Chapter 151: 3.06.1 She is back.
A failure was just a failure, it was never the end.
Failing also meant an opportunity to learn and better themselves. Find the lacking parts of their methods and try to rectify them before a fight. However, all of that requires time.
Currently, the people who pursued the giant bear-like dwarf only followed intending to map out the moves and find where he was hiding, there was no intention to fight as they had suffered a failure not too long ago. Not to mention, their resources at hand won’t match up with the threat that Salvarez posed to them.
Making their pursuit done only for intelligence and nothing more.
But as it happens, their moves were under the tight watch of their targets, they had been eyed by them for a while. And Fahna who seemed to meld in the darkness was long aware of their pursuit.
Wanting to end them became her priority when she understood what their goal was from the distance they had maintained till now.
"Kill or capture?" She asked Salvarez, who just shook his head. "No answer will be given, killing would also not look good, it’s better to break their legs." With those thoughts, Fahna disappeared, while Salvarez moved around, leading them on a goose chase.
It was not long before their pursuit ended.

"You say Krotal acted weird?"
"His driver did. Scared and a bit disturbed by a human driver. And it was not by some prejudice."
The night for the two was mostly uneventful, but a lot did happen in the city. But due to the lack of details about the assassination attempt, two after some light talk, with Max confirming that Sheva was not the one leading the attack, he shifted the topic.
Or one might say, Sheva gave up the oddness of Krotal Smeltver. Which piqued Max’s interest. Though this confirms nothing, at least it was something. They were looking for a direction and Krotal’s oddity was a sign of where they should be looking at.
"Infamous for running away from home and ending up in hospital one way or another. An extreme junkie, unlike his father." With those words, Max put his name on the board and then placed Krotal’s father next to him.
"Krugal Smeltever, the transport manager, has a habit of personally overseeing when the raw materials for processing arrive." In his list, this man was way below the list of suspects. The post of a transport manager itself carried too many responsibilities, making it next to impossible for him to oversee or back the gangsters in any way. Which is the reason why he was at the bottom of his list. But considering the words that Sheva spoke and the fact that he had no other lead at the moment.
It meant that going after Krugal wouldn’t harm much anyway. Something was better than nothing.
"Did you see the driver? Why was the kid scared of him?"
"The man did look a bit odd. Unemotional and appearing more like a professional bodyguard with the build he had, instead of a normal driver." At those words, the eyes of Max shoved bright for a while, before a smile appeared on his face. "Good find." He said, before saying. "You keep watch on the driver instead of the kid. If I am not wrong, his background might just be as you expected. While I will keep an eye on Krotal’s father."
"But do bring a self-defense weapon, a revolver will do. Nothing big that might attract any attention, there are too many worried eyes in the city at the moment and your odd size makes you a target."
"Is this about yesterday’s assassination attempt?"
"Yes, I might not know the full details of the events. But humans were involved and any human carrying something big enough to hide a weapon of that caliber would be questioned." Max said, but Sheva just smirked and retorted.
"It would happen even without it, they would question every human using the same excuse, so bringing it with me doesn’t change much... but I understand what you mean. I will hide from their eyes."
"If possible, then do so. If not, leave the weapon in a hiding space and come back for it afterward." Snipers were useful, if not for damage, then the very fact that they could keep the enemy occupied due to their shots would bring big help during his fights. And he was going to fight stronger people, and with the way the blood in his body was boiling these days, it won’t be long before he can take Master level Knights head-on.
But a bit of support goes a long way and if it can make his life easier, then there won’t be many worries. Even if he has to lie to Sheva for it.
"Then I will be leaving."
*****
An old tribal village lit up like fire in the moonlit night, as a girl ran from house to house, looking for help. But all she found whenever she opened the door were the dead.
Screaming and crying, there was no one alive in this village anymore. The blood flowed from the homes of the dead and made a bubble on the streets, which was trampled by the panicked woman.
But no matter how she cried, no one was left alive in this village. None were to hear her cries and none were to come and help her. She was left alone in this village, left alone with everyone she knew, now dead.
Leaving the girl no choice but to walk into the dark forest where the light of the moon never reached.
Following the footsteps that had slowly disappeared into its darkness.
Holding a sickle. She walked to her doom.
It was then that Remira opened her eyes. Her blood-red eyes appeared to contrast with her pure white hair.
All the scars and mutations had long disappeared from her body, making her appear as a Snow maiden. A snow spirit famous in the mountains.
But she was no spirit, she was just as beautiful as one. But no matter how long it goes, she can’t get used to this look, her face and body have entirely changed. The muscles she had cultivated after hours of practice were no more, nor were there any signs of physical training.
As feeble as a noble girl who had not seen the world, this is what the first impression of Remira would be if someone were to meet her. Which was far from the truth, as she was a monster that even the Radiant Hall kept under the illusory shackles, keeping her in check.
While only allowing her to move into their headquarters and nowhere else.
A process that might go on for years considering the danger the current Remira possessed.
"How did last night go?" Every week there was a psychiatric evaluation of Remira. And each time the man who came to question her was the same. A young mystic by the name of Jasper.
"Same dream of a girl running in a dead village."
"Did you enter the forest this time?"
"Not yet, the dream keeps breaking before it." When the focus on the dream shifted, Remira talked about her regular life in the headquarters and how empty it was.
Most of the training equipment was useless for her and most of the Knights barely put up a fight against her. Her physical abilities have far exceeded that of a master Knight, but still not reached the level of a grandmaster, hence causing much of the frustration.
"At least you have started to somewhat control your strength, which is much better than a month ago when you broke Gregory’s bones."
"A small mishap."
"You playfully tapped on his shoulder. He had to be deployed in two days, and Iqbal was forced to take his place." At those words, Remira felt a bit embarrassed but didn’t retort like she generally did before.
"Anyways, today, I am here to speak of some good news." Hearing these words, the eyes of Remira bubbled up and she asked. "They are finally allowing me to visit the city?"
"No, much better... you are back on the field. So enjoy the last days of peace while you are here."
*****
"You gave her a green card? Jasper, we still don’t know the nature of her bloodline, letting her go out like this..."
"She still has the blood of Radiance in abundance, a lot more than any of us here. And for one reason or another both the blood are coexisting together. Which is enough assurance."
"The other blood still made her go berserk in the Sleeping disaster of Durum, meaning the deity behind it might not be so kind. We have to make sure of its origin."
"What do you want me to do? I tried my methods. The deity keeps barring her from entering the forest. Hiding itself in the foliage."
"Hmmm,.. At least this confirms one thing. It’s a deity that is awake in the present day and not a sleeping one."
