The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 442: In the Distance

Chapter 442: In the Distance

’What was he doing?’

’WHAT WAS HE DOING?’

What did it look like he was doing? Xu Zeng rolled his eyes at the masked idiot. All the while he was desperately fighting the urge to remove said mask.

He still preferred to see Xu Hu Zhe’s face as it was, scales and all, than to stare at the stupid mask.

Then again, it was probably better to leave the mask in place. Xu Zeng didn’t want to do anything that would make their ’friendship’ worse.

*Note: This is Xu Zeng’s idea of friendship... Would he have this friendship with anyone else? I doubt it, but Xu Zeng is Xu Zeng...*

Xu Hu Zhe had continued to keep his distance in the last week even after seeing his ger form. He’d taken out one of his trump cards and showed Xuan Jian what he was capable of.

He was planning to keep this hidden from the dragon and continue to keep his eyes on his brother’s mate, but he’d changed his plans for the snake in front of him.

He’d even used what little energy he’d stored. Hopefully, he’d have enough energy to switch forms after they left Sun Village. If not, Xu Zeng didn’t know what he would do.

Xu Hu Zhe said he wanted a mate who was a ger, so Xu Zeng had shown him this face of his and the man was avoiding him more than ever.

Xu Zeng sat in the driver’s seat, his expression unchanging as Xu Hu Zhe ranted and nagged about his reckless behavior.

The masked man’s words washed over him, barely registering as Xu Zeng stared blankly ahead. He had already assessed Xu Hu Zhe’s condition, finding no signs of injury or physical discomfort. Yet, the man persisted, spewing concerns about safety and potential harm.

Blah, blah, blah.

Wasn’t he the one checking on the half breed? Now the snake was flipping their roles and acting as though he was in danger from a little bit of climbing.

Yes, the carriage was moving, but it wasn’t that fast. Yes, he could have fallen, but it wasn’t the first or last time he would fall.

This all felt like an extreme reaction to Xu Zeng, especially coming from someone who was avoiding him. They weren’t even talking anymore, their friendship was fractured.

Xu Zeng was basically alone in Budding Courtyard for a week with only Da Long and Xiao Long to keep him company from time to time. He was so lonely, only when he went hunting could he have some peace of mind.

Midwife Lee and his children had moved out, and Bai Mo was making preparations for this trip. Xu Hu Zhe was busy too, but still... it wasn’t like Xu Zeng had thought. He’d gambled and lost.

His gender swapping skill didn’t make everything magically better.

Despite Xu Hu Zhe’s nagging, Xu Zeng remained undisturbed on the surface, his face blank. He knew Xu Hu Zhe was fine, not hungry, sleepy, or tired. That was the most important assessment.

Instead, he found himself slipping into a state of indifference, almost lulled to sleep by the repetitive sound of Xu Hu Zhe’s voice.

"Is everything okay?"

Bai Mo’s sudden interjection broke the monotony, momentarily rousing Xu Zeng from his daze. The fox was very obedient, staying in the carriage to watch over Da Long and Xiao Long despite his concern.

"All is well," He called back.

A faint smile tugged at Xu Zeng’s lips at Bai Mo’s concern, but it only seemed to irritate Xu Hu Zhe further. As the forest enveloped them in an eerie silence, Xu Zeng’s attention shifted to their surroundings.

He was going to use this opportunity from Bai Mo to cut the nagging short, but something caught his attention instead. The unusual quietness of the forest was glaringly obvious, but he’d been too preoccupied to notice.

Even with his presence, the forest should have been teeming with life. Hell, even if Xuan Jian’s strong aura was here, the forest shouldn’t be so quiet.

The absence of noise stirred a sense of unease within Xu Zeng, heightening his awareness of their surroundings.

"Your lips are red." This was said in a small whisper, one only their two ears could hear. There was no way Bai Mo in the carriage could hear.

Xu Zeng looked up at the taller man, and he was suddenly annoyed. He didn’t like Xu Hu Zhe being taller than him. Not at all. He wanted his body back, the one he was wearing was always horny. He couldn’t think straight in this skin at all.

"Hmm," Xu Zeng replied noncommittally, he barely heard what the other man said. In truth he wasn’t able to focus at the moment.

All he wanted to do was to put some distance between them again. He felt somehow naked in this skin. It didn’t feel that way with Bai Mo, it was a much smaller level of discomfort.

He’d changed back to this body for Xu Hu Zhe and now he just wanted some space or to be in a safe space.

Xu Zeng didn’t know exactly what he wanted or what he was feeling. That was the actual truth.

He knew he also wanted to taste the lips in front of him, but that was this body talking. It wanted more than just a taste.

As their thoughts converged into actions, Xu Hu Zhe and Xu Zeng found themselves locked in a gentle kiss. It was softer than their usual firey ones, but still filled with an underlying passion.

Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t resist the urge to nibble on Xu Zeng’s lips, savoring the sweetness of the moment.

When they finally parted, Xu Zeng felt a sense of satisfaction wash over him. Yet, through the bliss, confusion gnawed at his mind. Why had Xu Hu Zhe initiated the kiss?

Rather than voicing his uncertainty, Xu Zeng made a statement that cut through the silence like a knife.

"We’re being watched," he declared, his words echoing in the unnaturally quiet forest.
