Chapter 364: Going Into...

In the dimly lit room, the air was heavy with the scent of medicinal herbs, and the atmosphere was tense as Midwife Lee presented the bitter concoction to Xu Feng.

The silver haired ger understood the necessity of drinking the remedy for the sake of his unborn children, but the taste and smell were beyond disgusting—not as bitter as he thought it would be, but fairly rank.

As Midwife Lee handed the bowl to Xu Feng, a temporary hush fell over the room. The pregnant ger, fueled by pride, insisted on managing the task himself.

"Don’t drink too quickly."

The room held its breath as Xu Feng gulped down the concoction. Surprisingly, the bitterness wasn’t as overpowering as expected, adding a twist to the anticipated tension in the air.

As the first sip touched his lips, Xu Feng’s expression shifted.

The mask of indifference, reminiscent of his first arrival at Nanshan Estate, settled on his face. His eyes, once warm and quirky, now seemed distant and cold, portraying the demeanor of a true noble.

The transformation was blunt, and the usual playful energy was replaced by an air of solemnity.

Xuan Yang, the most observant of his lovers, was the first to notice the change. Xu Feng’s nervous rubbing of his own belly, a new telltale sign, hinted at the inner turmoil.

Despite the audience in the room, Xuan Yang reached out to Xu Feng. A scholar’s honor meant little compared to the well being of his loved ones. He would gladly discard all titles for the sake of those he cherished.

Simultaneously, another hand extended towards Xu Feng’s back.

Xuan Jian, typically less attuned to subtle details, was focused today. The presence of the three strangers didn’t distract them from their primary concern—the well being of their beloved ger love.

The room held an intense tension, with the bitter remedy lingering in the air like an unwelcome guest.

As Xu Feng’s long nearly translucent lashes fluttered, Xuan Yang’s heart tugged. Pregnancy had re-sculpted his features, but he remained their Xu Feng.

Despite the strangers present, both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian were unwavering in their support, reaching out to comfort their beloved as he navigated the unpleasant task at hand.

The room buzzed with new energy as Xu Si and Xu San reveled in the presence of the two children, Xiao Momo and Xiao An. Xu Feng had kept the concoction down for several minutes and the tension was beginning to melt with the two little children’s joyful energy.

Excitement radiated from the youngsters, with Xiao An managing to maintain a quiet composure beside Xu San and Xu Si. However, her fingers couldn’t resist playing with the hem of her vibrant green robe—a bit too large but a luxury compared to their previous clothing.

On the other hand, Xiao Momo, the more lively of the two, couldn’t contain his awe. His fingers danced across the smooth fabric, marveling at its softness. The luxurious robes were a glaring contrast to the simple and worn clothes they were accustomed to, the generosity of their new benefactor, Xu Feng, was great.

The ’wild animal’ trio, however, wore a different air. Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang, while quiet, exuded a supportive presence as they flanked their lover. The room held a subdued atmosphere, a quiet acknowledgment of the significant moment.

Meanwhile, Xu Hu Zhe, standing at the foot of the bed, felt a sense of nervousness. Despite his past experiences on the streets, the foreboding feeling he couldn’t shake had him on edge.

He should be used to sad atmospheres, but...

If even these three—Xuan Jian, Xuan Yang, and Xu Feng—with their remarkable bloodline talents, displayed such fear, what could be looming on the horizon?

With the bowl now back in Midwife Lee’s hands, the remnants of tension from the other bystanders seem to lessen.

The room buzzed with life as Xiao Momo, dressed in his ill-fitting silky blue robes, approached his dad with an excitement that was different form his usually reserved actions.

His eyes sparkled with wonder, and he gestured animatedly to the silky fabric that adorned his small frame.

Xu Feng, now holding down bitter concoction, managed a smile, his eyes shifting briefly from the boy’s enthusiastic display to the silent exchange of glances between Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.

The atmosphere seemed to lighten even among his wild animals. Even Xiao An, the too responsible child, inched closer with her own set of robes, eager to share her silent triumph with her dad.

Xu Si and Xu San observed the children with a warmth in their eyes that hadn’t been present before, further softening their stern expressions.

Yet, in the middle of this new joyous moment, Xu Feng couldn’t shake off the underlying tension. The room hung in an uneasy balance, a mixture of hope and foreboding.

This was only a stopgap measure. He would go into labor soon enough, hopefully it would be a more natural birth, and his body would be fully prepared in the next few hours.

Xu Feng glanced at the small scene before looking back at his closest family—Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian. Everything would be alright.

Xuan Jian’s voice broke the new calm silence, "Will this calm the children?" The strong voice full of concern.

At that, Midwife Lee snapped back into a professional mode. He meticulously began explaining the effects of the bitter medicine, his words weaving through the air like a delicate dance.

Xu Feng, attempting to focus, found himself caught in the tightening grip of an unsettling sensation.

"Yes, it should help with the nausea, and settle the eggs for several hours, but we’ll need to monitor the mistress as he goes into a natural labor. It should be sometime in the early..."

As Midwife Lee spoke, Xu Feng’s brows furrowed, an unspoken discomfort etched across his features. Before he could voice the peculiar feeling, a sudden surge rose within him, a turbulent stream threatening to breach the surface.

Time slowed as the room bore witness to the abrupt shift. Xu Feng, who moments ago wore a mask of reassurance, now grimaced in agony.

The bile, an unwelcome companion to the bitter tonic, surged upward, reclaiming the sheets that had just been refreshed during the children’s bath.
