Chapter 344: 6.02.1 Mirror.
"Explode some charges to the south of the field."
"It’s exploded, now follow me into the battle."
"Remember, this is just practice, so don’t be a coward and give your everything for this war."
Amir shouted orders and made plans as he was instructed to. The war tactics he learned were mostly from the books left by previous generals, and he was just following their steps, adapting the tactics to modern day and using a gun as he rushed into the battlefield.
A bit weird for a Master level Knight, who could cover the distance of three hundred meters in the blink of an eye.
But Amir maintained his normal pace, fought among the common soldiers to see their perspective and the limitation they might face due to weak physique.
All done under the order of his Grandfather, that wished to not repeat the mistakes that has caused countless tragedies on the border with Yethel. Where the ignorant noble generals born with powerful bloodline, put the common soldiers at risk by not knowing their limits, pushing them till they were too weak to fight actual war.
So this way, Amir, while leading his team through a group exercise, also learned the limits of a common army.
But while he fought in this war and ended up winning using the tactics he read, there was not any sense of accomplishment in his heart. Because these were not his own inventions, he had no way to explore a new path on his own, create something better for the future of mankind.
’War is much boring than I expected.’
He has killed just four people in his life, but that was enough for him. This was his limit and there was no need to kill more. But to make his grandfather happy, he still did as he was told and waited till his Butler brings him some good news.
"Amir, your grip has gotten tighter than before." The man in front of Amir was his combat coach. He taught him fighting techniques that Amir never get to learn due to lack of connections and resources before he learned his true identity.
Now, every week after the team training among commoners is over, he would also have to suffer from three days personal Knight training from a Vice General himself, who didn’t care for his identity nor treated him in any special way.
It’s also the time he hated most for one specific reason.
"I see value in the hand-to-hand combat, so I focus on it to make myself better." Amir spoke, looking deeply at his teacher, who nodded in approval while cracking his neck, showing that Amir’s grip really did a number on him. Before giving Amir a bunch of nonsensical feedback on where he made a mistake and what should have been better.
"Let’s move onto something advanced, a weapon you should be very familiar with." The man’s name was David from the North, from the North, unlike the contemporary citizens of Cynark Kingdom, David’s skin was paler than the rest.
With blue eyes and golden hair, he was even known among the Knight Recruits as Gold Demon. As for why the Demon part, it was simple.
"Take this blade and come at me." Gold Demon was obsessed with battle.
Blades collide, throwing Amir’s body into the wall. "Use the blade as a feint while implementing kicks in a one on one fight. It has higher reach and more force if you want to gain some breathing room."
Amir spit some blood on the side as he thought of the perfect method to tackle today’s lesson.
This mortal fight between two super powered individuals might appear weird in some eyes, but David was just filling in the parts that Amir has been lacking all this time. Actual battle experience.
This experience would be harder to gain if Amir was to use his absurdly powerful Bloodline, which was made for killing. And in practice, there was no need for killing.
He understood the value of this battle very much, this was instilling in him a battle sense that he never used in his life. The true value of this practice can only been on battlefield, where he will be free to use his bloodline.
But still, after being beaten by David for the fourth time, he has had enough. "This feels so inefficient. Why war like this when you can get your head blown by a sniper hundred of meters away from us?" David asked that many in his position has asked before. A simple questions which might have been one of the reason why the current generation of Knights have turned too complacent in their practice, specifically in Cynark, which boasted the strongest military.
A question that’s David very much hated, but although David treated Amir like a student, he knew that the position between the two was very different, he can’t show his annoyance over the question, he just said. "This is for the situation if the enemy were to come close to us." A shitty excuse i David’s eyes.
The old way of Knights was dying, now guns and poisons were much more popular to eliminate enemies.
These are not the old days when honor and chivalry mattered at all. To eliminate your enemies, one doesn’t mind stooping to the lowest level if they could. A belief that Amir was subscriber of.
But soon he shut up as he saw David aim his blade toward the wall and said. "Then there is this." With a single slash, a small knife mark appeared on the wall fifteen meters away from him.
"You used bloodline technique?" There was no awe in Amir’s face, he just asked with a straight face, annoying David further due to the tone, but he just shook his head in denial. "No, no bloodline ability used... what you just saw was an advanced combat art, that only old families possess, and it takes centuries to develop."
"Even if Guns are the mainstream currently, for us Knights with advanced combat arts, guns are still nothing more than plaything. Too weak compared to the power we can employ."
"This, seems efficient? But you can’t create something out of nothing, from your words, this is not fueled by blood. Then how did you drive such skill?"
"Don’t dream of mastering them before learning the basics. There is a reason why it’s called Advanced Combat Art."
"First, learn to handle the blade like you did with hand-to-hand combat, then we can learn the rest with time."
******
"Did you enjoy today’s lesson, young master?"
"Not at all. Felt like time waste as always, whereas I could have focused on things much more important." Amir said, giving one look to his Butler, before leaving to shower.
’As I thought, he is keeping an eye on me.’ Amir thought in his head, knowing what might be going on in the mind of his Butler.
But he didn’t wish to expose him as of yet. It’s better to just act ignorant and keep some thoughts to one self. He didn’t trust his family, nor the blood he carried.
Just like they didn’t trust him with truth. ’It’s more apparent now, Burghim is much stronger than me... not a mage, otherwise he would be easier to be noticed... A grandmaster level Knight?... too wasteful on me.’
Whatever level his butler Burghim was, he was assured of one thing.
’He is not my friend and probably won’t talk to Grandfather about my request.’
Meaning, there is only one escape for him left.
’Should I just run away?’ He thought of going to Pulgasari, people there ought to appreciate him for his talent.
But considering how much of cowards the dwarfs were, they might just expose him and throw him back to the wolves.
"Hah, what am I even thinking?"
After bathing up and eating his fill of high nutritious food that was provided by his Butler, Amir went back to his room.
’Finally free.’ He thought, before resuming his work on his engine.
’This will one day change the world.’
"Hmm?" But before he could do a thing, he noticed something odd in his room.
"There are still people courageous enough to assassinate me?" He said, turning to look toward the mirror that was not too far from him. "Come out, let me see your face before your death.’
It’s been long, it’s been long since someone has tried to kill him.
Since earning the title of the prince, few people even dared to look into his eyes. While many of the old noble families who he was in the fight against slowly disappeared from the world, probably the work of his grandfather, or they disappeared on their own fearing retribution.
But what is this? There were still someone courageous enough to harm him?
"Oh I did come here to kill you for my Brothers..." A face slowly materialized on the mirror, appearing feminine and holding a beauty in them that Amir has never seen before, "...but I never expected to learn such a big secret of yours."
Seeing the face, Amir was startled at first, before smiling and asking. "You, you truly are not here? Are you?"
"Not anymore, not when that man is with you."
"You fear him, it means you know him enough to fear him." Amir thought, before a thought came into his mind. "Tell me, tell me how strong he is, along with his capabilities, and I promise to not pursue this matter any further."
"Mighty kind of you Prince, but even if you wish for it, you can’t find me anyway."
