The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 411: Not All Adults Are Created Equal

Chapter 411: Not All Adults Are Created Equal

"Xu Zeng," Bai Mo called out sternly, but still with some restraint. This argument would be never ending or possibly end with neither of the main parties actually communicating if someone didn’t step in.

"How can Da Long and Xiao Long be abandoned if you are around?"

The masked ger leered at Bai Mo with a fierceness that made him want to shiver unconsciously, but he was a fox with a mission. He was playing peacemaker at the moment, and couldn’t tuck his tail and run for cover.

Besides, the glare Xu Zeng shot his way wasn’t nearly as chilling as the ones he was shooting at Xuan Jian. That much was plain to see.

"If they have me, they have you," Bai Mo quickly took in the other Xu Feng loyalist party member in the room, "And they have Xu Hu Zhe, how can Xu Feng’s children be abandoned?"

Bai Mo wasn’t sure he was going down the right path, but a break in the atmosphere alerted him to the change in Xu Zeng’s emotions. The other ger was almost manic a moment ago, it was him against the world but in two sentences, he realized he wasn’t alone.

The feeling of having support was something Bai Mo only really knew after meeting Xu Feng. Before that he had loyal servants and supporters, enough to fill one hand, but no real friends or confidants that he could share the most trivial and complicated personal matters with.

He knew he was the only outsider Xu Feng trusted outside of his estate, so maybe, just maybe it was the same for his brother, Xu Zeng. If it was, he would gladly, willingly be that support for the other, Immortal Beast or not.

Bai Mo quickly glanced at Xu Hu Zhe with a bit of apology in his eyes. He had dragged the man across from him into this pit without asking first. But when he looked over, the look in Xu Hu Zhe’s eyes was strange.

It wasn’t negative, but Bai Mo couldn’t decipher what it meant—perhaps it was contemplative? Somehow it felt like the man was assessing him or was he just feeling open to the elements since all eyes were currently on him?

"I would never abandon my cubs," Xuan Jian took this chance to clear the air. This was more like the calm and level headed man Bai Mo was used to seeing—more like the Xuan Jian he knew when Xu Feng was around.

"Even if I find myself at my dying breath, I will find my way back to you," The statement seemed almost too intimate to be directed at one’s brother in law, but Xuan Jian wasn’t done yet.

"I wouldn’t leave my children without my blood essence." Xu Zeng seemed to be assessing the other man in earnest this time. He was doing more than just listening to the words, he was taking everything he’d seen over the last two months into consideration.

Even for Bai Mo, who hadn’t been at the estate around the clock, actions were still louder than words. Maybe it was an Immortal Beast trait that was passed down to the immortal bloodline carriers, but Bai Mo was almost certain that Xu Zeng was fully connecting the dots beyond just words.

"I stayed put over the last moon because I didn’t want to have them out of my sight for too long. They are the precious cubs Xu Feng left behind and I intended to hatch them and grow them to be healthy little cubs."

Xuan Jian’s eyes became a bit distant at this point. "Brother in law and Feng Feng seemed to have hatched and reached adulthood without another blood relative around to teach them. I was the same—although my parents are alive—I don’t want our children to live like that."

"Then why leave?" This time the pain in Xu Zeng’s face was bare for all in the room. He seemed so lonely and small as he huddled back in his chair.

Jie and Bo had their eyes averted from both Xu Zeng and Xuan Jian. This was clearly something they weren’t meant to see or hear, so they wouldn’t see or hear it.

Bai Mo on the other hand watched the masked ger openly. He knew he shouldn’t. Even under normal social etiquette standards, he should excuse himself from the room or at the very least minimize his presence in some way, but his body had a mind of its own.

Or maybe it was his heart?

His hand reached out and rubbed the other ger’s larger hand. Xu Zeng had switched to gripping the hands of his chair after withdrawing from the abused table. The hand closest to Bai Mo was now under his own warm palm.

It was soft and smooth from this angle, less calloused than when they held hands palm to palm earlier in the day. Bai Mo wanted to feel all of the silver haired ger, to touch everything of his, calluses and all.

As his cheeks flushed slightly, ran his hand was encased by the warmth and callouses he remembered. Bai Mo’s face reddened even more and as he redirected his gaze from their joined hands, he caught sight of another hand caught in Xu Zeng’s.

Xu Hu Zhe was holding Xu Zeng’s hand across the table. While neither pair or joined hands was visible to Jie and Bo, Both Xu Hu Zhe and Bai Mo could see each other’s hands clearly from their vantage point.

Bai Mo looked at the now unmasked man, and to his surprise, Xu Hu Zhe was staring back at him with an unfriendly glare. The eye contact was unnerving, but Bai Mo refused to back down for some reason. He wouldn’t lose to a snake!

If Xuan Yang could be a garden snake, so was Xu Hu Zhe! He carefully neglected his previous thoughts of being a house cat, today he was a majestic fox! He wouldn’t lose this staring contest, he wasn’t sure why they were having a staring contest, but his pride wouldn’t allow for failure today.

"Hah," Xuan Jian’s resigned sigh pulled Bai Mo’s attention back to the unfolding scene.
