Chapter 242: 4.07.3 Sorry for intrusion.

This was not the time for all of that. For now, her survival took some priority and Vegal was not the one to show any mercy on his subjects. She will be tortured, skinned, her organs replaced or mutated, and whatever else Vegal has in mind.

But considering what interested Vegal was Fahna’s ability to suppress her mana fluctuations, he would probably ask her some questions. Who was she, how did she do it, and how he could replicate it?

If she fails to answer him, he starts his process, experimentation led by countless errors and failures to reach the optimum result he has in his mind. This is the only way for him to get what he wants and it’s rare for Fahna to survive this.

So it was in my best interest to stop him for the moment.

Though, while Carp was rushing here, another figure, older and much sharper, knocked on the door of Vegal. Startling the old dwarf, who pushed Fahna into a hidden compartment after making sure that she was incapacitated he walked toward the door.

A bold choice filled with arrogance, in his mind, Fahna can’t move, can’t aim due to her broken hands, can’t speak due to a swollen throat caused by Vegal’s grip, and can’t move due to similarly broken legs.

A sad existence whose pain was so bad that it might send on into the land of dreams in a bid to escape from the pain. But Fahna was not so weak, her mentality had been strengthened through her interactions with different worlds.

The ones in the dark with Max and the ones in light with the Military, along with a lot of other experiences that made her pain tolerance rise to the extreme. And it just so happened that she had trained for scenarios just like this.

Seeing the dwarf disappear, she knew that this might be the only moment she could make her escape. As for looking for the dwarf’s identity and her revenge? That can all come later when she is stronger.

In her mind, her mission was partially successful, she had ascertained that this place where the boy lived was weird, and it must have some connection to the wraith she had been looking for.

In her mind, Vegal was the sign that as she had feared, Sheva was under constant watch.

Otherwise, why would someone like this dwarf stay so close?

For Crows? A boy with no father left? To watch him over?

No, the boy was just an excuse, in her mind this dwarf should be one of the higher-tier members of that bastard’s group.

But this was no time to dally any longer, this was the opportunity she had been looking for and this might just be her only chance at escape.

So she manipulated her mana first.

To a mage, their mana was everything, but more than mana, it was the Medium through which a mage cast their spells.

In old times, the Mages were not so different from the Curse users. They used their body as the medium. Mixing, manipulating, and giving form to a spell inside their body, before they materialize it in the real world. Causing many pages to lose their body parts due to misfire and rarely would an apprentice survive the violent energies exuded by spells in their body.

It was why the mages were told to build up a strong body. Because even if it decreases the chance of self-destruction by a single percent, then it’s good.

Of course, I am speaking about the age of barbarians, where humanity still hadn’t obtained enlightenment. And these kinds of stories are just tales to teach young mages the importance of the end result of their legacy.

A casting medium.

They come in many forms. Starting with bones, to staffs, and then wands, before the present-day gloves. Of course, there were some eccentric people who did their best to hide their medium, as it was like a Knight’s sword for mages.

But for the knowledgeable ones, it was easy to see it as when a spell materializes, it would usually start close to the medium. And Fahna’s medium just happened to be around her arm. So glove it was.

By breaking the hands of Fahna, Vegal has ensured that this little intruder won’t be able to cast a spell anymore, as she might just die.

Of course, Mediums were not the only way to cast spells and there was no rule a mage could only have one. But Vegal believed with his work, she wouldn’t be able to do something dangerous for the time being.

Again, a big mistake.

Her broken fingers shivered as they slowly tapped on the floor. Once, twice, and thrice.

But each time she did, her broken medium didn’t produce any sparks.

In her gloves, she had mainly engraved a total of three spells. One for support during dangerous moments, the second one being her invisible flames, and the third and last, a spell she used to enter Salvarez’s hospital room, a spell her father was famous for, the Flame Teleportation.

Tap Tap Tap, it sounded. She recalled the sensation of the broken circuits in her glove before her mind formed up the spell in an instant, then something in her hair became undone, and using it as the catalyst, the spell was cast.

With a fiery tempest, her body suddenly disappeared from the room and as the shop was just a normal one without any magic defenses, she directly appeared ten meters away from the shop’s wall.

And exposing her to Vegal who glared at her with annoyed looks, but he didn’t dare to move. Not now, when someone dangerous was standing in front of him.

"You got what you wanted, correct?" Vegal asked the old man, who nodded in response. "I apologize for the lady’s little antics in your home, I will make sure she doesn’t do so again."

"Again? If she comes here the next time, I will rip her from limbs instead of just breaking them." Vegal felt annoyed at the moment. Such a perfect subject had fallen right into his hands and by their own will. He was already building up fantasies in case he succeeded in his goal. But when the man in front of him visited, he knew that it was not worth it.

He was in hiding, and he didn’t wish to get under the scrutiny of the Bothal, not now at least. Considering the state of Bothal and the purges going on in the government, there was a high chance that they would treat an incidence of the current scale of utmost importance

Mind you, the people at the center of the Void event were still not caught.

And the man in front of him was a human, a Master Rank Human, just like him. And although he was confident in winning against this man, he found that it would ultimately be to his advantage at the end.

So he has to give up, for the man in front won’t give up.

Not to mention, his desire to find answers from Fahna had died down to some extent. He knows for sure, they were not government agents, at least not of Bothal. And from what he had gleaned while talking to the old man, it would seem the woman who intruded was some kind of noble lady.

"I would teach her to hold back her curiosity, so please don’t mind her for now."

Fahna on the other hand didn’t feel a bit of shame for being protected by her butler, instead, there was a hint of relief.

In a way, she had succeeded and learned what she wanted. Leaving with her life was great enough as well.

So what if she broke her bones, and wasted a precious catalyst to cast an instant spell? Did her Gloves destroyed?

Everything was worth it for knowing the danger that surrounded that cabin.

This has also confirmed her prior suspicions.

Her teacher did work with some shady people and those shady people now have their eyes on her from the little stunt she pulled.

’No.’ She shook her head. ’They know where I was from the moment I visited the teacher.’ There must be many eyes here.

It was not a wrong conjecture, due to the town’s small size and lack of any powerful individuals, it had been much easier for me to influence the little critters here, controlling and pushing a giant net of surveillance on this place.

Each and every move of hers was seen by me. And not, although due to a misconception, she knows I am here.

Or at least, my people are.

"Lady, let’s leave the gentleman to his devices." Then her Butler came and helped her up, causing her to cringe in pain for a bit, before shaking her head and saying. "Thank you." She didn’t look toward Vegal anymore.

There was no need to.

She had remembered his face, and she would exact her revenge on him soon enough.
