out of Remira’s way.

There was no grudge between the two, and if circumstances did not force them to, there was no need for conflict.

If the situation had been different, Remira might have wanted to ask why and how Sheva became strong so fast.

What was Jester planning in Rudrain?

Why was the cult of jesters attacking and harassing the citizens?

What part did Sheva play in all of this?

There were many questions, but the priority went to dealing with the monster that caused this disaster, so Remira let Sheva go, even if she wanted to ask a few questions about the matter.

Time was of the essence, and she couldn’t let her obsession cloud her judgment.
