Chapter 46: 2.12.1 Time to shine.
What is a soul?
The core essence of what made us human?
The spiritual aspect of a living being?
Or just the next step of growth a person experiences after one dies?
Just like a child grows from a fetus to a baby to a child, then after death, it becomes a spirit, not of this world.
But to Blue Lotus, their understanding of Soul was different.
"If a soul is a blank book, then the memories and experiences are the ink that are stamped up on it, becoming a true spirit."
It was the belief they held, treating the spirit, an amalgamation of soul and memories as nothing more than a book.
A book that gets reprinted each time it goes into reincarnation cycle, losing all its ink and what it made a person. Before taking in new ink to become someone entirely else.
And to most of the world, the lost ink can never come back. Once one goes through a "reprint", the lost text on that book can never be recovered.
Turning it into a death, but not a true one. For a soul is ever immortal.
But Blue Lotus denied that death, they wish to be immortal and their personality permanently stamped on that book that is their soul.
So that no incarnation would ever be able to remove that ink and hence killing them. But finding that kind of ink is next to impossible.
One method of making your "ink" permanent is becoming a Demigod or a Daemon. Making it possible for your soul to turn eternal and a true reincarnation possible, with one’s personality and memory intact.
This is what many great beings did in the past. And the god they worship achieves such a level as well. And brought them a gift of knowledge that made it possible for few chosen among them to recover their past lives, as well as made it possible to carry this aspect of them to the future.
Sadly, a few hundred years ago, the vessel of their god was destroyed by certain assailants. Causing that god to be lost in the world of spirits, unable to come back to the material plane.
Though, that won’t remain true for long.
"I wonder how much knowledge would the god have accumulated throughout the years?" Adam was curious.
He was born incomplete, most of the ink in his book had been purged during his birth and he barely retained who he was in the past. But he knew one thing, he was part of Blue Lotus and to gain more strength as well as permanence in his soul, he had to find others like him.
As for becoming a demigod himself?
Adam was not so blind or arrogant to think he would ever be able to reach such a level. The path to that level had long been closed off from the world. Even the major religions in the world barely received any revelations from their god. Making one wonder what had happened.
Or whether the golden age of gods when they walked on earth was actually true.
But Adam cared not.
No, to him. Nothing was more important than turning immortal.
Not the kind of immortality that the king of rats possesses. A being with a damaged soul and a muddled brain who is barely capable of rationality.
And if not for its ability to collect information and control the rats, they wouldn’t have ever bothered with contacting him.
"Soros, you have to hide for now. Forget about your primary objective, as things have changed a bit. Killing Maisel would come at a later date."
Ordering the young man who barely showed any emotion, Adam walked into another room, where a man with a branded face was silently making some potions in a meticulous manner.
This was none other than Vaisal Bloodthorn, the original owner of Vaisal’s Enchanted Potions shop which now acted as the base for Blue Lotus.
As for the original owner, he was not as eccentric as many had believed him to be.
But in truth, he had turned into a slave for the Blue Lotus.

Kairut sat in his room with a paper on his hand where a certain sign was scribbled.
"Is it dangerous?"
A sign that was scribbled by none other than the rat that he kept in a cage. It was also only used when his master was going through some heavy ordeal, making it impossible for him to visit him personally.
"Of course I know this, Master." The paper disintegrated in the air as Kairut just smiled.
Kairut was no fool, he had known that by giving away so many clues to the puppets of his master, his own identity as well as standing would be at stake.
He even understood that even in the best case scenario, it would become impossible for him to ever come back to his position as the Principal of Lucien’ Abode. No, he would be no more than a criminal after it.
And as it was with criminal mages, no country would leave a person holding so much power roam scott free.
Meaning, he was well aware of the consequences when he chose to work with his Master and the sacrifices he had to make.
Which was why, according to him. His message from his master was completely useless. Being so old, he was well aware of the situation going around more than anyone.
Age begets experience and for someone as old as Kairut, he understood what he needed to do in the current situation, more than anyone else.
"WIth this message from the Master, he is surely not awake anymore." He had been feeling that the air of the city had gotten a lot lighter than before, though this lightness was also relative. As someone greater from the sewers was rising with each passing day.
But this along with the mode of message transmission meant one thing. The Jester was not blanketing the city anymore.
Which meant, this was the perfect opportunity to make some moves which his master might not agree with.
The old Archmage, Kairut Lucien tapped his staff on his feet, releasing a black ooze from the end of his staff that slowly crawled over Kairut’s body, like living oil. While his body started to contort and straighten up wherever the black oil passed by.
First it was his weakened knees, then his spine, causing him to stand up straight.
And at the end his face as well as his hair, which had regained the vitality of its youth.
"Soon, this body won’t be a lie anymore." Kairut, now in his younger body, spoke with a bright smile.
Then he walked to the side of his room and entered a hidden chamber with a teleportation gate.
It was finally time to play his cards.
******
It’s been a week since learning of the true mastermind behind his son’s death and the fact that an old enemy from the past was also hiding somewhere in this city.
But that will come later, currently. In his mind, there was nothing more than revenge.
He had finally found out the hand that led his son to his death. The man who was meant to teach his son, had become his killer.
But sadly, he had no proof of that and he also feared that with his power, Kairut could easily go into hiding if he learned of the fact that Maisel knew about his crime.
So he worked solo, hiding from the eyes and keeping an eye on the academy on his own.
Though sadly, in this last week, Kairut had denied any visitors with the excuse of ongoing investigation. While also refusing to leave his academy with the excuse of protecting his students.
None of the reasons or plan worked and Maisel also didn’t want to force others to make any suspicious moves under his request, incase of scaring the snake.
But it didn’t mean there was no progress.
He currently stayed on the outskirts of Durum, the place under which was the true Lucien’s Abode hidden.
This was to keep a direct eye on movements of Kairut.
As for the escape routes of Kairut, meaning the other exits. With the blueprints he had found and through some information collection done by the agencies that had existed in this city for a long time. There were various other hidden exit points spread throughout the city.
Though whether it belonged to Lucien Abode cannot be confirmed, it still gave Maisel enough idea and hence he put some of his dogs from the military to eye these suspicious points.
And then, the day finally came.
"Marshall, suspicious movements from seven of the points. Orders to engage?"
"Seven?"
Maisel was surprised, but not by much.
"No, just follow each of them from a distance of two hundred meters. The target is dangerous."
"Copy that!"
After giving his order, Maisel activated the Samadhi flames that were a direct enemy of the occult and the dark, making him feel a slight change in atmosphere from the underground.
So minute that most would not even be able to detect it. But Maisel could. And he understood that a powerful Black mage had left the academy.
