Chapter 195: 3.14.5 Time to come out.

Not all people belonging to the Bastard Bears lost their sanity. Generally, it depended on the blood concentration, and the higher it was, the stronger the aggression some from their clan would show.

Making it so, that the more one is blessed with the stronger blood, the more volatile they would be. With only a few exceptions throughout history who were able to hail in that insanity.

The reason for this was also apparent, the more they got angry, the stronger power they would gain. And for most, it was easy for them to lose themselves while being drunk on power.

It was why those who could control their strong blood were hailed as princes in the family, no matter if they were from a branch or the main family, which was why Salvarez was considered one.

He was alone in his generation to show control during his transformation and hence had gained the right to live among the common populace of Bothal, due to how harmless he was, unlike most of his other family.

But now?

Now the case was different.

"This is no time for that old discussion... focus on sealing him to prevent any further losses," Red said, knowing full well the history Blue had with Salvarez. A fact that he had pointed to his boss, but he just ignored it. Saying that his understanding of Salvarez will be an asset and Blue will be able to keep his personal emotions out of his decisions.

This was true to some extent, but Blue still couldn’t help but curse at the mad beast in front of him.

"You just focus on constantly increasing the weight on his body, I will freeze him up." Blue was not an elemental mage, but a transmutation mage who had mastered various curious tricks up his sleeve to attain the same combat ability as one.

Case in point the icy wind that he released from his hand. A hand in which a small fireball was forming.

A curious spell that drained the temperature from the environment and turned the air icy cold, instead of directly creating the ice through mana.

But even with the support of Red, a transmutation mage on his own, with the power to modify the aspects of items. Like turning them light or heavier through mana.

Tremors ran through the ground, something was slamming and trying to claw itself out of the cage that was created for it.

"Freeze faster, the people have been evacuated," Red ordered, knowing that while the weight over Salvarez’s body increased and the seal on his body got stronger. So did Salvarez.

If they can’t overpower him before he escapes, things will be harder. It was through Gaityonde’s little act that Red was able to jump in for a sneak attack. Something that won’t work twice considering the nature of their enemy.

They had to stack weight and strengthen it before he could escape.

And Blue did that as well.

He was limiting his power due to the fear of harming the environment because if he were to drag all the fire from the environment, many close to him would have frozen to death.

But knowing that no one was close anymore, he increased the intensity of the spell, causing the roars and tremors to slow down bit by bit.

"Seems like we are close to succeeding." Red took a sigh of relief but didn’t forget to strengthen his spell to increase the weight over Salvarez’s body.

And Blue was also happy about it. Although the family that came to live there wasn’t harmed as of yet, Salvarez still killed loads of police officers, a total of seventeen in total.

An act way more heinous when compared to the little strike-and-run tactics of the assassin.

Not to mention, these are just people he can see currently. Who knows how many others are dead in the area?

But it was at this time, when they were just feeling calm, the sound of the vibrations that came from the ground changed.

"??"

It took only a second before the two were horrified to find out. "He is digging through the ground."

This was a mountain covered with only a thin layer of dirt, most of it was still hard rock that supported the mountain’s foundation.

"Red, move out of the way," Blue shouted, as the ground in front of Red exploded while an ice-covered naked Salvarez crawled out of it. No, with all that fur, there was barely any human aspect noticeable anymore.

He really looked like a giant bear at this moment.

"Move away."

"You..." Knowing that he might be harmed, Red took out his pistol and fired two rounds, breaking one of his kneecaps of Salvarez and giving red time to back off.

"This bastard." The pistol in his hand was an enchanted one, but the impact and force it generated were due to Red’s magic.

By multiplying the weight, durability, and momentum of the bullet, it was finally able to hold the giant beast, which was much stronger than before.

Of course, Red didn’t use his full strength. If he had wanted, a strike with all his power in his hand to Salvarez’s head would be enough to incapacitate him, with a high chance of Salvarez dying.

Which went to show how the modern tools were much stronger than the tools from the past. A Bastard bear might have been dangerous in olden times when spells and swords were used.

Making him a nightmare for those who faced it.

But what if there was something like a gun?

Of course, not everyone can pull something like this, not even Blue who looked at Red with a hint of jealousy, knowing that if he had mastered such magic, his dream of defeating Salvarez would have been fulfilled long ago and he wouldn’t have to use all these tricks at this moment.

"He is too volatile, holding back won’t help," Blue complained as Salvarez healed his injury in just a few seconds. But if this injury was caused on his head, then things might have been different.

But Red just shook his head in denial. "The gun still works, this will be our backup, just focus on holding him down for now."

Even though he didn’t know who Salvarez was as a person, he still hoped to capture Salvarez without harming him. Or at least keeping his mind intact.

So shooting was never an answer, a destroyed brain was not going to help him in his investigations.

Even if he can’t get him alive, he needs Savalrez’s mind intact, through which he might be able to extract some useful memories.

So shooting him in the head was the last thing he wanted to do.

"Be stubborn, let’s see where that leads us," Blue complained again, not hiding his dislike for Salvarez, but he still did as Red asked and suggested. Acting subservient while battling Salvarez, hoping to weaken him.

Unlike all the claims he had made to the police chief.

If things went the way they were not, he knew Red might succeed at his plan.

But he didn’t worry about it at all, for he knew about Salvarez, or at least the Salvarez on the battlefield which he fought against.

Salvarez was close to being defeated again as his stamina was running low and Red was close to success due to his constant use of guns and his spells.

It was then that it happened.

Smoke bombs exploded all around the place, as dark figures appeared from the side of the mountain.

Easy moving in sync as they attacked Blue and Red together.

"Ambush!" Red shouted as she shot at his enemies, taking out one of them, while he backed off and tried to get together with Blue.

*****

"It’s time." Looking at the dark figures that were running through the smoke, he knew this was the point he had to act.

Were these people here to help Salvarez?

Of course not, he had already obtained enough information from the Jester and from his own personal experience, he knew who they were.

"The company is here." The very people that took his daughter from him have finally shown themselves.

As for their goal? He didn’t know.

But it was obviously nothing good. And considering the target he had to protect, who couldn’t tell any difference between a companion or enemy, it was safe to say his own job was going to be a hard one.

Weaving between such powerhouses and those monsters was going to be hard. And as he lacked his old dagger, this is going to be harder. As the current dagger in his hand might not be able to penetrate the shields of these people.

But Max didn’t worry too much. He was not the old him anymore.

Not were the tools in his hand as simple as they looked.

As the vitality of the broken tree emptied out, Max transformed his body into something he felt more familiar with.

His own physique with a blank face.

There would be no need for a mask anymore.

With those thoughts, he rushed into the battlefield, ready to annihilate all these little bastards sent from the company.

And unlike last time, where he got overpowered and barely defeated just one of them. This time, he won’t let that shame repeat again.

But before he could actually show his face on the battlefield.

A fiery figure suddenly materializes in a similar manner as Max from one side of the road, next to the cemetery.

A woman with ethereal flames who wielded multiple phantom blades around her body.

"She?"

A woman that Max identified all at once.

A woman he had trained for years under his wing.

And the very woman who helped him escape that old life filled with killing.

"Fahna, you finally showed yourself."
