Chapter 219: 4.03.3 Horrific realization.

Among the first of Jester’s enemies, if the Radiance Church were considered to be the first, then the church of Red Sun was not too far off.

To them, the whole existence of Jester was stained by their belief, a being of death that refuses to accept the sun while playing with the living.

It was blasphemy in their eyes and in the past, they have treated Kassandra a bit rudely when the word got out of Jester and her relations with him.

A past that Kassandra treated fondly as she grew up. The hardships molded her into what she was now, it forced her to make her own decisions and not be led by either the church or the Jester.

And she knew, that to fulfill her dream and exact her revenge, she had to request the help of these people that once shunned her.

Of course, they have done the same after they came to believe that Jester was dead, but to prove them wrong, she had followed some clues and reached Durum, before becoming a tower master there.

So after informing her old companions of the news that their attempt had failed, she ran from this place, she didn’t wish to face the knights of Red Sun on their doorstep, and knowing them, it wouldn’t be long before they began their hunt.

But it would seem, she was a bit late. She could feel the air on her back break apart, as someone closed in on him.

The knights?’ She wondered, before shaking her head. The actually strong knights were not so freely dispatched, like in any organization, there was a structure and bureaucracy, and there should be some time before they started their hunt. "Where are you running?" But this voice was obviously not of a Knight.

And no Knight knew any flight spell to begin with.

"Anna, my friend. It’s been a while." Kassandra said as she stopped in the air, before asking. "I wonder what business you have with me?"

It’s been a year since she was sent by the duke to hunt Kassandra, the stain on the Mage college. It is due to her betrayal that caused so much damage in the city, including Holforaz.

Or so the people had believed.

A year later, Anna was a lot different than before.

"I found traces of those clowns in Bothal." Anna has chosen to work with Kassandra while going against the orders of the Duke.

Although she still seemed to be hunting for Kassandra on the surface, her direction of search has long shifted toward the Jester., And after learning a few more details in the coming months, she understood that her opponent was a lot more sinister than she had earlier assumed.

And from what she had been able to gather from her sources, there were multiple sightings of the clowns in Qatpotal, before the city’s disappearance. The very island city where it was claimed that a God descended.

As for who and what happened there, she was still not sure, but from what she could ascertain. This being, this jester was forcefully reviving the forgotten gods. As for his purpose?

She can’t say for certain.

"I guess, you can finally ascertain that my words were true?" Kassandra asked after dropping into the field and standing under the shade of the tree.

"These still don’t absolve you of your crimes. But they give some reason for them, at least. With the proof I have, I believe that the Duke would pardon you, with some light punishments of course."

"Please Anna, we both know how bloodthirsty that creep is." Kassandra didn’t look fondly at the Duke of Wortham. To her, he was a hypocrite, a monster without a soul or emotion. He was the personification of Cynark souls, cold and ruthless. One who doesn’t mind killing countless innocents as long as they get closer to their goal of world domination.

Detested as he might be, Jester was still worlds better than Cynark and its leaders. The only reason she focused on Jester was due to her personal reasons and nothing else. He might be a morally bankrupt monster that messes with the minds of his victims, but in comparison to damage and misery alone, he can never match the war engine that is Cynark.

"And besides, we both know it’s impossible for me to go back to that boring life, I am in my element here. And don’t you feel free now that you are out?"

"Away from my research? Not really. After collecting some more concrete evidence, I plan to show my case to the Duke in two months at most. So I will be leaving in a while."

"Hmm! I had hoped you would stay a bit longer. Things would have been much easier in Bothal."

Hearing these words Anna became a bit worried. "Don’t be suicidal, there had been no news out of Bothal for the past week, who knows what is going on there? And there had been talks that their Legend woke up after some incident... it would be better to not visit that city for a while. Or someone like you or me would be caught in a jiffy."

Anna was not fear-mongering here. For those that enter Legend, the reason for their godly power is their domain which increases their senses to an inhuman limit and lets them see and detect anything in it, while also giving them the ability to teleport in that domain without any restriction.

Of course, there are restrictions and permutations.

Like beings with Anti-domain, who instead of opening their domain outward, they do it inward, inside their body. Although they lose the ability to teleport or detect their enemies in their domain, they gain something much different and even stronger in some cases.

Take the Duke of Wortham for example, his Domain is an outward one, but two diameters in length. Nothing compared to a domain that can cover entire cities.

But in that 1-meter domain, the Duke is almost immortal.

"I am not foolish enough to go there with my current identity."

"You are a mage, it’s very hard to hide it," Anna spoke, but she probably knew that Kassandra had something in her mind. "So to speak, what method do you have in mind?"

"I am just coming from Red Sun church... and I believe... we’ll talk of the devil, they are here." Anna said, looking toward the Knight who rushed toward the two almost like a phantom. And before he arrived, Anna had long worn a small mask that she conjured up through her magic, to hide her identity.

As for the Knight who floated as if he had no legs, she arrived at the scene with his sword ready to strike, while his eyes darted from Anna to Kassandra and after finally feeling the fluctuations of magic on Kassandra, he spoke. "Archmage Kassandra, the parish had called for your visit. And there is no need to worry, the parish won’t force you to answer for your crimes for the next three days. And I would suggest you agains..."

"Oh, they lead the way, I had been waiting for you."

The sword flashed in the dark as Remira pushed the Daugr to the floor, before using the chance to run deeper into the maze, while Farhad kept following her.

From what he could count, there had been a total of six Daugrs till now. All of them are as hard as steel and capable of using sword art like normal humans. Making them dangerous opponents if one got surrounded.

It was their slow speed and rigidity when alone that Remira was able to take them down easily after dealing with them, for a while. She was able to move and weave between their attacks before striking them down, which might not kill them. But would give Remira ample time to escape before they can get up.

This is how the last couple of fights have gone on.

And Farhad had started to feel a bit underwhelmed.

Once again, he found it a bit odd, it felt a bit too easy. It was as if there was manipulation at play here.

Like before, Farhad remained quiet. It’s not always good to call out the tricks of the enemy, as it is the same as giving away your advantage over them. Not to mention, like before, he can’t be sure if Remira knew about it or not.

’It might be this place that is the reason for influence. It’s not a curse, but it is affecting something.’ Farhad believed that this couldn’t be a curse or any power related to it. From what he understood, Remira was immune to curses as much as he was. But she was still being infected by the Taboo Power.

It was something he couldn’t understand. And due to his lack of knowledge, he can’t properly ascertain what it was.

But he could feel it, that whatever it was, it had something to do with this Mausoleum.

"Captain, what for a while." Farhad requested while he turned to look at the side of the wall. "What is it?"

"That wall." Farhad pointed his finger, before asking. "Can you melt it with your sword?" When he said those words, Remira didn’t as she was asked and Farhad could finally detect the oddity that had gone unnoticed.

The walls in this place were covered with ice and as it was dark, it was hard for them to make out what was written on them.

Under the suggestion of Farhad, Remira did as he asked.

Bit by bit, the water dropped, before a small stream formed below their feet, which had already started to freeze.

But Fahrad ignored it, he looked deeper and deeper until he suddenly stopped Remira by holding her hand. "Don’t..."
