Chapter 356: Not A Table
Chapter 356: Not A Table
*Readable, but unedited*
Should he burst the little ger’s bubble?
Xu Feng looked at the earnest eyes of the little boy, and the vibrations from his back seemed to egg him on.
After the initial shock and a moment to process the little ger’s comment about the "table," Xu Feng’s mischievous smile returned to its place.
Despite the imposing presence of both Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang in the room, Xu Feng’s smile was nothing short of killer. Dimples framed his charming grin, his windswept silver hair added an air of casual allure, and his eyes twinkled with unmistakable mirth.
Reigniting his playful antics, Xu Feng once again beckoned the children with his "come hither" finger motions.
Mesmerized, the two youngsters moved forward, their eyes fixed on Xu Feng as if he had become a reverse snake charmer, hypnotizing them effortlessly.
As the children approached, drawing within a dozen small baby feet from Xuan Yang, the girl seemed to regain her wits. Swiftly, she dragged her brother back, her little hands a vice grip, uncertain if the little ger was responding entirely to Xu Feng or if he harbored a secret desire to crawl into Xuan Yang’s arms.
Recognizing that this was likely as far as the little ger and little girl would go, Xu Feng decided to ease the tension. He didn’t want to make the children uncomfortable or traumatize them before they even moved into Nanshan Estate.
They had already cleared the threshold of the bed, and were close to the foot.
"Sit on the table...bed, and we’ll talk more about this type of bed," he suggested with a warm smile. Xu Feng believed in honesty with children, preferring to communicate with them in ways they could understand.
Lying wasn’t his style—some little white lies couldn’t be avoided in high society and that was why he wanted nothing to do with that dance—and he knew that children would eventually uncover the truth if deceived.
It might take months or years, but he didn’t want to be the reason these children had even more trust issues, they’d been through enough of that.
Xu Feng’s smile brightened even further, reaching its peak as he witnessed the adorable attempts of the little girl to scale the bed. It was a moment of lighthearted teasing, and he relished in the innocence of the children. He held back his amused chuckles, ensuring he wouldn’t embarrass the little one in the process.
The bed, with its platform styled frame and ornate carved storage panels, exuded a more traditional and refined appearance.
It likely wasn’t what a village girl was used to, he remembered the beds used in the home Xu Zeng grew up in—his farmer "father" had a mattress made from hey that was less dignified in recent years than it had been when Xu Zeng’s "dad" was still alive, and Xu Zeng’s bed was similar until the step mother reclaimed it and had him sleep on simple hay.
Even when contrasting the simpler beds with the sophistication of his current one, he couldn’t think of accepting his beloved bed being transforming into a mere table.
The girl, slightly taller than the bed, finally managed to pull herself up with cute pants of effort. After fixing herself into a presentable state, she looked around in confusion, realizing her brother was still at the foot of the bed, struggling with the sheets.
With determination, the little ger tried to join his sister on the bed, but his efforts fell short due to his tiny arms and frame. Sensing his dilemma, the girl extended her hand to help him up. Yet, before she could succeed, a magical force intervened, lifting the little ger effortlessly.
The magical force was none other than the black haired "handiswome" uncle, Xuan Yang.
As the little ger’s bottom touched the bed, he looked down in shock, his gaze quickly redirecting to the attractive uncle who had aided him. Seizing the opportunity to come face to face with this intriguing figure, the little ger and his sister watched in awe as Xuan Yang gracefully returned to his previous seat, calmly sitting down and ignoring the two children.
The room was filled with a sense of wonder and fascination, as the children observed the unexpected magic of the "handiswome" uncle.
The little ger slowly seemed to remember the light touch that grazed his hair, unsure if the uncle had patted his head or not. It had all happened too quickly.
As the little girl took a moment to collect herself, the room settled into a serene calmness. The uncle, now sitting calmly, exuded an air of chill that seemed to extend to the entire space.
The king sized bed, the centerpiece of the room, was a great vantage point to explore the rest of the room. It really was like nothing the two children had ever seen before.
Even when they had to accompany their dad to other’s homes, they were never allowed to sit on such a nice table. Instead, if it was a wealthy home, they would stay in the area near the animals or in the servants quarters—both areas were warm enough for the children to wait out several hours of labor.
The little girl, having regathered her composure, exhibited a poise that hinted at a well mannered upbringing. A soft, "Thank you, sir," escaped her lips, a polite acknowledgment that resonated with the respect instilled in her from a young age.
Beside her, the little ger blushed, his body responding to the unfamiliar surroundings in an endearing manner. "Thank yew, swir," he chirped, his eyes shy yet filled with curiosity. His gaze wandered around the bed, hands moving ’stealthily’ as he explored the unfamiliar surface with childlike wonder.
The adults in the room couldn’t help but grin as they observed the little ger’s playful exploration, recognizing the unspoken questions bubbling within him. Although he held back, a sense of curiosity gleamed in his eyes, eager to unravel the mysteries of this new and foreign table.
