Chapter 150: 3.05.06 Sweet little lies.

Looking below, Fahna didn’t know why Salvarez was talking to this man. The longer it takes, the more he will be surrounded, and with a body that big, it would be harder and harder to hide him for a long time.

And even if they succeeded in escaping, there was a high chance that someone would actually end up following Salveraz, someone capable of tracking, and exposing her safe house. But she chose to believe in Salvarez. The only reason he fell for the previous trap and was forced to sleep in hospital was due to the sudden nature of it, he never expected something like this to happen.

Unlike now, where his eyes carry uncertainty as he reads the paper handed by the shivering officer who acted as the messenger who gave him the papers.

"Do you believe it now? There is nothing to lie here. Chief is just worried that something bad might happen if they kept you alone in this state." Gaitoynde explained before smoking a cigarette. "Look at them, how scared they are..." He pointed at his men, then at the hospital staff and some of the common public who had family members admitted to this hospital.

"I can understand their fear," Salvarez spoke before smiling. "Sadly, I can’t read this paper clearly in this darkness, so I call your claims bullshit, Senior Officer Gaitoynde." He can read it fine, the eyes of the Knights were sharp enough for that. And Gaitoynde knew this as well. Which was why he knew that Salvarez was just bullshitting.

This was his way of letting Gaitoynde know that he wouldn’t be following up on the request of their seniors. "So if you please make a way for me, I wish to leave here without making any unnecessary problems."

Hearing those words and how amicable Salvarez appeared, it can be seen that he hasn’t learned the truth yet. And whoever the intruder was that entered his room had kept the details hidden. There was a high chance that even the intruder didn’t know the truth, considering how fast the police went hush under the order of the Police chief. Leaving many wandering over what actually happened there.

Meaning, there was a chance to misdirect this man, or so Gaitoynde thought. "Detective, if you wish to leave, I won’t be stopping you. But I would let you know one thing before you leave." With those words, without much worry, Gaitoynde walked close to Salvarez, who had put up a guard already. He could smell the people slowly surrounding his position, though the aggression didn’t seem as heavy as he had expected.

So there was still some time before his escape became impossible. "Stop, not any step closer."

"Are you sure? It’s a personal matter and I don’t wish for anyone behind me to learn of this fact." Gaitoynde was a trashy cop, the amount of "accidental loss of evidence" that happened in his hands including those who worked under him was too much.

But this also made it so he had loads of connections to some powerful people, which helped him stabilize his position in the police force. There was a reason why a Master rank Knight like him was a senior officer in the police force. And one sought by many as an ambassador to events that regularly happened in some political parties and rallies.

He was even called into the school to teach students about being a good person due to his popularity. But Salvarez didn’t like him one bit, nor did he completely believe the words of this man.

"Speak." At those words, Gaitoynde nodded, knowing that if this man didn’t mind it, then no worries. And besides, none of the Police in the hospital actually knew what had happened with Gaitoynde’s family.

Accidentally, they were all given a two-week paid vacation by their police chief, while he handled the matter on foot.

"If you wish to learn... then I would suggest against going back to your family. You were not the only one attacked..."

Before he could complete his sentence, a heavy pressure covered the area. Making the breathing of the officers that were holding the guns to turn labored. Confused over what happened. It didn’t take them long to know the reason for it.

As the calm and collected Salvarez started to fidget, as he asked. "Who attacked my family?" his body showed some growth, and the gown that he wore started to stretch and rip as the anger of Salarez started to drown the area in fear.

Which was all under Gaitoynde’s expectation. This is what his chief has feared, when Salveraz takes off his mask of control and gives in his rage, only the arch-level figures would be able to stop him.

An event that none looked forward to. A simple and quick death of Salvarez would be much better as it would not attract the eyes of powerful people.

People that the company was still not ready to face as of yet. Hence the reason they had to shut off this time bomb that wa Salvarez. Make him disappear from this world.

"No need to be so rowdy, let me complete my words." Gaitoynde coughed, to attract Salvarez’s attention and force him out of his imagination. "Your family is fine, but it’s the Police chief’s family that has been attacked instead... a fact that not many know. And in return, the family of all those involved in this case had been put in hiding."

"..."

"Tell me where."

"If I knew, then the whole purpose of witness protection wouldn’t have existed. Just wait for a few weeks in the hospital, when you return to normal, the chief will arrange for you to meet them." Gaitoynde spoke with a curious smile.

Hearing these words, the boiling Salvarez finally calmed down, his reddish eyes reverting to their normal brown color while steam came off his body he turned small once again. "No.. no need. Just keep them safe. I will be coming back to the chief after I return to normal." With those words, Salveraz jumped like a titan, causing several cracks on the ground, as he flew into the air, escaping the encirclement.

Leaving Gaitoynde and the rest of the police in a single jump.

Of course, if Gaitoynde wanted, he could order the police to look for this man. But now was not the time.

Things were already too far gone and most of the plan had failed the moment Salvarez awakened. So a bit of improv was needed here, and buying some time.

Unless someone comes in with the truth of his family, his lie would be enough to force Salvarez to not look for his family in the next two weeks.

Which gives ample time to his associates to end the man before he becomes a threat.

And in a way, Salvarez’s escape has just made the situation a lot easier.

Before, they were scared of the media and questions that might be asked if something happened to Salvarez. But now?

He escaped on his own, there was no way for the police to protect him and if he ended up dying, then it wouldn’t be that problematic anyway, nor would anyone question their competency.

Let him escape to his death, if that’s what he wants.

"You guys have been awake for too long, go home and rest. There is no more security needed here." Gaitoynde ordered his men, before throwing his cigarette aside. And then lighting up another one.

Looking forward to the death of a man he once considered a friend.

That was until he slowly learned how the world works."Sorry, my friend."

A fight that Fahna expected never to happen. All this time, she was waiting on the side, waiting for any slip that might cause the fight to break out. She looks at a perfect target while mapping out the area to make her escape.

But with few words, Salvarez was let go. There was no fight and most of the officers also backed off.

Not to mention, Salvarez didn’t go mad in anger. Which would only mean that the fact of his family’s death had been kept secret to him. ’Good’ She thought to herself.

The moment he goes berserk would be needed in the future, but as it was a one-time card. She didn’t want it to go to waste too early.

So she will tell him the truth one day, but not today and not now.

"The streets are empty?" Salvarez wondered while jumping from roof to roof, landing in front of Fahna who was waiting for him. "Everyone has been scared of the assassination attempt on you. A new experience for many of the public."

"Yes... this city hasn’t seen much conflict. Ever so protected."

"For now, lead the way, I don’t think this is the hiding place you have found for me?" Asked Salvarez. And Fahna nodded. "There should be some in your pursuit, I plan to deal with them first before going there."

"Hmm, so you noticed?... I didn’t mention it before, but your skills don’t match that of your father."

"Who taught you?"

"... A good man."
