Chapter 451: Night Blossoms?
Chapter 451: Night Blossoms?
What could the festivities of Aran Town— an ’off the beaten path’ town between the central and northern portions of the Donghua kingdom— possibly be?
Answer: One involving nature, flowers, and the customs of the southern edge of Donghua, the former dragon immortal beast’s domain.
The Night Flower Blooming Season originated in Southern Donghua, where the Night Flowers were native to, but a few varieties happened to survive in the less temperate climate of Central Donghua.
Aran Town was one of the most north-most towns where Night Flowers would bloom in the north-central area, and thus had a generous number of visitors in the fall, during its blooming season.
In the northern climate, it was harder for these heat loving plants to grow in the cooler months of fall. So Aran Town wasn’t popular on its own merit, but instead as a tourist spot for those less wealthy families that could still afford to take time travel to see the Night Flowers while harvest season was in full swing, but couldn’t travel far.
The truly wealthy families could afford to go further south to see larger clusters of Night Flower Trees in more affluent cities and towns or even well known tourist villages. They didn’t need to harvest land, and they had the capital to travel.
So this was truly a leisure activity for those with the resources and time to take away to see the night flowers— it also turned into a decent first date for three awkward potential partners.
Most inns in Aran town were booked solid with only a room or two left over in the more expensive inns, with the nicer rooms left over. This worked out in Bai Mo’s favor, while there weren’t enough rooms in any given inn for them to spread out, the room they booked was spacious and ’okay.’
Their room had two good sized— if not uncomfortable— beds. They even had a designated space to bathe, not a mobile one, and the bathing bucket was well crafted. It was big enough for the tall ger— Xu Zeng— and the tall man— Xu Hu Zhe— to bathe, uncomfortable, but cleanly.
For a typical villager or small town overlord, this was a very luxurious room, one built with decent materials and attentive service. It was the best option for Bai Mo— he had lived a pampered life— but for Xu Hu Zhe, this was a waste of silver.
At the very least, Bai Mo had somewhat of a conscience, if it were Xu Feng here with them, he would find a way to run up their bill somehow. The thought flittered at the edge of the raven haired man’s consciousness.
Xu Hu Zhe could feel his body stirring, his usual time of waking up was nearing, but this was such a comforting sleep. He wasn’t ready to wake up.
But then again, he should quickly wake up. This wasn’t his room in Nanshan. This wasn’t an alleyway in Yilin Town. This certainly wasn’t someone’s shed he’d stowed away in to keep warm in the winter, no one would come to shoo him away, but it wasn’t home.
He was in a silver draining inn, sharing a makeshift bed with two unmarried gers.
That thought did "it," and then some. It wasn’t oh so hard to fight the drowsiness anymore. Like any other morning, Xu Hu Zhe’s eyes opened before dawn.
It was the time he was accustomed to waking up for several months, since before the beginning of the year, since he had become Xu Feng’s right hand man, since he started practicing martial arts, since even before all the above. He had always been an early riser, it was a survival thing.
Before there was Xu Feng, he would need to fetch water and gather food for himself, Si, and San. Even before that, he needed to wake up in the dark even as a "town dweller" so he could flee from his hiding spots in people’s compounds or around their front doorstep to keep warm in the winter months.
Waking up early, wasn’t anything new for Xu Hu Zhe, but the position he was in— sandwich between two gers— was a very new experience.
It was a very, VERY, very compromising position, and he felt his body heat up in embarrassment as he fully remembered what he’d gotten himself into the night before.
From his neck to his ears to the entirety of his face, everything was hot. It was even possible his scales were scalding under the intense temperature.
A shameless ger with silver hair that trailed along his upper body, had his hands wrapped around Xu Hu Zhe’s waist with the offending head buried against his back.
Scandalous, but that wasn’t all.
Toward the front, the little fox was lying on his left arm. Momo also had his arms around Xu Hu Zhe’s waist, only a little bit higher than the other pair of arms wrapped around his waist.
He was sandwiched between a rock and a hard place— the two sleeping gers.
The now wide awake Xu Hu Zhe was now beyond glad it was time to wake up and he didn’t have to wait any longer for them to set off to view the Night Flowers. Viewing flowers wasn’t something he would normally go out of his way to do, but the raven haired giant was now glad flowers of all kinds existed.
Whether it was the ones that glowed or the ones that didn’t, they were all amazing and precious gifts from the gods!
At first, Hu Zhe tried to pry the higher set of hands from his waist. Bai Mo was thinner and more delicate than Xu Zeng, it should have been an easy task, but the gentle giant couldn’t bring himself to be rough with the fox.
With his silly smile, and a small trail of drool trailing from the corner of his mouth to Xu Hu Zhe’s trapped shoulder, Momo looked incredibly... cute...
Instead of releasing Xu Hu Zhe, the fox just growled— a sound that was more like a milk cat showing its fangs, than a sound of intimidation. It was too much, too cute. Bai Mo followed up by doubling down, tightening his hold around the taut waist.
"Haaah..." Xu Hu Zhe let out an exasperated sound, adorable or not, it was time to wake up. ’This ger was too pampered, let’s try the other one’ —and completely ignore that he is indulging the pampered fox.
Good plan.
Xu Hu Zhe used his only free hand to dislodge the other pair of arms clinging to his waist for dear life. These hands were slightly bigger than the first set, calloused, but still delicate, looking like they should never have been subjected to hard labor.
They shared similar bumps and scars despite living different lives, so Xu Hu Zhe knew Xu Zeng lived a hard life. Seeing the bumps clearly in daylight always made his hurt constrict in the most violent way.
Xu Zeng never gave off the feeling of needing protection, but Xu Hu Zhe never liked seeing him work. This was true even the first time they met— when he believed Xu Zeng was his brother Xu Feng.
It was true he inadvertently pampered the silver haired ger at his back one too many times, but this position was getting more and more uncomfortable as time went by. He was patient, but he was still a man.
The two chests weren’t the only thing pressed against his body. A ger wasn’t a man or a woman, they were their own gender, but they still had the physiological reaction men had in the morning.
The two little swords pressed against him were getting easier and easier to identify each bump and crevice. HE WAS NOT A SAINT. This needed to end.
Xu Hu Zhe didn’t hold back his strength the way he had with Bai Mo, instead, he opted to tug at the sturdier set of hands. There was a small movement before Xu Zeng gripped his waist tighter.
He was frustrated still pulling at the silver-haired ger’s hands in desperation when a set of shameless fangs sunk into his back.
"Hmph!" He swallowed the moan as pain shot up his back.
’SHAMELESS GER!’ Xu Hu Zhe screamed internally. Said shameless ger was clearly awake and lucky he was facing Bai Mo, or he would have given said ger the dirtiest glare.
Xu Hu Zhe pivoted his head, he wasn’t able to glare at Xu Zeng, but he could file complaints to the two cubs against their unscrupulous uncle. He stared at the backpack, silently complaining about Xu Zeng to the dormant eggs.
They were lucky they didn’t get to see or hear their uncle behaving so unscrupulously. He wished he were sleeping too! That way, he wouldn’t have to deal with the poker faced tyrant behind him.
There was no one to defend the giant from the growling fox or the bitting demon beast, the world was so sad and unfair.
