Chapter 48: 2.12.3 The blast

Let’s go back to a few days ago, when the fact of Jester’s disappearance was still in question and those in the know were much more paranoid than before.

With a book in hand and her eyes filled with light, Remira roamed the dirty streets of Durum, which was filled with refugees, beggars as well as miscreants.

She knew her target clearly.

Blue Lotus, a terrorist organization with a simple goal of acquiring spiritual immortality.

It took her a day to learn about their modus operandi, as well as their origin which was hidden in the veil or not easily accessible to someone of her level.

But their origin mattered not, with the reports she can find. It didn’t take long before she learned the kind of methods that have been employed by this organization before.

Among which was something that caused Remira to recall certain things.

"That boy."

Among all the reports, it has been noted that the favorite method the Blue Lotus uses to assassinate someone is to forcefully create a false curse user, who are closer to a vessel of strong curses, ready to explode on their target and eliminate them.

And as it’s harder to detect these beings, it’s next to impossible for someone to find their location before they release all the curse in their body.

Though, that is the case for normal people, but of course user, it was different.

These people due to feeling weak and powerless had chosen to give themselves away to curses. Enhancing their curse curses by feeding them weaker curse, increasing their curse power and gaining supernatural abilities by giving up part of their body to the curse, as the price of their usage.

This is where the Radiant Society comes in, their creator was one of the strongest curse users in the whole world.

Through his understanding of said curses, he created a perfect bloodline mimicking the knights of the church as well as totem warriors, which directly countered the curses.

Some even say that the bloodline of Radiant Society is that of a greater curse, given a physical form, which ended up ingrained into the blood of its members.

And this blood gave the members of Radiant Society, a very specific set of skills that were handcrafted by the original creator of this bloodline and later perfected by those that came later.

Hence making it possible for the nose of a Radiant Knight to smell, harder to detect curses easily.

Which Remira had previously done.

Not too long ago, she had met a young boy ridden with a powerful curse, coincidently. Though, it would be more apt to say that she tried to follow this boy to a certain distance before losing him altogether.

An incident which she was forced off of Remira’s mind due to Maxim’s order and the other things that took priority.

But now, she had returned full circle, looking for that same boy in the city. Looking for clues of any other high concentration of a curse power.

Though for the last few days, she had no success at the end.

Which finally forced her into the last location where she picked the smell of that boy before.

"Vaisal’s Enchanted Potion’s shop."

Causing the scene at present.

Even before the beggar entered the potion shop, Remira’s sharp senses detected his approach.

The strong smell of sewer as well as the weak breath she had felt from the other side of the door also made her understand one thing.

"Please, you can go ahead. I will wait on the side."

The young man was ill, just like many others she had noticed in the city recently.

And Kairut was not so surprised by Remira’s nonchalance. If it was before, the dog-like smell of a Radiant knight would have found out his identity easily.

But the black tar like substance that had covered his body completely suppressed his supernatural achievements, making him appear human. Albeit with some flaws.

No spell was truly perfect in the world of mortals and so did Kairut’s. If it was someone on the level of Maisel, they would have easily found out the true identity without much struggle.

Or someone like Adam, who maintained his stuttering nature as before. But on the inside, he was curious over the identity of this beggar who can use such a high level spell to hide from the masses and completely suppress his supernatural radiation.

But he didn’t question it, nor did he chose to expose this stranger’s identity to Remira. Maintaining ignorance was the right choice, for he was someone way weaker than Remira on surface.

An apprentice level Potion master.

"Th... THank you miss.."

Kairut spoke, as he fell on his knees and asked Adam. "Sir, can you provide us with some medicine? All my friends are ill. They are young and unabl..." A natural story flowed out of Kairut’s lips as if it was truth and Remira even with her strong senses was unable to find anything odd with him.

No, to her, this young man was very ordinary.

On the other side, Adam. Knowing the true strength of the man, didn’t fall for his act. But due to Remira, he still had to keep up the act. "Young man, this is not a dispensary that you can enter so easily." there was an aura of authority in Adam’s voice, which was absent when he usually talked to others.

Which was surprising for Remira to see. Which surprised her a bit.

Though, Adam’s later words caused her even more surprise.

"But how did you enter this shop, anyways? This has a strong enchantment on it, which prevents the common people from entering it.’ Adam needed to speak these words, he might not know who this stranger was, but he has to act natural when in front of Remira. Which meant exposing a certain point that both Remira and Kairut might not have noticed.

To mst magicians, this diversion enchantment was common to be seen. It was put almost everywhere in their shops to their houses which prevented the common people from discovering their whereabouts or entering the vicinity of their belongings. Which might result in various accidents.

Hence Remira never noticed this point, nor did Kairut. Who, even though experienced and intelligent in his own right. Had forgotten about this simple enchantment and treated it similar to air.

But this very enchantment should have also prevented someone of his identity to never even notice this shop.

So how did he do it?

And how did he find out about this shop?

Questions started to come in Remira’s mind.

Who stepped forward and asked. "Show me your hand."

At this point, Kairut knew that he messed up.

*****

Maisel was frustrated.

When he had finally reached the area of activity of these insect clones, nothing else cropped up again.

There was complete silence at the exit points as well as the Lucien academy.

’But I am sure he left.’

Proof was needed and these insect bodies were not enough. They just proved that the old principal was taking some safety precautions after what has happened these few days. Which was the right action to take, considering that Maisel had shot at those very clones.

But what if one among these were the body of Kairut?

What would Maisel do and how would he prove his intentions?

No, he won’t. He had no excuse at that point and it would all be relegated to paranoia on his part.

"Keep watch on all the points and send someone to request an audience with the Principal."

As his men were on standby from the start, it didn’t take long before he got a reply.

"Sir, they say the Principal is resting and won’t meet with anyone during this time."

At those words, Maisel smiled. He got an excuse for this action.

If Kairut Lucien was really in the academy, then it would mean that these clones don’t belong to him. Meaning, Maisel just didn’t give an order to shoot the Principal of Lucien’s Abode but some other suspicious individual.

Though the problem still remains, if Kairut was not here, then where was he?"

While he was contemplating such questions, a message came to him.

"Sir, on point two. A blast just occurred."

Point two was none other than Gregory street.

Was this a coincidence?

No, there was no way this could be a coincidence. And even if it wasn’t, with no direct clue in his hand, Maisel knew that only one option was left for him.

"Hah!"

So he moved in his car, once again.

Moving in the direction of Gregory street as well as Vaisal’s Enchanted shop, whose front was blasted off at the moment and a confused Remira stood dazed.

While Adam was panicking and stunned while handling the ruined potions that were flowing on the floor producing toxic fumes.

"This stupid guy..." Remira said, while dragging Adam out of the toxic fumes of the potions before looking at the disaster her curiosity caused.

"He hid well."

She thought, looking around the street that was slowly filled up with onlookers as well as some supernatural beings who were eyeing the potion shops, intending to loot some undamaged potions.

But before they could, Maisel’s jeep came to the venue and he ordered. "Nobody moves."
