Chapter 346: 6.02.3 A perfect partner.

"What’s so different about me?"

"You act like a human should."

"..." Weird words had been spoken to Amir before, but this was the first time he heard such a stupid sentence.

"But I am a human, so of course I would act in like one." He spoke, apparently sure of his words.

But the woman in the mirror just laughed. "You, you have experienced it, haven’t you? Those that are human, but act worse than monsters. And your family is the biggest monster of them all."

Her words showed that not all had been lost about his history from the world, she knows his past, or at least part of it even though his grandfather had tried his best to hide it from the world.

Including his acquaintances who worked on his "precious" engine along with him. The only good news is that they were paid handsomely to keep their mouth shut, Amir made sure that they wouldn’t curse him in the future for the fate of knowing his past identity.

"You have experienced what it feels to be under the tyranny of powerful people. Unable to scream for help in fear of retaliation, even the people that are meant to protect you turn into your enemy."

Amir’s ears perked up at those words and then he smiled. "Yes, that is humanity too. It’s wrong to relegate the evil of humanity by calling it inhuman." Amir was a simple and straightforward man, he didn’t like playing mind games too much, it was direct retaliation the moment he was capable of it.

"... You really are different from what our reports said." A similar smile appeared on the face in the mirror as well, which slowly faded away.

"This makes it the second time... I wonder what kind of backdoor she is using." Amir said, before going back to his work.

The anger he felt since his talk with his butler Bringhum has settled down. All in his head that remained was his work, along with the weird Mysterious assassin who seemed more interested in talking than killing him.

’Hope, I am not forced to kill you in the future.’ Amir prayed, wondering if the day would come when they would meet each other face to face and whether that would also be their last meeting.

’Hope, she doesn’t make a foolish decision.’

"Gazelle, it’s time to come back."

"Master?... I understand." She looked toward the sad mask that her Master wore currently, which was a sign that something bad had happened.

"Were you able to save him at least?" She asked, wondering if that cousin brother of hers could ever hope to come back.

And I could only shake my head in denial. There was no way for me to claim his soul before the underworld did.

Ignoring the issue of distance, the existences surrounding Carp during his death were too much for me to handle. "Inform others, and tell them it’s time to leave that place. We don’t want you to fall into enemy lines when the war begins."

"... I understand master." She said, feeling a bit sad herself.

"Also, keep note of Owl, he has a habit of making stupid decisions when driven by emotions, so if possible, don’t inform him about what happened with Carp."

"Yes Master..." There were few people who could actually control Owl, and Gazelle was the only among team one, that actually held some influence over him. "This is enough, hope your journey is safe." With those words, I was making my leave.

But then, I saw Gazelle step forward and stop me by holding my finger. "You still have that old habit?" I asked, knowing how timid this little Gazelle the mysterious used to be.

In her youth, after being chosen by me, I took her on a trip to dreams. And in those dreams, whenever she wished to request something from me, she would hold my finger, just like this. "Speak child, what is the matter?"

"... A few days ago, seeing how down Blue, Own, and Scart were due to their failures, I went ahead and tried to kill Prince Amir."

"You, I have told you not to use your ability without my permission."

"I... I know, but you should have heard what they were saying..." Excuse after excuse, she spoke some childish things to me, just like how her siblings acted when confronted by me. Which goes to show, I am more of a parent figure in their eyes.

"I was busy with some work and some books, It’s why I was not able to contact you. Not because I was disappointed with you." And I was truly angered when I said these words. First I learn that Carp is dead after experiencing immense torture, and now I am hearing this.

I couldn’t help but worry about these children. Their foolish choices will really bring them closer to death as time goes on. "Tell me, are they aware of your existence?"

With a cold tone, I asked Gazelle, who didn’t dare to look into my eyes while shaking her head in denial and then shaking up and down saying that they did know her. "The prince, I only met him but didn’t kill him."

"Didn’t kill you, or couldn’t?"

"I didn’t kill him because I found something interesting on his table." At the mention of interesting, I wonder, what it was that made Gazelle, who was truly capable of killing the prince, stop in her tracks. "Explain in full detail."

"Yes..."

*****

A week has gone by since that meeting with Gazelle and the book on Magnetic field was in my hand once again.

But it didn’t feel as interesting as I had presumed.

Not anymore.

"Steam is outdated... No even magic is outdated now."

I have taught all my kids some basic knowledge, all in an attempt to make it possible for them to identify some value if they were to ever come across it. And Gazelle just did, although only a little part of it.

But from what she could note down, it was something fascinating in my eyes.

"Prince Amir is it?" A face appeared in my head, then the same face appeared in the dreams of some specific members of Team Two. "Capture in any way possible and collect all his research notes. No more than 2 subteams will be involved in this operation. Go and don’t disappoint me."

With those words, I closed the book and looked forward to the success of Team Two.

From what I can see, there is a chance both of these teams might fail. ’The boy might not know yet, but he has fallen for Gazelle, or is in the process of falling for her.’

The foolish boy can’t see the potential of what he has created even now. He thinks it’s a good tool to push metal boxes on the road.

I can see the potential that he can’t even fathom at the moment. And if his findings were to reach the dwarves, they might just start a war with Cynark in order to get hold of Amir.

But what is Cynark doing?

’They can’t adapt with time, so time will devour them.’ I looked forward to their demise, to the end of Cynark.

And as I was having such beautiful thoughts, a siren sounded far off from the city below us, from the capital of Yethel, Mada.

’Oh, it begins on their end as well.’ I smiled, watching my beautiful niece lead Farhad out from a cell that was carrying none other than the drugged-out Remira. ’Yes, this one pawn played her part to perfection, She should be the spark that ignites the war among Knights.’

"Crow, close the windows, I don’t like this sound."

"Yes, professor."

"I knew I shouldn’t have put my trust in a guy like you." Number 2 cursed looking at Farhad, who appeared embarrassed at the moment. "Didn’t you used to be a mage before that thing happened to your body?"

"I was a mere apprentice who didn’t even get to complete the second year of my studies. So I am as ignorant in magic just as you." Farhad said with a straight face. Although he agreed he made a mistake, he also knew that putting a detection circle under sewers is really messed up stuff.

Who has the capital and money to do such a wasteful thing where homeless and rats are always frequent?

’Of course it’s him, he is a rat himself."

"Then learn it as you are with me for now. Treat it as a good opportunity for yourself." She suggested while taking out a stopwatch from her pocket. "Three minutes more and our anti-divination ward will come down. We have to hurry out of the city."

"But we are surrounded by rats, he is probably watching us now."

"No, he isn’t. Someone very important to him died not too long ago, so he went there to take revenge."

"??"

"You don’t need to know for now. Just focus on escaping, we have to reach Cynark as soon as possible."
