Chapter 221: 4.03.5 Don’t get jumped again.
In this world, there was a lack of sane people.
Some are driven insane by their belief, some by their desires, some by circumstances, and some by their emotions.
It was almost fate for one to gain power while losing their sanity. And the only ones that can be considered sane were the powerless who had no say in the world.
One can think of it as a transaction, they gain power in return for corruption, whether it is physical or spiritual. Even a pure power like Remira’s was not immune to it. The proverb that power corrupts can never be proven wrong. There were no exceptions to it.
The Current Remira was like this, the power gave her arrogance, and she was confident to break through any obstacles thrown her way. All she prayed was that her actions didn’t scare her opponents and she found them before its too late.
A thought filled with arrogance, leaving Farhad on the back to freeze himself to death. But it would be hard to call her choice wrong in this case, the current Farhad was rendered as baggage and nothing more.
His mind was in chaos, and so was his body which released steam as it tried to heal the damage he suffered in the floor below.
It was easy to see that it would be hard for Farhad to recover in a small amount of time, as the body might be healed, but one can’t say so for the mind.
"Hah, she dragged him to death once again... wonder how much progress got lost this time." A figure in the dream world spoke as bits and pieces of his body turned to dust and flowed in a certain direction, supplementing the broken soul of Farhad, before he woke up in his body again.
"What is going on?" He wondered.
All he could recall was that he fought his kidnappers, before losing consciousness as his Captain came and struck him in the head. As for what happened afterward, he can’t remember.
He didn’t even know he had come to this dark and cold place, without the figure of his captain anywhere near him.
All he could do was feel the sounds of fighting that came from a certain direction. ’Is that captain?’ From the way he appeared unharmed, Farhad understood that his captain was definitely keeping whoever the enemies were at bay.
’Were they the kidnappers?’ He wondered, before shaking his head again.
"You, you are awake?" It was at this time, the figure of Gehena materialized from the darkness. Putting Farhad at guard he stood up ignoring the pain and took an offensive stance against her. "Another kidnapper?" He wondered as flames lit up in his hand. Dark flames with a green hue surprised Gehena.
"A mind that was broken is capable of speech so fluently? But it still seems there was some damage to your memory." Gehena had worked for this place for a long while and she knew how dangerous the Taboo on the third floor was. It was hell in her eyes and there was no one who survived that hell.
Even those with unbreakable bodies were never able to endure the corruption and fell to it, their body turning inside out along with their soul which shattered and returned to dust. Or so the mystics in the group had told her.
Unless one has the protection of a powerful being, it is next to impossible for one to survive that Taboo.
On the other hand, hearing Remira’s words, the mind of Farhad started to create multiple scenarios in his mind. His years of experience as that boy’s rat hadn’t gone anywhere, he knew how to fight and analyze information while facing an opponent. The fear of death won’t be enough to affect his rationality here.
’She seems to know me... did I forget something?’ He wondered. Then he recalled what he had learned in the dream and knew what might have happened.
"Miss, I am not an easy opponent and from the looks of it, my Captain is not far off from here. There is a high chance she would come here if you were to fight me." Farhad warned as the flames burned in his hand.
In truth, he wished for his threat to not work, he wished to fight this woman and rip her throat apart. It was almost an instinctual desire of his, or a part of him which he wished to suppress. It was why he warned her, hoping that his threats would save him a bit.
But it didn’t seem Gehena was in the mood for this to begin with. "No worries boy, I don’t intend to harm you. It’s your captain that we want. If you want, you can go right to the surface following those wires on the wall." With those words, her body disappeared into the darkness once again, leaving Farhad alone with the flames in his hand.
’Was it the truth?’ He wondered before a thought of how beautiful this woman was came to his mind.
He never expected an enemy to be as beautiful as her and from the looks of it, if he were to walk back, he might actually escape this place.
As for Remira? She was strong enough. From the sounds of it, she seemed to be thrashing the opposition. ’Being here would only force me to fight.’ He thought before choosing to accept the woman’s suggestion and walking into the path, following the wires as he was suggested to.
But the moment the flames in his hand disappeared, a shot was heard in the dark and a hole appeared on his forehead, causing him to fall down like a corpse.
"Fool," Gehena said as she walked out from the darkness. "Do you really believe I would let you go?" She thought as her sword severed Farhad’s legs, which she kicked to the side. "Stay here my lovely immortal boy. You will make a fine addition to the doctor’s collection." With those words, she planned to move toward Remira or the pieces of carnage that were left in her wake.
As for facing Remira herself?
She was in no mood for that. And besides, the gunshot had obviously reached her, and she might just make her way to this place. Giving Gehena ample time to collect some things for the Doctor.
But before that could happen, a hand grabbed her legs. "Got you." A weird smile appeared on Farhad’s face as his forehead smoked while the hole was filled in with meat.
A shiver went down Gehena’s head as a siren blared in her head. She knew something was wrong and she tried to escape Farhad’s grip, but it was too late already. A blaze of fire lit up in Farhad’s hand which burned the skin of Gehena.
"Bastard." By the time she was able to create some distance, it was already too late for a part of her leg.
"Fuck." She thought as she saw a huge chunk of her flesh was missing. While right in front of Farhad’s hand, a piece of her flesh was burning and melting right in front of her eyes, as the eyes of Farhad gave her a creepy vibe.
"As soft as I expected, much better than the one before." Almost as if he was drunk, he relished the feeling of her flesh that slowly got digested into his body, before he used the moment Gehena was shocked by Farhad’s action and rushed toward his cut feet, like a lizard on the ground.
"Good one." But ignoring the pain, Gehena aimed her gun at Farhad once again. This time, she was not going to shoot just one time.
And she did not. A hail of bullets rained on Farhad and each of them hit him without a single miss. This was the difference in realm, the moment she gained some advantage and understood her opponent, there was no chance for her opponent to retaliate.
But to her surprise, none of the bullets on his skull had much effect, as Farhad moved almost on instinct toward his feet, or at least his body.
But before he could reach there, a figure materialized from the dark and stepped on him. "He is like a headless chicken," Richard said, before turning to look at Gehena’s feet. "He is as vicious as one as well."
"Did you enjoy the show?" Gehena asked, as she took out a bandage and wrapped it around her feet, while Farhad kept squirming under Richard’s feet.
"Of course not, but you know, our surprise got ruined this way. That woman probably knows that there are two of us here. She won’t let us pick the riches she abandoned." If Gehena was to be considered the seducer, then Richard was more of a scavenger, his whole purpose was to collect the samples that might escape the lab or the newly awakened one on the surface.
"No worries, we were to face her anyway." Gehena was not annoyed by Farhad’s retaliation too much. Although surprised by him and his skills. This much was nothing. It can be considered a moment of weakness that Farhad took advantage of, otherwise, it’s impossible for him to truly harm him.
Making Remira still the prime target, while Farhad was more of a baggage like they had previously assumed.
But it didn’t mean she wouldn’t be angry with him.
"Remove his limbs, it would be bad if he jumped on us again." She was going to make him suffer. But now was not the time for it. Taking him out of commission and dealing with his captain was the priority.
"How long do you hope to hold her/" Richard asked and Gehena just smiled. "As much time as you want. She didn’t seem immune to my charms."
