Chapter 223: 4.04.2 Follow me.

"This is the wall," Remira said, leaving a trail of broken bodies that were trying to crawl towards her with one thought in their mind.

To kill the last blood of the one-eyed wolf. That’s what drove them.

But they were too slow and incapable of doing anything, while the rest were being held down by Farhad, who seemed to be enjoying himself from the vibrations in this place.

The wall that Remira now stood in front of was pretty similar to the ones before, with the only difference being it melted and the lack of a Daugr here, meaning people frequented this place.

Not to mention, if looking below, one can notice some traces of shifting, proof that this might just be a fake wall.

After the fact that she stood in a mausoleum with a dangerous beast, there was also a high chance that this wall would have traps or enemies that would be ready for her. Something dangerous that would eliminate her or the Daugrs before her easily, but nothing destructive enough to collapse this cave like a mausoleum.

’A bullet? Holy Water? Or a saw.’ There were various traps in her mind. And Remira was in no mood to face any of them. Picking up one of the Daugrs after cutting their arms so that they don’t flail around too much. She used them as her shield as she struck the hilt of her sword into the wall, causing cracks to appear.

"Again." She said, before striking again.

This was hard, she had used enough force to shatter the head of these Daugrs, but she could only cause a small crack on the wall. But this was not going to hold her.

She was close anyway. There is no need to keep up the act, and there is a high chance that the Doctor might be making his escape. So she could only use her full force at this point.

It was then that she chose to awaken a part of her bloodline, causing flames on her body to converge, taking the form of white fur.

She readied her weapon and then struck it like before, using its hilt like a hammer causing the wall to almost shatter.

"STOP!" It was then that she heard a voice, the voice of that accursed doctor that she had heard so many times before. But this time, it didn’t come from any speaker system, it came right next to the wall. It was the voice of Dinesh, who appeared in Remira’s eyes for the first time.

Having the same face and voice as the one Remira met not too long ago. And although she could only see a part of his face, she wished to see more and she would not take no for an answer.

Ignoring his cries, she struck again, shattering the wall big enough that a young child could enter easily.

"I said stop... you don’t know what you are doing." He spoke again, but Remira was so close to her goal that she would only speak when the Doctor’s throat was in her grasp.

But before that, she had to make sure, this bastard didn’t run. So using the big hole she created, she took out her pistol and planned to shoot him in the leg. But this time, it was someone else that called out. "Remira, you really grew up."

A voice that felt familiar but alien at the same time, it was a distant memory that felt fresh to her for some reason.

A dream, yes it was a dream where she heard this voice. A dream with a wolf and a tragedy she hated to recall. But she had faced it, she had seen the truth.

"So you still remember." The voice said as Remira heard her steps closing in on her from the other side of the broken wall. "I had hoped that you would forget about this place... why did you even come here." The woman said, showing some regret in her voice.

Which confused Remira.

Yeah, why was I so adamant about coming here?

Wasn’t there to find someone?

She recalled the dream with the One-eyed wolf, who had requested her to go back to her home to find someone.

Someone very close to her, someone she considered lost all this time. Someone who gave her life to protect her and seemingly died.

But no, she was alive, she was here and she was alive.

"Mother?" No, this can’t be real.

The dream, she can’t believe her dreams, she can’t be sure that her mind would be unharmed after facing that wraith who called himself. He had a habit of twisting the memories of his victims and Remira could almost recall, that she had fallen into his trap long ago.

All of it was a dream, it can be false.

But the closer the steps got, the weaker her suspicion became.

And when they finally reach the area, Remira can finally see the woman.

A face that she had forgotten surfaced in her eyes, the woman was much older than before, much calmer and wiser as well. And although, she didn’t look the same as the one in her surfaced memory. Remira knew it was her.

It was her mother.

"I had hoped we met in different circumstances, but you came here too early." The woman said as she ordered the doctor to open the door.

Which surprised Remira. As the moment she had ascertained this was her mother, various thoughts had formed in her mind.

Her earlier thoughts were of her being a prisoner. Someone kept her against her will as the only survivor and facing who knows how many horrific kinds of experiments.

And they only used her here in hopes she could stop the rampaging monster that Remira had turned into.

But to her surprise and the way the Doctor appeared subservient to her mother, things were a lot different than she had assumed.

No, there was still a chance of mind manipulation. There was a chance this was not her mother, but something else. These people were working on resurrection and magic. How does one know what they might have achieved?

They might have created her puppet for the same reason.

Various thoughts came to her mind. But for the moment she chose to keep her hand and sheath her weapon as the doors opened.

"If you had signed, none of this would have been necessary. But considering you killed them, you are strong enough to learn the truth." The Doctor said, his voice still grating to her ears, but she didn’t do anything to him, just staring at her mother without losing a moment, memorizing her face and aura in her mind.

Along with a smell that she hadn’t smelled in a long time.

Giving an illusion that she had given up.

But the moment the door opened, she shot. Her hand-made images as multiple rounds sounded out in the cave, startling the Doctor, who easily deflected the first two bullets, before the third one struck his magic shield, breaking it.

’Anti-magic.’

Remira had hidden the bullet among normal ones, confusing the doctor. Before using that moment of weakness to shorten her distance and then put her sword at his throat. "Thank you for showing me my mother’s face, one last time." She said as she looked toward the woman.

Who didn’t move an inch, looking at her "daughter" with some curiosity? "I am happy you maintain your suspicions to this point." She said as a doting mother before she gestured toward Remira. "Follow me, I have a lot of things to talk to you about." She didn’t care about the Doctor, or it would be more appropriate to say the man in Remira’s hand was not a doctor, to begin with.

He just fell to the floor after the Professor left the scene. Same as the one from before, this one was not real as well.

"What kind of magic is this?" Remira was confused.

’An undead using magic?’ In her eyes, this thing was dangerous, a remote-controlled body that can use magic must be a great tool for assassination. So what is someone capable of doing in this facility?

Is this really some doctor? Or just an act that would force one to put down their guard thinking he is some harmless Doctor?

Causing Remira’s face to twist with some anger, before she moved on from the scene.

This hallway was well-heated, there were lights and the wall would slowly drop down with each step.

That fake wall from before was not the only bar keeping the monsters away, there were some security measures done to this place.

"Who are you, really?" Remira asked. But the woman who claimed to be her mother just smiled. "I have told you the truth, before marrying your father, I was Rajara Lake, daughter of Baron Lake. As for now, I go by Professor Lake, while abandoning my old name in fear of pursuit."

"Name three things I hid from you as a kid but you found out."

"I never thought of being under investigation from my own daughter." the woman sighed, looking a bit disappointed, but her eyes gleamed with some pride.

Her daughter was not as naive as she had thought her to be. But this also proved that her daughter had gone through some harsh adventures for her to become like this.

"Let’s start with the most embarrassing one. I punished you for blaming your night accident on Jeremy."

"..."

"There is no need, I believe you for now." The moment Remira said these words the flames on her body disappeared, while she rushed from her position and hugged her mother from her back.

"I... I am sorry." She said as a tear flowed out of her eyes.
