The God of Jesters
Chapter 172 - 3.10.5 Kidnapping.

Chapter 172: 3.10.5 Kidnapping.

Which it won’t, or so I hoped. Because Max still had someone to protect. And this was not a fight he could handle anyway.

But he didn’t speak or think at this moment anymore. Neither did I give him any more suggestions after entering the house.

Whether he planned to get to the treasure or not, of it depended on him from this point on. With silent steps that went undetected by the inhuman level of security that was deployed in this house. The naked thief soon saw the family who had owned this house for generations.

They were human, which was out of his expectations. It was rare to see rich humans that were served by Dwarfs in this country. They were rare and most of them were foreign businessmen that never had any roots in this city to begin with.

Which was why their appearance was a bit of a shock to Max. Though, one can blame it on the fact that he had never considered humans to be involved in this case, at all. To him, this whole conspiracy had a xenophobic aspect to it. He considered the Dwarves to be the ones targeting humans.

So seeing someone with a Surgeon’s identity being human. He can already imagine various scenarios where a man abandoned his own humanity for money, or for his family.

He took out his blade, seemingly wanting to kill the old couple who were silently eating dinner in the absence of any guard or the rest of the family. They laughed and talked about everyday life, talked about how they hated their son-in-law and how lonely their daughter was.

Hearing this, Max chose to spare them.

He can’t get distracted, not now at least.

Using the senses he had developed with years of training, he used sight, sound, and smell to predict the movements of the servants and kept out of their sight, before soon reaching his targeted location.

A private room, no matter how protected the manor was, the owners could still afford some privacy in this place, they preferred to have their room to themselves and rarely ever let others enter it.

Meaning, that as long as Max could enter the room of the couple, he would be free to act as long as others didn’t enter after him. But the problem was entering the room itself.

He can feel a gaze that was spread throughout the first floor where the majority of the family lived and slept. This was why all the gates were always under tight scrutiny by the second Master level knight that was protecting the house from the dark.

Making it almost impossible for him to enter the room willy-nilly. Any unnatural movement on the door would surely attract attention and ruin his whole plan. But he had come this far and there is no turning back. He needs to get some money and a finger, no matter what.

But who would have thought, while Max was in his thoughts, the boy who was meant to be his target came running down the hallways while laughing in joy.

"Kess, hide... mummy is coming." A voice filled with gentleness resounded in the hallway, While Max looked at his target. A boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. He looked like a beautiful little angel, as he smiled.

A face that causes his determination to falter a bit, almost making him have second thoughts. But soon, he recovered it soon after, while thinking of his own blood as well as the various victims that have appeared in the city due to the actions of these inhuman people.

He can’t let it continue, and he will stop them, no matter the sacrifice required. He won’t mind even if innocents are implicated in it, as long as he can achieve his desired result. As for what that result was, Max didn’t know that himself. In his mind, the idea of killing all those involved hasn’t changed much since the start.

All that changed in the way to achieve that goal.

"Mummy! mummy!! Don’t ... let me hi...hide first." The boy said, opening his grandparent’s door and entering it.

Giving Max the chance he was looking for, he followed after the boy and soon disappeared into the room as well.

’A lucky coincidence?’ He wondered for a bit, before shaking his head in denial. There was no way this could be a trap, and there was no way they would use their own child for such a thing. And if they were so adamant that Max might fall into this trap, they would have done a clean sweep of the house beforehand by now, which would have made it harder for him to hide.

Meaning, it was truly a coincidence, no matter how odd and timely it was.

An opportunity given to him by fate and chance to easily complete this mission, without much effort required on his side.

So he looked at the boy, who unaware of Max’s existence, slowly hid under the bed. The very same place where the boy’s grandmother had a habit of hiding her box of jewelry. Meaning, that the only way for Max to fail is if the mother finds her son faster than he expects her to. And from what he knows, it won’t be long before she enters this place.

’A minute at most.’ He thought to himself, before his body touched the lamp on the side of the bed, causing it to shake and startling the boy who turned his attention toward the lamp.

Giving Max enough time to drag the box out and then break the lock on it with his glass dagger and then look at the contents.

’Fuck.’ He thought to himself while swallowing whatever it was in the box into his stomach, right under the horrified gaze of the boy, who was already looking at Max from under his bed.

And then he screamed.

"Gh...GHOST!!" His cry was followed by Max, picking up the body of the boy and dragging him into his bosom, while the gate door burst open with guards. One of them exuded the strength of a master.

"Let go of the young master. And I might just give you to the police." He threatened, having no thought of actually following up on his promise, as the man was ready to kill Max at this point since the start.

And even if he can’t see Max, he can ascertain that the kidnapper was probably a human, from the height he was holding the young master, as well as the little bit of wrong light refraction that was caused by the scales on his sides.

"A master level? Hoho... no one told me that there was someone of your level here." Max started with his words, looking at the man while his scales turned gray before the eyes of the guard, exposing Max’s lizardman form.

’"Listen to me, I am only here for some money... and nothing more. Go and get some for me, or the neck of this little kid snaps." Max said in a cold voice.

"You let go of Kess... he is just a kid."

"And I want to feed my kids... so go lady, if you don’t want your kid to reach heaven." Max was in a full mood at this moment. He was a tad bit disappointed with what he found in the box. But it didn’t stop him from making the best of his predicament. "Money now, better if it’s jewelry. Go or.."

As Max threatened, he let go of the mouth of the kid, who started to cry and beg for his mother’s help. Causing her to order the maids that have appeared by her side to bring whatever Max wanted.

Causing the guard to say, "You will regret this." He was truly angered, never in a million years he would have thought something of this nature would happen right under his nose. How would he be able to answer his employer?

How much would his master be disappointed?

Certain kinds of thoughts, ended up causing the mind of the dwarf to heat up, causing flames to eject out of his hair as well as the rest of the body.

"Don’t transform in front of me, I don’t joking." As Max said these words, he finally cut the finger he was ordered to, Causing the woman to panic, and then beat her on the shoulders of the dwarf who was activating his bloodline.

"Stop you bastard." She cried, forcing the dwarf to come under control, before looking at her bleeding son, who had lost consciousness due to all the shock.

"My lady, I see you as the most sensible one in this group of incompetent fools. Good choice on stopping your dog."

"But I would appreciate it if you could bring some precious stones before my eyes. And don’t think, I don’t know how there is another Master-level Knight, who might be ready to jump into this room from the Window."
