The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 397: Caught in the Act!

Chapter 397: Caught in the Act!

Even then, Xu Zeng wasn’t worthy enough to be married out with some sort of dignity. In the end, they still chose to sell him to a brothel.

His stepmother was cruel, he’d always known. His father wasn’t actually his father, this he’d also known before his "dad" died. There was no love between them, but Xu Zeng had no one else.

His only kin was at that time, somewhere in the void, his life and death unknown. His "dad" had passed away during childbirth. Xu Zeng was tolerated by many in Sun Village, but he was never free enough to interact with them.

No one went out of their way to make his life any easier, he was a stranger after all, not one of their own. He wasn’t worthy of that much attention.

Before his inheritance and the memories associated with them were awakened, Xu Zeng knew there was more to the world than Sun Village. He even knew there was more to the world than Dongzhou, but it didn’t stop him from craving acceptance and love.

"Even as a ger." Bai Mo answered, carefully enunciating each and every word. He believed it to be true, so he could admit it boldly, even if it was embarrassing.

Maybe before he had met Xu Feng, he wouldn’t feel so strongly about speaking his mind on this topic, but things had changed.

Most people seemed to have a standard for beauty—one for gers, one for men, and one for women—but did any of it even matter?

Bai Mo was certain it didn’t matter at all. Honor and reputation be damned. He wanted to be foolish! We already established that.

The one thing Bai Mo wasn’t expecting to see today, or any day for that matter, was now happening right before his eyes. The often disinterested man, er... ger, was tearing up right in front of him!

In a sudden surge of emotion, Bai Mo’s hand reached out unconsciously, seeking to be the warmth and comfort against Xu Zeng’s touch.

He couldn’t care less about having just confessed in more ways than one to the other ger in front of him.

The societal norms that had once held sway over his actions were now forgotten, swept away by the overwhelming desire to protect and console the tearful ger before him.

Xu Zeng may have been taller than him, but that didn’t mean he didn’t deserve to be pampered.

As he clasped Xu Zeng’s hand, Bai Mo’s embarrassment melted away, replaced by a fierce determination to banish the sadness from the other man’s eyes. He cared not whether Xu Zeng was an ugly crier or a pretty crier—all that mattered was seeing him happy and engaged, his eyes sparkling with joy and life.

Xu Zeng was most attractive when he was fully engaged and excited, like when they talked about his favorite people—Xu Feng, his brother, and his nephews, Xiao Long and Da Long.

At that moment, Bai Mo felt a pang of deep sorrow in his heart, a sensation stronger than any he had ever experienced before—other than the pain that came from the loss of a loved one.

It was a pain born of a different kind, it was fueled by longing, a yearning for something he feared he might never have.

It was stronger than when Kang Han hadn’t fought for their marriage when his parents called of their engagement.

And as he gazed into Xu Zeng’s tear filled eyes, Bai Mo realized with a start that his feelings for the younger man ran deeper than mere friendship or even infatuation.

He was falling in love, hopelessly and irrevocably, with the silver haired ger who sat before him.

Even when Xu Zeng revealed his extraordinary and strange ability to change genders, Bai Mo felt no fear or hesitation. He accepted the other man unconditionally, his love transcending the boundaries of gender and convention.

He hadn’t even thought twice about it, he just accepted it as fact.

He almost wanted to propose marriage right there and there, but the other was still sad. This wasn’t the right time, was it?

Bai Mo opened his mouth, his brain running a 100 miles an hour, with trembling lips, Bai Mo began to speak, his words tumbling out in a rush as he poured out his heart to Xu Zeng.

"You are always attractive to me, and I would be honored to see your face and listen to your words for the rest of my life. If Xu Feng was here, I would have asked him for your—"

*CRASH

But before he could finish, their intimate moment was shattered by the sound of a loud crash, followed by the distant barking of dogs and a small voice calling out in concern.

"Is dad okay?" This was clearly Xiao An’s voice.

Startled, Bai Mo looked up to see Lee Hua standing nearby, the midwife’s eyes wide with astonishment at the sight of the two men holding hands. In Midwife Lee’s eyes, only Bai Mo’s face could be seen.

This was obviously Xu Zeng, a man of marriageable age, and Bai Mo, a ger of marriageable age, having a rendezvous in almost daylight!

Lee Hua wasn’t wrong. While Xu Zeng now had a ger’s appearance, this was still a social no-no.

Embarrassment flooded through Bai Mo as he quickly released Xu Zeng’s hand, his cheeks flushing crimson as he stammered out an explanation.

"Um... I... we..." he faltered, at a loss for words as he struggled to compose himself in the wake of their unexpected interruption. He didn’t want to ruin the ger in front of him’s reputation.

But despite the awkwardness of the situation, Bai Mo couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the distraction—it had saved him from making a potentially rash decision in the heat of the moment.

He didn’t want to push the other into a corner. He should brooch the subject more delicately, especially since his feelings had developed this far.

As Lee Hua continued to stare at them in bewilderment, Bai Mo took a deep breath and forced a restrained smile, hoping to diffuse the tension with a touch of grace.
