Chapter 45: 2.11.3 The Sewer Massacre.

Insufficiency of information causes many to make small mistakes.

A man driven by revenge would also never make any sound actions. They will give priority to their desires more than reason. Hence turning nuisance and an unpredictable element wherever they go.

And this is the state Maisel was in, he was no more than a liability, but useful nonetheless.

The priority of Maxim has never changed since arriving in this city, he still prioritized the safety of the citizens of this country. and from the last experience he had in that dream world, he understood one fact.

"The Puppeteer is not against us."

He had helped him in some sense, showing him the real mastermind behind whatever was going on in this place.

Or at least, their goals intersected in one part at least. Both of them wanted to stop the Blue Lotus or the resurrection of a demi god figure.

Making him an unlikely ally.

But as it happens, knowing the unpredictability of this Puppeteer, working with him would be a stupid choice to make.

One should not forget that this being is someone who knows how to hold a grudge. And if Maxim doesn’t want to face a sad end, he needs to be ready.

Which is where Maisel comes in.

"He will work against the puppeteer, while we work with him. Or at least, we use each other, until Maisel ends him.’

The flames of a samadhi were pure enough to burn away every kind of spirit in this world, including a godly one.

Meaning, a mutated spirit like that of the Puppeteer would be nothing more than paper in front of it.

With Maisel gone from the room, Remira questioned Maxim’s reason for this misdirection as well as focusing on something else other than this puppeteer. "Sir, from the story you have told till now, I can see the threat of this spirit. But why not go after him yourself?"

"Isn’t ending him the same as ending the danger itself?"

"Remira, the truth is. The last time I was exploring the grand dream in that has spread through this city, I was able to glean something dangerous."

With those words, Maxim pointed at his bandaged arm which remained unmoved. "I can’t say much, for it’s forbidden. But something is going to descend in this city soon. And for some reason, that Puppeteer seems to be helping me, by giving me clues."

"... So the thing that harmed Pierta, actually ended up helping you?"

"Yes."

"And you don’t see anything wrong with that?... Even a child can tell, he intends to use you as its knife."

"And I will gladly become its knife, if it means I can stop the descent of a demigod."

"??"

At those words, Remira stood silent.

Being top of her batch, she knows better than anyone what a demigod meant here. And what would happen to a city when something this dangerous steps in it.

"And don’t worry about the help. With the enemies we are going to face soon. We are not enough."

"An exorcist like me can never match the might of a terrorist like Blue Lotus. It was why I had already sent a request for backup."

"Others from the headquarters are coming here?"

The truth was that only two people from Radiant society were allowed in the City of Durum. Any more than that and it might turn problematic.

"Did they give out a new license??"

"There is no need for that." Maxim said, while turning toward Remira. "They are not going to work with it, or make any contact in a bid to not cause any suspicion."

"So treat them as if they were not coming to begin with."

"But it doesn’t change our goal much. Annihilating the Blue Lotus is our priority."

******

How long has it been?

I don’t remember.

My memories are blurry and damaged. A body which was made out of pure energy was shivering as if suffering from a cold.

It was an odd sensation, a stimulus that I have long forgotten.

"Sorry to show you my sorry state, Oh Dear Gods! But it does burn."

My existence was that of a spirit, a mutated one which swimmed among the minds of mortals. Their dream and aspiration were my sustenance. Their minds, the puzzle that I loved to unravel.

But at this moment, even after recovering in the world of dreams for a long time, the weakness didn’t go away.

Which didn’t make much sense, it really didn’t.

Even though I might have forgotten what I did, I never make a move without determining the gains and losses. And in none of my moves, would I face a heavy damage like I was currently going through.

Then I found the reason. "My proxies... they are disappearing." A smile crept up on my face.

"An unexpected move, did he find out my true plan?"

The mark of contract was suppressing my soul from recovering properly, while the death of my proxies resulted in me losing access to the real world.

Though the man named Adam doesn’t seem to be doing much after it. He just used the contract or constricted my soul from making any more rash moves. Binding my hands and making it impossible for me to move again.

But he doesn’t dare to use the full might of the contract on me so early.

He still needed me and I needed him.

Though, he was not the only one I needed.

Even if I had forgotten a few of my memories, I still understood one fact. If things had gone as I expected them to, then the fools from the Radiant Society would already be on the move.

Which might result in some entertaining scenes for you Dear gods, so enjoy while I still remain in this world.

Though, I know you might worry for me. It was why I ordered the remaining of my proxies to go into hiding.

While sending a message to my servant that had fulfilled his role, till now, spectacularly.

"Survive." was the message I sent to him. Though I personally didn’t leave this dreamscape of that young girl.

Even if I can’t recover my body, her thoughts and ideas were still enough for me to stabilize the state of my soul.

"So go on and leave me alone for now. It might not be entertaining to follow those people without my narration. But staying here won’t do much."

With those words, I bid you farewell, temporarily."

Adam still acted like normal on the surface, with his arm bandaged and unmoving. He worked in the potion shop as usual. Providing potions to the mages or adventurers that come by, while stuttering with the story over how he got his injuries, whenever someone asked him.

But that was all an act. His mind was still somewhere else, trying to remember the visage of the very being he was trying to revive.

Though, every time he tried to remember her face or even her name, he would find himself forgetting it soon after.

Even the face had turned blurry, along with most of her body.

A kind of experience that made him worship the power of this being a lot more.

But it didn’t mean he was completely mesmerized by watching the gate, for there was someone else who did the same. Someone very dangerous, who had also seen the image of that demigod.

Walking to the basement, he came to the room with a giant cylinder filled with blood. Though it was not as filled as before, instead, there was barely any left in it.

"Is the medicine ready?"

"Yes master."

"Good, spread the disease, start with Gregory street, then the refugee camps."

"As you order."

In the world, nothing is more honorless and inhumane than using pathogens as a weapon. But here, it was just a tool to achieve their goal. To them, the end justifies the means.

The Blue Lotus doesn’t care about the countless lives that might be lost due to their actions, because there was reincarnation in this world.

The lives lost would be recompensed by the world itself. So why should they even bother or even be considerate?

It was the belief they had carried till now and have given up too many things to achieve their goal.

Which makes it harder for them to stop, after coming so close.

"Soros, you are back from your job?"

On the side, a bad smelling young boy came back, covered in sewage as well as the blood of countless rats.

"They disappeared after a while."

"Hmm..."

"Did you find any signs of damage on the ’Art’?"

"Sorry master, but I lack the knowledge of what those terms mean, but I didn’t see anything out of place or new..."

"Good for them. The dirty spirit is smart enough to know when to stop. And with this much damage over to his puppets,, he might not show his face for a while."

"Go and get freshed, your job is not finished yet."
