Chapter 416: 7.07.4 Disappointed mother.
If I have to make a list of things I want to do after obtaining the body, fighting on the frontline would be one of them.
Which might have sounded offensive to my fellow compatriots who were genuinely fighting in the war with their lives on the line. But I really wanted to see what these mortals have suffered from. I wanted to experience the fear and hopelessness one feels on a battlefield.
’Like a war epic.’ There were many stories about soldiers who had made exemplary achievements during the war. Which would often be used by the government and turned into a tale of honor and sacrifice in the mouth of the propaganda department, which would use the greatness of such soldiers to recruit even more when the time eventually came.
As for the true ugliness of war and the desperation and disgust one had to make during the war?
All these stories would ignore such things, giving the audience a desensitized version of the events. But for me, I am used to the real stuff. And this time, I will be part of it as well.
"Now run... !" The order came from the front and I broke into a jog. There is no need to stand out, nor is there a need for me to show in front of these mortals. I want to be a mediocre soldier with simple planning skills, who might obtain specific kinds of missions that I am interested in.
There was no need to exceed anyone’s expectations so early. That can be done later through managing whatever platoon I will be part of in the future.
Though, through this whole act. The issue of wasting time still cropped up for me. It’s easier to see that all these simple exercises would impede my growth in the coming months as I can’t afford to practice any Knight skills in such a congested environment.
But no worries. The growth in the recent months had already exceeded his expectations and with the recent change in his body brought by his birth as a totem still needs some time to stabilize. Making it more proper for him to wait it out.

The departure of Jester was a shock to many in Yethel. Specifically Vegal who celebrated the disappearance of the gaze that always kept him under his oppression. Some members from Team Two, specifically Kahna who had been supporting Sheva suddenly appeared worried.
As this was the first time the protective eye he had felt over the capital had gone away. Making him a bit paranoid, and worried about his as well as his country’s future. But Sheva just shut him down. Not letting him leak the matters as she consoled him in simpler words. "Something more important has cropped up, he won’t be here for a while. But work still needs to be done."
With war around the corner, Team Two who were responsible for espionage in other countries were in an overdrive. Always busy with work and a new amount of information that still needed to be confirmed before being sent to the central intelligence.
Causing the pressure on Sheva to increase since he held a position as the new leader. As for Crow?
He had long abandoned his position as a successor, touting how he was incapable of actually leading people and instead preferred to follow the orders without holding any responsibility. Causing Sheva’ to win by default as there was no competition left for her to fight with.
"Just what is it that would cause Master to abandon the capital? Don’t you think something serious might be going on?" It’s rare for Kahna to feel such fear. He never noticed how much dependent he had become on Jester, who always kept an eye on everyone using his rats to prevent any mishap.
Now he wonders if anyone would notice any mistake he makes. If people would be hurt due to his mistake.
Then Kahna recalled the temporary leader of Team Two, Baldar, and how he had disappeared into the ruins due to a simple mistake. A ruin where his Master couldn’t act or support Baldar, which probably resulted in his death.
’Fear... I am fearful.’ Sheva never understood the mentality of some of the orphans and men that Jester had recruited through his days in this world. All the people under him either had some mental problem or held some quirky personality.
With Kahna coming in the latter. Causing the hidden paranoia in him to suddenly burst into Sheva’s face. This made Sheva know that Kahna, a man who was more capable than all the people that have served her during her days in the war, also had his own weakness.
’This is my job.’ So she chose to give this man a child sometimes, let him get used to this bizarre emotion he was feeling.

"Uncle truly left." Selene smiled, picking a box and visiting a mailing service exclusive to her family. But her mind was not on the box, but on the letter she had recently received from Jester, which told her of some troublesome matter he might need to attend under the pretext of war.
But knowing that it was not only Crow that had left but even the amorphous cloud of consciousness that covered every inch of the capital. Selene knew that the thing that happened was too serious for her uncle to mention.
’I need to talk to mom.’
A sudden departure without any sufficient explanation is bound to raise some questions considering how little of her family was left. She hurriedly reached her mother, asking for an audience.
But all she got in return was refusal.
"Tower Master is busy due to some changes on the frontline. I hope you can understand miss." The one to hold her at the door was none other than her family’s Butler Gangu.
The man who used to attend to her mother when she was just a child. And was even considered an older brother by Orvillia privately due to the fact that in a way, Gangu helped Orvillia grow up to the level she was now.
There was even a certain old arc in the past, where Orvillia out of boredom had sent Gangu to beat Ikaros up, just because she found him a bit insolent.
The result?
Gangu was beaten to the inch of his life and Orvillia had to step in to save her butler. But what she didn’t know at that point was Ikaros’ personality.
That man never held an intention to harm anyone. He lacked the bloodthirstiness that people of his strength should possess. Which probably became the reason for his fall in the future.
Orvillia now regrets not forcing her husband to change her ways. She regrets the mistakes she made in her youth and wishes to rectify them by teaching her daughter to be as bloodthirsty as she was.
Which worked in some ways. As there was little resemblance to Ikaros when it came to personality.
"You should have felt it, the rats are acting normal, and the gaze over the city disappeared." Then she handed Gangu the letter, which made him a bit helpless.
This letter felt like a burden to him. Making him wonder what he should do with it.
As for its content. It was easy to see what this all meant.
"There should not be a lie in this, the great sir would have asked for help if there was some trouble on his end." Gangu tried to explain in simple words. Trying to send the young miss away.
But she didn’t budge at all.
"Boy, let her come in, nothing good would happen by hiding it from your young miss." A voice came from the back. Almost ineligible to Selene’s ears. But Gangu understood the meaning of those easily and bowed to the gate, before opening it.
A scene that confused Selene a bit. Making her wonder what this sound was and why Gangu appeared to understand such words. Before her words completed some simple conclusion and understood that the owner of that voice was at a much higher realm she could fathom.
So the energy she carried herself with died down and she walked into the room with her head down.
"A smart one... you got a good daughter Orvillia." The man said in a casual tone, which Selene understood this time. But she still didn’t dare to lift her head and nor did she speak much.
’Just who is this?’ From the fact that her uncle ran away facing something unexplainable and then the appearance of such a figure in her mother’s office. She put the two and two together and the fear in her heart increased by a certain amount.
Which made the face of Lord Emotion a bit disappointed.
While her mother just sighed. "There is no need to fear him. You can lift your head up." Orvillia said after much consideration.
Jester’s absence was noticed by most of the involved parties. Including another ascended party who had found a home in Phuket. Due to her strength, it was easy for Blue Rose to notice Jester’s absence from her area, but she didn’t care about it at all.
However the same was not the case with Emotion, who had too much invested in Jester. So he was here, giving a small explanation to Orvillia before her daughter burst into the door.
"She is young, please pardon her rashness." Orvillia bowed a bit while asking for forgiveness for her daughter.
A stark contrast to Orvillia’s true personality, where even a being like Duke Wortham had to back down in awe.
