Chapter 409: The Baby Shuffle Begins

Chapter 409: The Baby Shuffle Begins

There was no mistaking it—Xu Feng was no ordinary carrier of immortal bloodline. Even a fleeting glance at the two eggs was enough to reveal their extraordinariness.

For one, their coloring wasn’t normal, not even a bit. Most eggs would have a small tinge of color, but Da Long and Xiao Long were like wolves among sheep, like pearls among stones, like a vivid cloud in the open sky, like...you get it.

They were like fireworks in a dark sky, like gems in a sea of rocks, like a rainbow in a gray world. They were special snowflakes and looked the part.

Taking them anywhere in Donghua was questionable, especially a big city. Xuan Jian knew they’d draw too much attention there and his focus would be on them, not retrieving Xuan Yang from whatever situation he’d found himself in.

The capital? Not a chance. It just wasn’t safe.

*Bai Mo’s perspective*

.

’They are so fierce,’ Bai Mo thought to himself.

Most people who considered themselves upper class or ’up and coming families’ in Yilin Town liked to form groups that were exclusive and often "fought" with other groups.

This was never a physical fight though, it was often in the form of verbal jabs here and there that would seem like normal conversation to those with untrained eyes and ears.

There were also financial attacks, like sabotaging someone’s business, planting spies in a rival or enemy’s household, and draining their resources.

It was a covert type of fighting amongst these groups and families.

The more Bai Mo thought, the more he preferred this fierceness. He was raised by his dad and father and eventually by their trusted servant. They tried very hard to prepare him for the circle he would be a part of. No, it should be the circle he would stand above, for the rest of his life.

He knew how to navigate that life. He knew how to put on a fake smile and play both sides of a situation. Even before he was a true immortal bloodline carrier, it always seemed to lurk in his blood.

Bai Mo was trained well, he could admit that, but other than with his fiancé, Kang Han, and his childhood friend Sun Ming, Bai Mo never integrated too much with the other children of the Yilin upper class.

He had a few more friends before his parents passed, but he always preferred to keep to himself.

Bai Mo thought he just had a strong love for knowledge, that was why he could never get used to the crowd his father and dad were accustomed to.

It was only after he met Xu Feng and after he made so many new friends in Nanshan Estate, and spent time with people who didn’t make him want to recoil that he learned more about himself.

Yes, he loved reading, yes he had a thirst for knowledge, yes he liked his peace of mind, and yes, now he finally found his people. Even if they argued over the silliest things, these were in fact his people.

Bai Mo couldn’t help but smile, even as Xuan Jian ran his hand through his hair in frustration. Xu Zeng didn’t look any better. Even behind his mask, his eyes were squinted in his signature glare.

Even his condescending looks were kind of cute. Bai Mo’s smile grew more and more. He wished he could have met the other when he was younger, before he became so easily annoyed and agitated with the world.

Xu Zeng shared Bai Mo’s passion for knowledge. While, Xu Feng liked to read as well and learn about their world, nature, animals, plants, and even history, Xu Zeng’s love was almost fanatical.

It was the most intense love for knowledge Bai Mo had ever witnessed.

Xuan Yang was renowned as one of Donghua’s top scholars, and Xu Feng possessed an insatiable curiosity about the world. As for Bai Mo, he used books as his escape.

...Well, Xuan Yang, Xu Feng, and he—Bai Mo—probably all used books as an escape, and so did Xu Zeng, but his ability to learn was a bit scary. Or maybe it was attractive? Bai Mo was certain it was attractive, yes, VERY attractive.

The usually reserved Xu Zeng came alive when discussing books. His smile was just as radiant when unraveling complex concepts as when talking about his brother and his nephews.

Bai Mo felt a flutter of excitement, discovering yet another charming aspect of the man he admired. And Xu Zeng’s aloof demeanor only added to his appeal; after all, Xu Zeng was only close to a select few—himself, Xu Hu Zhe, Xuan Yang (due to their heated discussions about complex topics), and Xuan Jian (even though their interactions were the most limited).

Xu Zeng was also great with children, but aside from that, only his family and the four mentioned adults could really bring about any emotion or reaction in him.

Bai Mo felt special to be included among them, he was special to this cute man—

"You’re not going to abandon my nephews!?" the normally reserved and ’cute man’ growled in the tense silence of the room, causing Bai Mo’s smile to falter.

The conversation was going in circles, and Bai Mo realized he was focusing on trivial matters when more pressing issues demanded attention.

The other three men in the room, Jie, Bo, and Xu Hu Zhe, stayed silent, like the background of the room while the two ’masters’ argued in circles.

Bai Mo looked at the three big and tall men who were behaving like wall fixtures, before sighing exaggeratedly. Three 7 foot tall men, and they won’t even step in. He, the outsider in this estate had to step in.

Was this how Xu Feng lived?

Little did he know, Xu Feng was usually the one picking fights with Xuan Yang after being covertly teased by the snake young master. The hot headed Xuan Jian wasn’t a common sight at all.
