Chapter 375: 6.11.2 A family tree.
(Massive mistake before, only one had to have the Tauran bloodline in the Brihma continent and that was Hemant... David was not the carrier of it. And it’s why I am changing David’s bloodline from Tauran to that of Ice Ape. He is still a foreigner in this land, so this should work."
Was there worry on his Knight?
Definitely, he was not inhuman and cared for those he considered his own. So the moment he learned of the accident, his first thought was how severe. Would this accident end Hemant’s life as a Knight?
Followed by a why.
Amir didn’t think it was an accident, Hemant’s strength as a Master level dictated that he could walk freely in the whole country and never face any struggle that would put his life at risk. That is unless he foolishly entered dangerous areas of his own will, or there is a premeditated attack on him.
It’s why, the question of "why" was so important to Amir, as he wondered what Hemant learned that it earned him a target on his back. Along with how corrupted his country is the fact that Hemant has been looking for clues would get exposed this early.
Mind you, even Amir hasn’t learned anything besides the dangers this being named Rat King can cause. That was his limit and a warning from his grandpa to not dig any deeper.
But Hemant had long left by that point and there was no easy way to contact him unless Amir wished to expose his order to the ears of his grandfather.
’No, he should be aware considering the idea was given by Burghim."
With David, he entered what seemed to be a military-exclusive ward in the hospital. Finding that the whole ward was emptied.
"What is going on?" Looking around, there were more people than just doctors, including some Mystics and even Lady Twilight Flower, who bowed to Amir upon his arrival. "Why is it so warm in here?" He asked again with some worry, confused for one and fearful on the other considering the whole ward felt oddly warm.
A warmth that felt familiar as well as alien. Such a conflicting emotion made him disturbed a bit.
It was then that the one who seemed to be leading the operation, Twilight Flower, finally spoke. "Lord Prince, your Knight seemed to have bought something forbidden in the colony." She said, explaining her findings in detail.
And the more he heard, the more fearful his face turned.
"The attackers did this to him? Is there a specific group in mind?" He asked to confirm if his suspicions were right but saw her shake her head in denial. Amir was sure of his assumption.
Initially, the attackers seemed to have failed in their attempt, proven by the fact that Hemant had originally recovered from his paralysis and with a day of rest, explaining to the officers what happened, he jumped on the train under the protection of some of the same officers and tried to reach for Planc.
But things changed when he was just two hours away from the colony.
"Lots of people lost their sight in the compartment, most military personnel." The story seemed absurd at first, but knowing that people had lost their sight, it was easy to see where this all was going.
"Did they plant something Taboo?" he now had an answer to the weird warmth in the ward and the presence of so many Mystics.
"Well, the attackers did plant a plant over his heart, we don’t know how to deal with it."
"A plant?... Can’t you just cut or burn it?" It was David who asked such a question. A question that was in Amir’s mind for only a second before he had denied such a simple answer for one specific reason.
"It’s never so simple when it comes to such objects, precaution is mandatory when dealing with them... So until all methods fail, no one would use such barbaric way to deal with them." Amir’s explanation was accurate.
Dealing with forbidden objects was never so simple.
Not to mention the ones that can blind mortals by their mere existence.
"Prince is correct. It’s never so simple when it comes to these things. And it was due to lack of such simplicity that I was called by military Mystics. They seemed to have found a way and would require my help." Her explanation was self-explanatory, considering she was the one with the greatest understanding of plant mysticism due to her branch of studies.
Making her an expert of sorts when dealing with such issues.
But Amir was not so stupid, he noticed some oddity. "Considering my Knight brought something so odd with him, the normal procedure is not to involve me due to concern over my safety."
"But you did call me, and from the looks of it, we are in a hurry?" Even the other patients were moved out of the wing, which a proof of how dangerous all of this was. So why would he be called here?
Were they planning to implicate him in this accident and make him fall?
No, none would be so foolish to do this. And they wouldn’t have called him in such a dangerous place unless there was something important at play here.
It was then that Twilight Flower explained the reason for all of this. A reason that put Amir in a tough position. "The Wish of Knight Hemant would have normally been denied, if not for the fact that he was attacked while doing an errand for the Prince. And it was the results of this errand that Hemant wishes to disclose with you personally."
She said, curious over what such errand was that Hemant earned the ire of such a brutal organization capable of carrying out such a harrowing attack.
And it was harrowing, even while being an archmage, she didn’t know if she could handle the weird plant over her heart.
"Of course, we don’t expect you to go and meet him personally, if you wish so, there can be a proxy arranged between the two of you." A proxy that would probably either lose his life if they were a criminal or their memory erased if they were military personnel. None of which Amir wished for.
"He is my Knight, and it’s my responsibility as his Lord to look him in the eye as he gives me his report. So I would request Archmage Twilight Flower to arrange my meeting with him. And I hope you do your best to ensure my safety." Of course, there was a chance that Hemant might survive the operation.
But it’s never too late to be sure. He needs to learn what Hemant learned. And then find a way to take revenge no matter what ends up happening to Hemant in the end.
*****
After ensuring that Sheva had kept the mortal keepsake of Prithvi in the safety of her belongings, I went to the corner of the hideout and found myself a bed to sleep in.
I was tired after a day of doing virtually nothing. So bored that I even went out of my way and checked the belongings of my captors, which were not useful to me, but to my men. Still, it was due to this boredom that I found something interesting in the middle.
But that was the highlight of the day because, in this slavers’ den, nothing will happen until the ship arrives.
However the same can’t be said about the colony not too far from the den. I could feel the seed germinate, tearing apart the seals on Hemant’s mind and opening a way for a piece of my soul into his mind.
The easy as well as the part where I actually had influence is over now. The rest depends on Hemant’s endurance and the capabilities of whoever his doctor would be.
Surviving that plant that feeds on your very soul is pretty hard. The only reason it didn’t feed on my soul is due to the little Ritual I did in the Root and Harvest’s temple not too long ago, gaining a level of immunity to such influence.
It was why I had been able to carry some of these seeds with me without worry.
To me, they were sort of like family. They gave me a home, carried me through thin and thin seals over the minds, and let me hitch a ride with them when I wanted. It was due to them that finally had a way to implant a seed of me inside stronger individuals.
’If only I can see what is going on in that end... but I can’t put all my hard work at risk for a moment of enjoyment.’
Closing my eyes, I entered the dream of the boy from the mortal world, who suffered from the same nightmare.
However, in this nightmare, I had also added the other girl just as a sort of experiment. Making me wonder if some parasocial relationship between the two, forms or not.
Those signs I saw not too long ago, considering the boy seemed a bit free while talking to the girl.
This girl might be the key to keeping this boy in check when he works under me in the future. And although on account of being from the mortal world, he might not possess any transcendental talents just like many others before him, it doesn’t mean he will be useless.
All those who came before him changed the world on their knowledge alone.
’Though, it would seem harder for this kid to do the same.’ I shook my head in some disappointment as well, while looking at the boy who kept running from this giant dog-like monster, while carrying the girl whose name I had long forgotten.
