Chapter 450: Insomnia

Bai Mo’s Perspective:

The fiery-haired ger wasn’t tired. Whether it was because of the large amount of sleep he’d gotten on the carriage ride or because of the new relationship dynamics he couldn’t quite wrap his brain around, Bai Mo wasn’t sure.

There was also all the information Xu Zeng had shared— that was also on his mind.

Xu Zeng was quiet most of the time, but, over the last day, the man turned ger, was more generous with his words, sharing many glimpses of his past and life experiences.

It was nice. Like really nice.

Bai Mo felt his heart well up. They had all lost so much, but it felt nice to be able to share their experiences and time together.

Bai Mo only really felt not-so-lonely, when Xu Feng was around. The self-proclaimed shameless ger was his best friend for so many reasons. He was dealing with the grief as best as he could, but the throbbing of Momo’s chest seemed to be never-ending.

Starting and nurturing something new with Xu Zeng... and maybe also Xu Hu Zhe was filling a void in his chest he never knew could be filled.

He could never replace his father, his ger-dad, or Xu Feng, and Bai Mo wouldn’t even try, but new was good too.

His heart was beating erratically as his mind wandered. The sleeping arrangements were quite worrying for an unmarried ger. Quite worrying indeed.

After several rounds of arguing, Xu Hu Zhe had taken charge and showed how manly he was. The once silent right hand of his best friend was actually quite domineering.

Bai Mo’s face heated up in the darkness of the night. He was on "his bed," but the two beds had been pushed together by Xu Hu Zhe after he’d gotten fed up with Xu Zeng’s arguments against them.

Bai Mo and Xu Hu Zhe had been on the same side the entire time. Neither of them felt it fair for Xu Zeng to sleep on the cold hard floor. It was fall, and it was a cold hard floor— no.

The immortal beast was beyond stubborn. How could someone so heroic-looking and of noble lineage be so stubborn?

Bai Mo wanted to laugh, but his heart tugged instead. Xu Zeng was clearly not as aloof as he sometimes pretended to be. It had nothing to do with his lineage and nobility but had everything to do with his mindset.

He wasn’t sure if this problem was only when Xu Zeng was in his ger form, or if he hadn’t paid enough attention to the other for the past two months. Either way, Xu Zeng seemed more and more like someone he wanted to protect.

Hearing him speak about his life in Sun Village was heartbreaking. Heart-shattering.

"I slept in the pig pen even at the beginning of winter, the floor here isn’t nearly as cold as that." Xu Zeng had admitted calmly moments earlier. He thought he was building a solid case to sleep on the floor, but he didn’t know he was just making it harder for Bai Mo or Xu Hu Zhe to let him sleep on any floor ever again.

The tugging was intense, and Bai Mo turned around without thinking, wanting to warm up the other ger. He could almost see the young version of the silver-haired ger shivering in some dirty pig pen.

The motion was so quick, his reflexes taking control, that the fire red fox forgot who was sleeping in the middle— The monkey in the middle was none other than Xu Hu Zhe.

This was an argument of its own, but Bai Mo had agreed that it would be unfair to make Xu Zeng sleep on the slack portion in the middle of their cots. It was rigid, but soft at the same time, not meant for a human backside.

He would have offered himself up, but there was no way he could fall asleep like that. Bai Mo could admit, he was a pampered fox.

In the end, the 7-foot-tall man, Xu Hu Zhe, ended up sleeping between the two gers. If it was unclear, he an unmarried man was sleeping between two unmarried gers!

There was also a backpack with two hibernating eggs above their head, but that was different.

"Are you unable to sleep?" The question was asked in a deep and gravelly voice. The man beside him was clearly fast asleep a moment ago, exhausted after a day of driving the carriage nonstop.

Bai Mo now wished he had the skill to drive a carriage. Xu Hu Zhe never complained, but he must be tired. This was a 7-day trip on average, but with their detour, it would likely be a little longer.

There was still so much ground to cover, yet here he was disturbing the man who was doing the brunt of the labor on their journey.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up." Bai Mo whispered back. The room was silent, but he could hear the deep breaths of the ger who he’d been about to check on.

It wasn’t a snore, but Xu Zeng was also clearly exhausted. The trip seemed to be taking more out of him too.

The silver-haired ger had slept in the carriage and awoken when they reached the inn. All three of them had taken turns awkwardly bathing— well, Xu Zeng wasn’t awkward at all. He only wanted to go behind the screen with his (Xu Hu Zhe’s actually) mask on, which the true owner of the mask disagreed with.

After bathing, they’d eaten together in their room while Xu Zeng had cuddled with his backpack, carrying it on his front, across his belly the entire time.

The silver-haired ger didn’t seem to know what shame was. He’d even demanded a kiss from both Bai Mo and Xu Hu Zhe before he agreed to sleep on the bed...

And now the immortal beast was sleeping soundly, while Bai Mo’s heart raced on a never-ending track.

A big palm reached over and felt his forehead, drowsily taking his temperature. "You’re red... but you’re body is cold..."

Okay, he changed his mind, his two bedmates were both shameless hoodlums. Shameless!

Okay, he’d given Xu Zeng a kiss in front of Xu Hu Zhe and watched the two kiss before going to bed. It was also true he was sleeping in a bed with two unmarried bachelors.

He was not blameless, but the sleepy Xu Hu Zhe was too suave, touching him ever so softly.

Bai Mo couldn’t help but freeze up. He knew deep down that Xu Hu Zhe must be truly tired to touch him so freely. Xu Feng was shameless, and his brother Xu Zeng was also shameless, but Xu Hu Zhe had some shame!

Said man with shame, scooped the frozen fox into his arms, resting Bai Mo’s head against his shoulder before his breathing grew steady.

Yes, the f-ing snake fell asleep...

Bai Mo had successfully used a string of new words he’d learned from both Xu Feng and the servants— when they didn’t know he was around.

These were the highly acclaimed "curse words."

He was in the big man’s grip— the strong grip, filled with a calming aroma...

Bai Mo’s heart was threatening to jump out of his chest in earnest this time, but the feeling of the heavy head on top of his was reassuring.

His ears brushed against a scale on the man’s face— once, twice, trice— it felt nice. A little burst of cool as the warmth of the tall man engulfed him.

Xu Hu Zhe had so much body heat, and the firmness of his body felt much better than the cheap cot.

Somehow, this felt nice. It was alright though, wasn’t it? They were going to be like Xu Feng, Xuan Jian, and Xuan Yang. All three of them would be together, forever, and love each other.

They didn’t have to be sad and alone anymore. This was just the beginning. It was okay for Xu Hu Zhe to hold him. It especially felt good.

Bai Mo had never wanted to be held by a man like this, but it felt so good. It was like he would be safe no matter what came their way.

Was this why Xu Zeng wanted to be this man’s partner? Bai Mo felt that must be it. He didn’t even need to be jealous, he could be Xu Hu Zhe’s partner too.

They would all be each other’s closest person.

"Feels good..." Momo mumbled as sleep began to overtake his senses.

"Hmmm." Xu Hu Zhe mumbled back before he lifted his free hand to stroke the fox’s hair gently, lulling Bai Mo into a deeper sleep.

The other hand was innocent, but still compromising for an unmarried man and ger. It was securely wrapped around the fox’s waist. Its perch seemed carved out specially for Xu Hu Zhe’s hand.

Sleep finally descended on the two gers, one man, and two eggs in the single inn room. It was indeed a long day, with a long week ahead.

It was best to get some rest, they would all rise before bright to take part in the festivities of Aran Town.
