Even the gods in the world were not omnipotent. So what of a weak creature like me?

I had tried hardest to prevent unnecessary deaths. The people that were close to me, useful to me and loved by me were saved. While the traitors faced their comeuppance, except for Baldar, who needed to be dealt with before he exploded.

Even them, I never wished for his death. For all his flaws, he was still a child I saw grow up from nothing to become someone greater. Much funnier and interesting than his siblings.

I had hopes in future that when time comes, I would be able to fix the problems in his body and rescue him for the greater future that awaits us. But not all the things would go the way you expected them to be.

"Who is this boy?" Anna asked, curious over my existence. As although she had some inkling about Sheva and Rashid through the words of the dwarven agent from before. She was not aware of me, who I was and why I was there.

Causing a hint of suspicion to rise in her.

And this suspicion is probably the reason why the woman hiding in the dark, the reason for this illusion, my old friend Kassandra was not daring to come out of the dark. A coward like always, she was probably eying me deeply, trying to get the sense of who I was and what I was capable of.

Considering the situation, it would be simple for Remira to abandon me or throw me to her new companions that popped up with the excuse of dealing with the current job in time than deal with me. But her words surprised me."Someone useful. He is coming along." She said, sounding stupid a bit from my perspective.

But there was another unexpected variable that I never considered in the current scenario. ’A test.’ I knew it. This was a test. As the most sensible thing to do currently was go with these two or use the excuse that you will stay here considering Sheva’s current health. So dragging her in danger towards that existence called Blue Rose would be dangerous.

’Good game.’ I enjoyed this little trick from Remira. Making me want to ruin her more and more. "... If It’s possible, I would stay here and take care of Miss Sheva." I faced a roadblock of the proportions I had never thought of. This was unexpected and understandable at the same time.

I should have known that considering the dire state Remira was in, she must have looked for reinforcements, and to counter these reinforcements, I had planned ahead to ambush any Knights that dare to set close to the city.

What I never expected was for this Knight to work with two Tower masters together. How did they meet? When did they meet? And why did the three come together?

The answers to these questions were not within my reach, as people of such level had mental protections that I can’t break through at all.

I have never felt so powerless like this since two decades ago.

And this was why, I wanted to smile.

I wanted to laugh out loud over the joy I felt currently.

For this unexpected situation was a great twist that made it all so fun.

"Are you sure about it?"

"I am not the kind to walk into danger, not until I make sure she is alright." I spoke before showing an uneasy expression and saying. "But I have a request, can anyone of you bring my master here? I don’t think they will take my betrayal kindly."

At such an understanding request, Remira nodded, before looking toward Anna and asking, "Did Drothik come with you?" And Anna nodded. "Order him to do as he asks, while we go and deal with this test."

Ignoring the foolish soldiers that had fallen into the illusion, after some light talk, the duo of Remira and Rashid left me alone with Anna.

Though Rashid still gave me a deep look, probably confused over his feelings over me. Was I truly an enemy or helper.

"Boy, come with me." Anna said, placing her finger on my forehead, leaving a mark without my consent, and then forcing me to follow her out of this encirclement. "Have you thrown them into a dream?" I asked to show my ignorance over the matter by mistaking this as Anna’s ability, and she didn’t bother explaining who was behind it but said something along the lines of it being a simple illusion.

And like that, I had some more talks with her, or at least I tried but Anna didn’t seem to be in mood of talking to me. She was not even interested in me at all. She just asked me what I knew about Jester and what was my relationship with him.

"I... I will tell, but can you please hand over some medicines or even food? Miss Sheva doesn’t seem to be is great state."

"First you answer, then I will help you."

"But Miss Remir..."

"I don’t run a charity, it’s a give and take scenario, depending on your answer, the quality of treatment for your friend will change." With her mage oriented brain, she never understood the value of showing some kindness to those weaker than her. Unless she earns a profit in a particular exchange, she won’t bother with trying at all.

A habit that most mage cultivate, hence the reason why they are called Selfish. And she was no different. As even with all that strength and powers. Even spiritual contracts she had with spirits, she still could not show any kindness to me, a potential enemy.

"There is nothing to speak of... He asked me to help Master and Miss Sheva and I just did that. But after coming to this city, all I ever spoke with was my boss, I never met him again." A small summary was all that was given out by me. And hearing my small story where I hid some of my shameful actions. She nodded in response and then threw a potion toward me. "This is what your information is worth." She said to me, showing no emotion at all.

She had understood that I was closer to being useless in the current situation, so when we came to walk into a passing, coming across a jeep, she said to its driver. "Take these people to the pier. We will be leaving soon enough."

A driver that was meant to recover my teacher. Which I obviously pointed out. "Didn’t you know that the city is a death zone for people like us? Did you genuinely believe that your teacher could be recovered in such a situation?"

She said with a laugh, as if looking at an ignorant fool. Before she ordered me. "It’s already great that you were able to secure your life, better appreciate it."

Such poison in her voice, same as the times in Durum when I was active there.

Generally, she is a sensible person who knows how to make friends easily. But that only happens when the opponent is someone of the same caliber, otherwise those weaker than her are not treated as nicely. Or it should be that she considers them a lower lifeforms that aren’t even worth speaking to.

Oh Kassandra, what sort of friends are you making just in an attempt to take me out. This woman is not a good influence. She is a pawn of Cynark, one that has enjoyed the prosperity of the that country which was based on tragedy of others.

"Sorry Senior, I... I understand." I said, accepting the situation and then getting on the jeep. Whatever, let her enjoy this moment of success for a while longer.

Or so I had believed.

As the moment I had sat on the jeep, something struck my head and I lost consciousness.

"Such cruel words to the boy, this doesn’t seem like you."

"Cruel words will be the only thing that works in this scenario. We can’t intrude on this land more than we already have. Otherwise, all we will face is non-stop pursuit of their mages." Anna explained her perspective, but Kassandra just laughed it off. "I am just joking Anna, no need to take it serious. Even Remira could see it, but she is too weak to put it out like you did."

The two women talked as the Jeep started and started to drive out of the small forest.

"But, is it really worth it? Exposing ourselves like this here?" Anna wondered, considering she was the one who had most to lose by showing her face here. But Kassandra nodded, "You exposing yourself is a lot more important than you might think if you understood how petty that bastard is."

"Considering the story of the boy named Farhad, I can see what his true nature is like... didn’t this mean, he will take revenge on me?"

"He will and that’s just what we want."
