Chapter 241: 4.07.2 Should I do it?

"Baldar, has anything entertaining happened yet?"

"Not yet captain, but don’t you worry, I will inform you when the time comes." Carp’s team, or the team designated as team two was responsible for the Bothal incident.

Their directives are simple, lead the chosen pawn and make him a big nuisance in Bothal attracting all the attention in the process, which did work. The incident became as high profile as they expected, earning them the things they had been looking for all this time.

Which were blueprints for some weapons that Vegal had stolen during his escape and hidden deep into his mind. The knowledge will come in very handy in case the country of Pulgasari tries to pull something like they did before.

Betraying the very shield that protects them from the Cynark empire.

It was why, even with the good relations Pulgasiri and Republic of Yethel enjoyed on the surface, the things down below were much ugly and there were people dying in order to overturn the game that was international politics.

"Good then, I can leave this place then."

"Captain?"

"Order came from the dream, Master wants me elsewhere. Something fun came up. So you stay here and notify me if something goes bad." Recently, the good of Carp since recovering his sanity had been good.

Although his body looked more crooked than before, his eyes were close to blind and his body smelled of rot. The smile on Carp’s face hasn’t faded till now.

As for the reason? It was simple.

He was happy to see the ugly mug of The once handsome Baldar. He felt like this fellow of his was a true compatriot now, even the thought of doing the same with other members of team two popped up in Carp’s mind, but he was put down by the Jester, who called him a nuisance.

Jester’s reasoning was simple, Team two focuses on infiltration and espionage. They were masters at hiding in plain sight. So if they were to earn an ugly mug like their leader, their work would become much harder.

A reasoning that was strong enough to calm him down for a moment. But it didn’t make him forget about it. His mind was always on such thoughts all the time. And he was hoping for another accident to happen, just like the one Baldar suffered from in the River of Labes.

"Elsewhere alone? Is it something fun?" Baldar asked with a smile on his face. "If so, I want in."

"Haha! You enjoyed your ’captain-play’ when I was out... so stay here and let me do it this time." Baldar still maintained his act of wanting to join in, he pleaded, calling the current job a bore.

And it was a bore when compared to the rest of their life. But considering the importance of this job, they can’t ignore it. Not for now at least.

The trio’s protection was of priority, and there were a total of two other groups that surrounded the hideout of Sheva, Max, and Crow. All of them are waiting. Waiting for something to happen.

And in case nothing does, only then would Max’s daughter be taken to the cave.

Of course, Sheva didn’t know the reason for the delay, her mind was already cooking up all sorts of reasons, which included her dead friend playing a dirty prank on some accident.

All of this caused her worry, which she soon pushed down in fear of Max noticing it. Of course, it can’t be hidden for long. And for Baldar, who had been with Sheva for far longer than anyone else in this world, he knew her worries, how she panicked, and her ability to hide it all too well, to not worry her compatriots.

She was a strong woman, if born into the correct family, she might have turned into something greater and not a lowly soldier during wartime. Not to mention being a guerilla, who were infamous for having a high fatality rate.

Making Baldar a bit guilty. He knew that if not for him, Sheva’s life would have been a lot different. As for whether she would be alive or not, he couldn’t say, but he did know that it wouldn’t be as miserable as it was now.

So he wanted her to succeed in her goal, he wished for her to do her job and win the prize that was set up at the end. And to ensure that nothing happens till then, he has to keep a watch on her.

As for his desire to go with Carp, a bastard obsessed with his own ugliness? An act, knowing full well that if he had denied going there, this man would obviously forced Baldar to come with him.

He has to stay here, he has to make sure that no matter what happens Sheva survives this ordeal. At least one, would they earn a normal life, an escape from all this madness.

"Sheesh captain, usually, the Master calls for me to go...as you know..."

"That was only because you were more handsome than me before, but now look at you. An ugly mug like mine, it makes no difference now." Carp laughed as he left the scene like a madman. Leaving Baldar to his own devices.

"I still wonder, why did you choose someone like him as the captain," Baldar spoke, knowing full well that Jester should be keeping an eye on him. But like it was usual, he never got a reply.

Showing that his importance on the totem pole of pawns was much lower than someone like Carp, a madman who doesn’t could barely maintain his mind after each conflict. A man that can be considered a disaster.

But it was better this way, being the leader is too much responsibility, and with responsibility comes blame. He won’t be able to protect Sheva like he had been doing from the dark till now. So in a way, Carp had been able to help him a lot.

Of course, it didn’t mean his curiosity over what Carp was going to do was fake. He really wanted to know and go there, but he kept his priority straight.

He remained adamant on staying here and protecting Sheva was the curious eyes in the dark, who had their own plans.

Of course, the ’curious eyes’ that Baldar was apparently protecting Sheva from had long been captured by none other than that old dwarf he met before.

*****

The fate of this family was really messed up. At this point, even I had started to wonder that they were cursed for real and not by me. But something much greater, something akin to fate.

Otherwise, what would explain this bad luck?

It became the reason I ordered Carp to get up and stop Vegal from going any further. My reason is also very simple, my old friend already hates me for the things I did to him and his father, and I can’t let him hate me for his sister as well.

At least not now, not until he has seen her true face.

The face of a brute, a devil in my eyes. So I can’t let her die so early, no matter how much value her death might bring me in the long run.

One of which included blaming her death on Pulgasari, causing the relations between Pulgasiri and Cynark estranged more than they already are.

Or going a level further, the man, the legendary Vegal already has all the important research notes, turning her into another Machine Golem or Cyborg won’t be an issue.

And if she were able to retain her abilities to some extent, one can imagine the mayhem.

Should it be called Karma? Using their own weapons against them and causing a war between the two nations?

Ho, how wonderful. How interesting it would be.

I can’t help but want to kidnap some key figures, I have some of them in my mind, a son, a daughter, an older brother. There were so many, all of them could be replaced, all of them could be strengthened, and all of them could be turned into killers.

Yes. I should let Vegal do what he wants, let her be a sacrifice. I still have methods to open the eyes of my old friend, let him forget his old or new life, and come under my command once again.

Not like he has any good memories of hers to begin with, she was a cruel sister who looked down on her weak brother, none of which was influenced by me. I never tried to make my friend’s life hard until the moment came for his awakening.

So he won’t be that angry, right?

However, I know what to do, the optimal path with the least resistance. I don’t wish to do it, things like that are too boring.

Although I don’t like it, she still has to live for longer. Long enough to create her own family, but that will be her end.

That, I promise.
