Chapter 392: A Visit from Bai Mo
Chapter 392: A Visit from Bai Mo
Xu Zeng smiled into the small bronze mirror in front of him. The room he was staying in was much nicer than his space in the pig house in Sun Village. There was no way he would argue for the room Lee Hua was staying in.
The midwife had two children and needed the space more than him. Besides, this was Xu Feng’s home that he was allowed to live in freely.
He was even lucky enough to have a small bronze mirror to himself. In the other world, the mirrors were much nicer and they even made windows with their mirrors—not mirrors, but glass.
Xu Zeng wished he could go back and bring a few trinkets back for his brother’s mates and his nephews. He could even bring a nice gift back for Bai Mo and Xu Hu—yes, he would bring something back for Xu Hu Zhe as well.
Xu Zeng’s smiled became more restrained as he stared into the mirror.
Xu Hu Zhe had helped him straighten up before leaving to entertain the two servants, but Xu Zeng felt sticky and uncomfortable. He also didn’t want to be reminded of his little escapade with the other man, and he was a bit petty.
He had excused himself from Bai Mo’s company to wash up quickly before dinner, but he did more than just wash up.
According to the servants from earlier, ’Little Sister Si and Steward San are inside Blooming Courtyard, and no one is answering...’ there was no one available to entertain Bai Mo while his nephews slept and Si and San were likely working on dinner.
He wasn’t quite sure where Xu Hu Zhe had jetted off to, but he had a point to prove. He wouldn’t just be rubbing his red mole in Xu Hu Zhe’s face, Xu Zeng was hitting two birds with one stone.
He and Xu Feng looked quite similar, and no one in the estate had seen Xu Feng in some time. They would likely never see him again, but it didn’t seem like Xuan Jian or Xuan Yang would make this announcement to the public. There wasn’t even a body to bury...
Xuan Yang didn’t want to remarry either.
Pretending to be Xu Feng from a distance would be helpful in keeping the gossip to a minimum.
Xu Zeng made one more adjustment to the bright cream colored robes with orange and yellow detailing throughout the design. This was one of the clothes Xu Feng had received as part of his betrothal gifts that he tossed to the side but didn’t sell.
While he was slightly taller than his brother even as a ger, this robe fit him much better than one of the darker ones Xu Si had customized for his male body. There was also a pure white robe that fit his smaller frame, but he would save it for another day.
It had been a long time since he’d seen himself in this body, and it brought back so many bad memories. Memories he wasn’t sure he wanted to revisit.
He felt so much more powerful in his male body, like no one could beat him anymore, and no one could hurl insults at him...
"Hah," Xu Zeng put his smile back in place, although it was much, much smaller this time. He braced himself and entered the reception room once again, this time with a refreshed smaller body, a ger’s marking, and light clothing.
Bai Mo’s head raised immediately to politely welcome his friend’s brother back, but his entire mouth hung open instead.
Xu Zeng sat down and resumed playing with the two little bells as if nothing had happened. "Excuse my absence," He added politely as an afterthought, his nervousness barely covered with nonchalance.
*Ding, ding, ding*
...
*Ting-ah-ling, ding*
...
"Do I look strange?" Xu Zeng finally asked the other ger.
Bai Mo’s fox ears flinched repeatedly as if malfunctioning, before he shook his head quickly.
He was the older one here. Xu Feng wasn’t here to be an older brother to Xu Zeng, he need to get himself together. It was much easier said than done, but he did do it.
A few heartbeats later Bai Mo could finally form words, "You’re a ger?"
Xu Zeng nodded, covertly staring at Bai Mo’s face while pretending to be absorbed in the beauty of the bells.
"Xu Feng did say you were, but..." He shook his head again, "When we met you weren’t, so I just..."
Bai Mo was working hard to fill in possible plot holes, but it was obvious his brain was overheating. "I’ve read of legends where this is possible, but they are just legends and fables, not even the immortal beasts could..."
Bai Mo quickly shut his mouth. His understanding of immortal beasts and demon beasts had changed in the last few months. He’d heard secrets he shouldn’t have while in the main Bai Estates in Jinghua.
His ears were much sharper than they should be, and he heard the elders he’d seen speaking, and ones that never showed themselves too.
There were too many secrets in this world, and the world was much bigger than he thought it was. Anything was possible, even this, a man who could turn into a ger. But this was his friend’s brother, and he could keep this secret.
"Thank you for sharing this secret with me, I’ll take it to my grave!" Bai Mo shouted his earnest thoughts out.
It was only with this serious look on Bai Mo’s face that Xu Zeng’s body relaxed. There was no repulsion in the other ger’s face, his brother had made a good, good friend.
Bai Mo was good to his nephews, good to Si and San, good to the new puppies, good to Lee Hua’s children, and even good to him. Bai Mo was the kindest noble he’d ever met, not that he’d ever met a noble before coming to Nanshan Estate.
"What did my brother tell you about me?"
"Oh?" Bai Mo was only momentarily caught off guard before gushing, "Feng Feng said you were a cutie." He laughed looking at the mostly reserved man, no ger, in front of him. Xu Feng must have been blinded by love.
Xu Zeng was more overwhelmingly handsome than cute, although he didn’t lie when he said the ger’s smiles were adorable.
