Chapter 152: 3.06.2 He is back as well.
It was a night to remember. Sad for Remira, she can only recall a few scenes from the disastrous event.
The last she recalls was getting captured by the hateable woman, who beat her into a bloody pulp. Everything that happened after it was a hazy memory, which she was barely able to recall.
But one thing she didn’t forget was the calling. "Come, your mother is waiting for you." Words that almost felt too fantastical. She had known what happened to her mother, she can even recall the moment she died. So why do these words keep echoing in her mind?
Safe to say, there must be a reason for it, for a Knight’s mentality is hard to break and if they remember something bizarre as this, then it might just hold some value. Who knows if the wolf that possessed her was the one doing this to drag her into a trap? Or were the words of this wolf genuine?
"I can leave now?" Alone in her room, she looked at the mirror as she asked this question to herself. Before shaking her head and picking up the dye that she requested from the Quartermaster. Her face which has seen some bone reorganization can’t be reverted to the original unless she used some mystical methods or surgery. Both of which she was against.
But her hair, which was white as snow, was something she could fix. After cutting them short, she used a special dye that not only turned her hair back to its original dark sheen but also suppressed the small fluctuation of mana it had started to give since she woke up.
A sign that she was not in control of her powers, but this was to be expected considering how rapid her increase in strength was. A bizarre occurrence in itself, which the other Grand Knights have called a miracle.
Hence the reason why, even with an anomalous existence of living with two bloodlines, she was treated kindly by the Radiant Knights. Some lower-ranked ones have even worshiped her as a second coming of the First Knight.
A kind of popularity that Remira didn’t mind at first. But now, things are different.
After her preparations were done, she once again met with Jasper. Who had come to check up on her one last time?
"Dyed your hair? Good." He spoke as he entered the room and sat down before her. "I see that you have put in a request to go to your hometown. Want to learn the origin of your bloodline?" He asked, to which Remira could only nod. "It’s something I have to do eventually. So why not make it the first thing I do?" She said with a sad smile.
Before Jasper sighed. He had expected this. Even he was confused over the origins of these bloodlines.
Drischals the one-eyed wolves. They were a hated group of tribes hailing from the northern parts of the Cynark kingdom, due to their beastly nature and a habit of hunting down the "corrupt". Which made them incompatible with the Nobility, who pushed them all to their hometown.
Which in a way explains that the One-eyed wolf is not evil, and a good totem at least.
But the issue appears over the action of this totemic deity. Able to overpower the blood of Radiance and take control of Remira. This was an unprecedented issue. A first of its kind, which might even signify that their blood was weakening.
If not for the high concentration of Radiant blood that flowed inside Remira. The Retired Knights that were currently running the Radiant Church might have to go down below to check up on "him".
"Remira, I think you should know one thing before you go," Jasper spoke, attracting Remira’s attention, who was wondering the true reason why she was called here.
A fool she was not, she knew that there was a reason why she was held in the headquarters for so long.
And as she expected, the truth came out of Jasper’s mouth. "Some of the Knights already went to your old village and even your home..."
"... Is this why I was being kept here for so long?"
Jasper went silent and nodded. "We have confirmed a few things, among which was that the blood that blossomed during the sleeping crisis was the same as your innate one. No outside interference."
"And how did you confirm it?" As Remira asked this question, the face of Jasper turned a bit perturbed. "Exhuming the remains of your dead family member. Just one did the trick."
Intense reaction and anger were visible on Remira’s face, even the dye that covered her air seemed to burn, exposing the white glow beneath them. A reaction was witnessed by Jasper with a calm face.
An expected reaction when hearing a confession of such nature. But Remira, as fast as she turned angry, Remira returned to her calm. "I... I understand."
She was a Knight trained in Radiant Church. Emotions are weaknesses when it comes to investigation. As long as innocents are not harmed, the Knights are allowed to do anything to achieve their goals.
Which Remira had done herself multiple times. So, even if she found this disturbing, she was still a bit sad to learn of this detail.
But then, her mind worked in overdrive, before she asked. "How? During the undead crisis, everyone awoke as an undead, I saw my great-grandfather kill my cousin. The area was sealed by Cynark after being bombed for seven days straight, nothing exists there besides rubble and ruins."
"Well, you can read it on this report, as it turns out to be helpful in your own investigation. But before you leave, there is one thing I wish to inform you about."
"What is it?"
"There will be someone else coming with you."
"I expected it, and I would appreciate such help."
"He is not someone you might expect... Well, he is a newbie to our great organization. But he holds a part of it in his heart."
"And truth be told, he is a bit more bizarre than you. Many in the organization didn’t even agree with his acceptance and some even intended to kill him the moment he stepped his foot in the hall."
"Who is he?" Hearing such words, even Remira was curious about who this person was. But Jasper was not going to ruin her surprise so easily.
But he did say a few words. "He is someone you know."
******
I will kill you.
I will destroy you.
I will remove your existence from this world.
This is what I promised myself on that day my father died.
Coming here was not a fluke. The overbearing sister who hides her true intentions was not here anymore And my mother, although kind, was not so involved in my life. In her mind, giving me freedom was the right thing to do. Which gave me the excuse to leave the surveillance of me that had kept an eye on me for various reasons.
Protection it was not, they had turned my home into jail. And the thought of killing these disguised rats had appeared in my dreams multiple times.
A thought that was alien to me before. But now, I seem to enjoy certain fantasies which might have disgusted me before.
But I won’t ever act on it, I know for sure why I have such thoughts and why my personality shifted.
It’s all due to that bastard and I know for sure he is alive. Because no one else but he will send me those things. Bastard even succeeded in dragging my sister away from my home. And I was too foolish to not notice it before.
While my sister, being the fool she is, will end up dying in his hand or worse, turned into something like me.
A man who can walk in the sun, can’t take any food, nor smell anything besides flesh. A cursed existence that seemed to be bred for killing.
Even if I hate my sister, I can’t let her die. She is the only one now that can carry on our bloodline, so she has to survive. She has to live past me and grow old, not turn into something as inhumane as me.
It was why I was here, to seek help from people that my father didn’t like. But I know the truth now, I know what happened and who this flame of Samadhi originates from.
"You are a lot more courageous than your father, coming here to return that flame like this."
"It’s not for nothing, I want help to hunt down the one called Jester... and from what I learned from Captain Vance, you guys have dealt with him before."
"... Guess Vance did say a lot more than he was allowed to."
"It’s not his fault, I had that demon in my head. I know most of the things he knew and he considered the captain, one of his toys."
"You say you had some of his memories?"
"Yes, that’s why I can say that I understand that demon the most, I can hunt him down much faster than others. All I need is your best, you can use me whichever way you want. And when my need is over, you can recycle the fire out of me?"
At these words, the Grand Knight finally smiled. "I thought correct, a lot more courageous than your father."
