The silent showdown between the two men seemed to stretch on for a lifetime, come but it had only been a few seconds.

they were considered old bachelors at 17 or 18 years old—this was an irrefutable fact—without any marriage prospects in sight. Yet the two old bachelors were having the most immature standoff.

Their peers were taking care of two or three children plus a wife and if they were a bit wealthier, they might have a few wives. But again, here were two bachelors, handsome ones at that.

To be fair, this showdown was a completely one sided staring match. Xu Zeng still felt bad about the way he acted, but his honor as a ger was now at stake! His very heritage!

He was a proud demon beast of amazing lineage, and now his integrity was being taken into question. He had no reason to lie!

Xu Zeng was new to kissing, but he had lots of experience being a ger. He was one for 16 years, and while outside of Dongzhou gers were nearly impossible to find—much rarer than on the continent—he was one.

He couldn’t have any children in such a small place with low leveled half demon beasts, but that wouldn’t be a problem in higher realms.

While he was seething away, Xu Hu Zhe was lost at sea. His face red in embarrassment, but also confusion written plainly on said face.

How can a man be a ger? Xu Zeng was tall, taller than Xu Feng—and that was the tallest ger he knew.

On top of that Xu Zeng had no marking on his head, and he requested completely separate sleeping quarters from Midwife Lee. Well, that was a given, but he didn’t even fight for the main rooms of Budding Courtyard despite being Xu Feng’s brother.

Midwife Lee and his children were still in the main quarters till this day.

Even with Bai Mo, there was an obvious barrier in their relationship like the one between men and women or men and gers.

The only person he was close to was...Xu Hu Zhe himself, another man.

"Brother Hu Zhe!" Came calls from inside of the stable, "Brother Hu Zhe!"

"I was expecting him to be here. If brother Hu Zhe isn’t out and about, he is usually in here with the stallions and mare."

"I would spend my time in here too if the stallions like me a bit more." The second voice replied somewhat bitterly.

"It’s amazing that our estate has three horses! Three!" The first man was clearly proud of his estate, "Even the big mansions in Yilin have two at most. Our masters are very capable!"

"The Xuan household has been gone for a month, and Master Feng has been in seclusion for so long. The mansion is more somber even with the foreign children and eggs that were brought it."

The second man’s voice seemed to be dripping with accusation, as if there was more to his statement. It was like he was deliberately luring the first man into a corner.

"Hmm, but most of the servants have been more active, at least the women and gers have been."

"Hahaha." The second man laughed, but answered back quickly. There were many things to gossip about. "Master Feng said they weren’t allowed to crawl into his or his husbands’ beds, but the brother, ’Master Zeng,’ is not off limits."

"It’s now a race to see who can capture the new master’s heart first."

"I feel bad for Brother Hu Zhe the most." Even as he claimed pity, there was too much joy in his words.

"Why? He is clearly favored by Master Feng."

"That is true, he has his own quarters and practices with Master Jian’s men every day. There is no place he isn’t able to go freely in the entire estate!" This man was clearly not too fond of Xu Hu Zhe.

As they spoke Xu Hu Zhe straightened himself up once more, preparing to make an appearance. The sooner he stepped in, the sooner they would shut their mouths.

But, a certain master’s brother seemed to be hearing this type of gossip for the first time and was listening closely.

"He is favored and capable." This first man’s awe for Xu Hu Zhe was obvious, "He is worthy of the name Xu, I only hope to be gifted a name by Master Feng one day."

The other man simply hummed in response clearly not interested in this and wanted to get back to the gossip.

"With Master Zeng’s arrival, all the attention has been taken off Brother Hu Zhe. He could have had his pick of the women and gers in the estate, but now their target has changed."

"Hmph, he could have even tasted multiple women as he pleased, who told him to be so high and mighty—" Xu Hu Zhe saw that Xu Zeng wasn’t going to use this time to get himself together and was instead listening to the gossip single mindedly.

Instead of staying put, Hu Zhe tried to save his sullied name.

"Who is looking for me." It wasn’t a yell or even a booming and angry voice, but the two men loitering within the stable completely froze like prey after hearing the sound of a large predator in the area.

If they hadn’t been blatantly looking for Xu Hu Zhe, they might have bolted and seen how far their legs could take them from this place.

Xu Hu Zhe didn’t like gossip, and all the servants of the estate knew this. He especially didn’t like gossip about Xu Feng, would it be the same about Xu Zeng?

The second man found his courage, or maybe it was that he found a scapegoat. "Ma—ma—master Bai has arrived a few moments ago."

"I came too early," Bai Mo said a bit tentatively as he looked up at Xu Zeng. The eggs were still asleep, and Xiao Momo and Xiao An were nowhere in sight.

It was just Bai Mo and Zeng in the courtyard. Xu Hu Zhe had made himself scarce.

Xu Zeng looked down at the cute little bells Bai Mo had brought for his nephews, and his smile was genuine. "You came at the perfect time; dinner will be ready soon."
