Chapter 365: Labor
Chapter 365: Labor
The joyous scene had given way to an unexpected twist, leaving the room in a collective gasp of concern. The contrasting emotions of anticipation and distress collided, enveloping the space in an uncertain haze.
The air in Xu Feng’s bedroom hung heavy with the acrid stench of vomit, an unwelcome fragrance that clung to the atmosphere. The usually vibrant and lively space and occasionally romantic space, had transformed into a realm of chaos and urgency.
As Midwife Lee orchestrated the hurried transition, Xu Feng lay sprawled on the bed, a portrait of pale vulnerability as he tried to straight his muddled up mind.
His unfocused eyes betrayed a mix of discomfort and shame, the remnants of earlier episodes of vomiting that had stained both table and sheets. The mess went unnoticed by the others, their attention consumed by the chaos.
In a spontaneous decision, the birthing room became the center of action, a room with a history that stretched across various Chapters of Xu Feng’s short life in Nanshan Estate.
Once a bridal chamber and later transformed into a plant nursery, it now took on the role of witnessing the miracle of life. Its defining characteristic—absence of the nauseating scent that plagued Xu Feng’s main bedroom.
The chaotic movement and dialogue between all the participants barely entered Xu Feng’s ears. He couldn’t focus. Just staying conscious was a tremendous task.
As Midwife Lee flitted about, orchestrating the swift relocation, the dynamics of the scene was not about feasibility of moving the tall ger to the next room, but about who would claim the honor of assisting.
The urgency seemed to blur the edges of reason, and within moments, Xu Feng found himself surrounded by the familiar faces of Xuan Jian, Xuan Yang, and Xu Hu Zhe.
Their presence, however, was short lived, swiftly dismissed by the determined Midwife Lee.
In the middle of the chaotic shuffling, an unexpected addition made her way into the new room—Xu San. Despite being a girl, the circumstances were pressing, and Xuan Jian had just realized his oversight.
They had a doctor, but only one midwife—one adult ger that could remain in the birthing room with Xu Feng.
While the final preparations like hot water, cloth, and more were being prepared and the two rooms were swarmed in chaos, Xu Feng was in another world. The pain had thoroughly rattled his brain.
Xu Feng’s once vibrant surroundings now felt like a surreal dreamscape, where reality and a strange sense of numbness intertwined in an inexplicable dance.
The birthing pain clawed at Xu Feng’s senses, a visceral experience that defied any attempt at ignorance. It was a piercing agony, each wave crashing over him like a storm, threatening to consume every ounce of his being.
The reality of childbirth, unfiltered and stark, unfolded in relentless waves of pain. And an occasional numbness would give him a reprieve from the entire ordeal.
Transitioning to a more upright position in the birthing room proved to be a needed challenge. The pain, intense and merciless, threatened to pull him into unconsciousness several times.
Despite the struggle, Xu Feng fought to remain conscious, chained to the moment by the weight of the last few scenes that lingered in his mind.
The imprint of Xuan Jian’s kiss lingered on his lips, a haunting memory he never wanted to end. The fear reflected in Xuan Jian’s eyes cast a shadow over Xu Feng, a spectral presence that clung to him.
As he grappled with the pain, two lingering prints on his eyelids echoed the tender kisses Xuan Yang had given before the move—a ritual, a shared expression of love. They loved him, and he clung to that thought in the middle of the wave like pain.
They were no longer here with him. It was just him, Midwife Lee, Xu San...and the two eggs in his belly. A small panic washed over Xu Feng.
The reality of the situation set in, the panic began to claw at Xu Feng’s consciousness.
What if his transmigration plans failed? What if he never saw his children grow or never gave them a bath? The weight of uncertainty threatened to drown him, and just as despair began to tighten its grip, a sharp yell sliced through the haze.
"Breathe! Mistress Xu, breathe!" The urgent command came from Midwife Lee, his face etched with fear. Xu Feng’s gaze shifted to Xu San, tears streaming down her face, a stark contrast to something staining her cheeks.
On closer inspection, it was blood.
The room blurred in his vision, questions and fears lingering unspoken as his hoarse throat betrayed the intensity of the ordeal.
Was it the vomit? No, it felt different...
In the dimly lit room, Xu Feng’s consciousness wavered, a fleeting shadow in the chaos of pain and blood. His memories blurred, his voice reduced to hoarse mumbles that echoed the hours of relentless screams.
His knees were a visible anchor in the sea of his consciousness, reminding him of the task at hand—birthing eggs?
But the scene beyond remained obscured, lost in the haze of his weakening senses.
Blood, it felt as though it was a river of it, painted the canvas of the birthing room. His own blood.
Yeah, it was his.
It clung to Xu San’s face, dark and wet.
Through the fog, he mumbled a single word, "Baby?"
Midwife Lee, tears glistening in his eyes, shook his head. Not a single egg had been safely birthed, and the shadow of loss loomed over the room. Miraculously, Xu Feng responded, a fragile thread still connecting him to the world.
Sluggish thoughts swirled in his mind, yet he couldn’t yield. His children needed him. Plans and dreams hinged on their well being. Midwife Lee’s orders cut through the haze, sending Xu San to fetch clean cloth and hot water from Xu Hu Zhe.
"Hu Zhe!" Xu Feng called out, his perception of energy heightened even as his body faltered. The familiar voice of the teen answered the call, filled with pain.
