Chapter 217: 4.03.1 Surrounded.

It was an old mausoleum that had been explored before, with its previous occupiers becoming the new protectors of this place.

One by one they appeared in Remira’s path, most barely having the strength of an apprentice and using weapons from old that didn’t even work most of the time.

With time, the rut sets in, the gunpowder turns wet, and the rest. No matter how powerful the curse was, it couldn’t affect the tools this undead used, and with most of its previous traps already taken out by the first explorers of this tomb, there was nothing stopping Remira.

To others, this tomb might be dangerous, or even confusing. But to Remira, who had ascended to Master Rank, it was all a confusing path whose answer was right in front of her eyes.

Even though the path looked the same whatever path she took, the wires and bulbs attached to them obviously followed a certain route. A route that was currently in use by the current owner of this place.

And they didn’t hide it, Remira knew that there was no need to leave such an obvious answer unless they never expected her to break the floor or it was what they had expected from the start.

"Captain, I think we should go back. We can try our hand at escaping from the main door." Something was eating away at Farhad’s mind. All of it felt too convoluted at the moment. He had a feeling of being led by their host. As if this is the path their host wanted them to take.

Not to mention, the Daugrs here were as weird as he had heard. They truly were capable of some intelligent movements, as if remembering the instincts from their past life. But these Daugrs were obviously not normal ones.

As Remira had pointed out before, these were probably a few decades old, a century at most. But nothing more than that.

Which would mean, there were people in the mountains even before whatever tragedy struck the village. And there is a high chance, this place was the origin of such a tragedy.

And from what he can tell, Remira was a victim of that tragedy. Even her name might be a lie. "They obviously want us to explore this place, they probably have a way to ensure that we never crawl out of this place. So let’s move while we still have some time." This was not the Grifter in his saying such words, these were the words of reasoning.

There is a thin line between recklessness and bravery. And from what he could tell, the current Remira was obviously driven by emotions and not reason, a sign of recklessness.

She had been riled up by the enemies, she wished to know the truth of what happened all those years ago. Something that Farhad might not be able to relate to as his whole existence is based on self-preservation, but he can tell that Remira didn’t treat life as a luxury.

But Remira’s question made Farhad shut his mouth."You think they will remain here after being exposed?" Hearing this, Farhad turned silent for a moment before answering. "No, I don’t."

He could have lied here, he could have said that they might be arrogant enough to treat them as air and keep doing whatever they were doing. But that was obviously not an answer, nor was it possible.

Remira was not a lonesome explorer, she was part of one of the strongest organizations on this continent.

With one word from her, this whole place will be raided by multiple master-level, and even Grandmaster level Knights, if the need arises.

"Not to mention, they know of my lineage, and considering what happened till now, they won’t leave us alone even if we were to somehow escape back to the surface. There is no point." The little emotion and humor Remira had died in the City of Durum.

She had come to face reality, she had learned how little she was in the grand scheme of things.

Remira has finally come to understand the meaning of Heaven above Heaven. There was always someone better than her, so she was not stupid enough to think that even with her strength that was reaching Grandmaster after unlocking her bloodline, she would be unharmed.

But knowing what kind of enemy she was facing, backing off now would make things much harder.

At least for now, she knows where to go and look for, but the moment she tries to escape, these people will harass her to no end.

So ending it here and now was much better, not to mention, she had to know the truth. Were these the people responsible for the disaster in her village all those years ago? And if not, who did it and why?

"Even if they know of your lineage and want some of your blood, it won’t matter anyways, haven’t you been baptized with the blood of Radiance?" Farhad said this line a bit loudly. It was his attempt to let the Doctor know that Remira’s blood held no value anymore, she had become part of Radiance.

It was the most potent bloodline to exist in this world, there were only two churches that matched the might of Blood of Radiance.

And it was rare for a far-off village to have a bloodline that would carry blood as potent as Blood of Radiance. There is no way for the Doctor to generate any profit even if he succeeds in getting his hands on her.

But even though his words sounded reasonable, Remira shook her head. "Just keep following me... and no more questions. Once the matter down below is over. I will help you."

There were some things that Remira couldn’t say, so she used the bargaining chip she had on her to shut up Farhad.

She had to make sure those bastards stayed below and didn’t escape through some hidden path.

Soon they came to what can be considered to be a small temple, with multiple empty coffins strewn around the area.

And when Remira hunched down to look at them deeply, she could somewhat ascertain that these might be the coffins of the true Daugrs. But with the amount of ice that was built up over the years on them, it was easy to see that they had been open like this for years.

"The markings are ancient, the language that I can’t even fathom," Remira said before looking toward Farhad, who was still confused by Remira taking such a suicidal approach to all of this. But he shook his head when looking at her face. "Nothing... I haven’t seen anything like this."

When Remira had asked such a question, Farhad wondered if she had really lived in the village that he was hearing so much about.

’Isn’t this the language of your people, why are you asking me?’ Was the true response he had in mind?

Knowing that there was no answer, Remira got up and then turned to look at a stone slab with a small metal handle on it.

This stone looked much cleaner and crispier than the rest, not to mention, next to the stone slab, there were a bunch of wires that dropped down into a small hole.

"Let’s go." With those words, Remira lifted the stone slab, exposing a new series of steps. Following her words, Farhad entered the place first, but before he could step in, his body was held back by her.

"Stop... I sense something dangerous." When she said those words, the sound of a few steps came from the dark below. "A dangerous one..." She said while pushing Farhad to her back, her aura changed again and she flipped her sword, aiming toward the figure which came bearing a scowl on his dried face.

Covered in metal armor that has melted into his flesh and thin white hair. The being that stood in front of her was not as Rigid as the few Daugrs she had met before.

This one was tall, much taller than the ones before, wielding a hammer made out of stone in his hand. "Intruder, back... now!" With those words, the hammer fell on Remira. Who timely used her sword to save her head from turning into crushed melon.

But the force of the strike did push her back a little.

"This is a true one." Remira knew that this was one of the true Daugrs, even the weapon it held shone with runic light, probably a mage craft equipment.

"Farhad, back as much as you can, while maintaining your line of sight," Remira said, as she readied herself for the opponent.

But before she could start her offensive, sounds of stone being moved came from all over the labyrinth.

Followed by multiple Daugrs climbing out of them and slowly closing in on Farhad and Remira.

"I said before, a trap." Farhad did regret not being able to change his Captain’s mind. But when things progressed to this point, all he could do was ready himself for the battle.

Between which, he would "accidentally" unlock those corpse flames once again and see what happens when those flames touch these cold undead.

But before he could do such a thing, Remira suddenly smiled. "Finally, is this your full force?" Remira asked in the darkness, but there was no response again, it would seem that the sound transmitter was only around the floors above, not here.

"Because if this is it, then you are already dead." As she said those words, Remira rushed to the closest Daugr, while shouting. "Farhad, don’t you dare fight."
