The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 410: We’re All Adults Here
Chapter 410: We’re All Adults Here
"Hahhhh," Bai Mo finally raised his voice, breaking the tension. "This has gone on long enough."
But the two men clutching the creaking dining table didn’t even spare a glance at the young master with fox ears. Xu Zeng continued to glare, and Xuan Jian’s jaw remained tightly clenched.
Xuan Jian’s jaws seemed on the verge of emitting a cartoonish groan under the pressure. Though they didn’t, the table between him and his brother in law was clearly straining.
"Are you going to break Xu Feng’s table?" Bai Mo questioned calmly, his tone almost too nonchalant. But the reaction from the two stubborn men—well, one man and one ger currently—was almost immediate.
Xu Zeng recoiled as if scalded by hot water, while Xuan Jian looked down at the table with remorseful eyes. Perhaps now they could discuss this like adults now?
If the two eggs were presented to his relatives in Jinghua, the elders of the Bai and Deng clans might have actually come to blows over them.
The ’oh so wise’ old fox immortal bloodline carriers, who felt they could outsmart anyone, but who were being led along by him and Xu Feng!
"Da Long and Xiao Long can’t be taken to the Xuan mansion," Bai Mo advocated for Xuan Jian, attempting to reason with Xu Zeng. But the other ger wasn’t having it.
Xu Zeng turned his glare back to Bai Mo, his joints almost audibly creaking. "You want him to abandon the cubs as well!" It was time for some friendly fire as Xu Zeng continued, and Bai Mo almost felt like throwing up his hands in surrender.
"I know you humans have an easier time having children, but higher bloodline demon beasts should value our cubs. Xu Feng and I are a blessing to those with strong—" Xu Zeng’s frustration was evident, but both Xuan Jian and Bai Mo cut him off almost simultaneously.
"I would never neglect my children!"
"Us humans?"
The room fell silent for a heartbeat, and Bai Mo felt more confused than ever. That one sentence triggered something in his mind. The "you humans" wasn’t directed at Xuan Jian, and it sounded almost derogatory.
Yes, they were immortal bloodline carriers with traits beast inherited from their ancestors—Bai Mo’s traits were even at such a high level that he could retract his fox ears and other fox characteristics at will. Yet, it felt like he was clearly categorized as human, while Xuan Jian wasn’t...
Xu Zeng’s statement about not being a fox finally struck a chord with Bai Mo. Could it be that he wasn’t a fox immortal bloodline carrier after all? If not, then what was he? An Immortal Fox Beast?
Bai Mo’s mind raced with the implications of such a revelation. It seemed like a wild conclusion to jump to, but was it really so far fetched?
Considering the reverence surrounding the 5 Immortal Beasts of Dongzhou, it wouldn’t be unreasonable for Xu Zeng to be one of them.
Even the most talented individuals of their generation paled in comparison to the rumored abilities of these legendary beings. Yet, Xu Zeng’s ability to change gender floated across his subconscious mind as well as the two Xu brother’s silver hair, even Xu Feng’s affinity for plants was suspect.
And what’s more, Xuan Jian didn’t refute Xu Zeng’s words at all...
’...higher bloodlines demon beast should value our cubs.’ OUR.
’I would never neglect my children!’
Our.
OUR!
OUR!?
Bai Mo found himself increasingly confused yet strangely enlightened. Could both of these conflicting thoughts be true simultaneously?
Xu Zeng, an Immortal Beast of fox heritage. Xuan Jian, an Immortal Beast of snake heritage. And Xu Feng, also an Immortal Beast of fox heritage...
This line of thinking was crucial, but Bai Mo couldn’t dwell on it for long before the verbal sparring resumed.
"You wouldn’t abandon them? You wouldn’t abandon my beautiful, smart, cute little nephews? Yet you want to leave them behind and run off with the garden snake?"
"I would never—" Xuan Jian’s rebuttal faltered as his brother-in-law’s words sank in, his entire demeanor undergoing a sudden transformation.
In the dimly lit room, Xuan Jian stood tall and imposing, his anger casting a shadow over the entire space, making everyone else seem small in comparison. Without uttering a single word, his fury burned hot, transforming the man who was usually cold and affectionately referred to as the ’iceberg’ by Xu Feng into a volcano on the brink of eruption.
With a single string of questions from his brother in law, the charged atmosphere began to crack. And then, with a chuckle, the argument unraveled completely as Xuan Jian laughed without restraint.
It was now a one-sided battle, with Xu Zeng glaring at the former "iceberg" with disdain.
"You think this is funny?" Xu Zeng’s confusion didn’t mirror that of the others, though not everyone had caught the ’garden snake’ comment made by Xu Zeng.
Jie and Bo—even the typically reserved Bo was visibly amused—both struggled to contain their laughter. They clearly knew who Xu Zeng was referring to.
And from right beside him, Xu Hu Zhe stared at Xu Zeng in disbelief, fully aware of who the garden snake was.
It took only a heartbeat for all the pieces to fall into place for Bai Mo, who was viewing the scene as an outsider.
Xuan Yang was the garden snake.
XUAN YANG WAS A GARDEN SNAKE.
The talented immortal bloodline carrier and renowned scholar was reduced to nothing more than a garden snake in the eyes of the great and powerful fox demon beast before him.
And to make matters worse, the snake demon beast found it amusing. If Xuan Yang was a garden snake, Was Bai Mo nothing more than a house cat in Xu Zeng’s eyes?
Bai Mo’s brows furrowed as he realized he would need to revisit this conversation later. For some reason, he felt no fear toward these Immortal Beasts, but they needed to bring this discussion to a resolution before addressing other pressing matters.
It was clear that Xu Zeng had wanted to remove his mask earlier. Bai Mo wasn’t certain how much the two immortal beasts knew about each other, but it was a topic that needed further exploration.
