The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 318: Impressive?
Chapter 318: Impressive?
There was no more movement.
There was only a fully grown man, a ger with a sizeable baby bump, and blankets that weren’t quite in use. While Xu Feng was still unconscious, Xuan Jian didn’t want to leave his belly exposed to the cool air.
First, he covered Xu Feng up partially, tucking him into the blankets, with enough room for himself. Then, he continued to rub the belly, hoping for another response, but nothing happened.
He tapped the belly with a gentle smile on his face, hoping that perhaps their children were simply sleeping soundly.
After none of the doctors "invited" to the estate could determine the state of the children, he began telling himself this.
Even if they were to find a royal doctor, or invite Doctor Ping (the retired royal doctor), it was likely the doctors would all come to the same conclusion. The children were growing well, that would need to be good enough for now.
However, as Xuan Jian prepared to cover Xu Feng back up completely, he felt it—a sudden bump against Xu Feng’s stomach, followed by another, smaller one.
Xuan Jian’s eyes widened in surprise and delight. The children? Could it be?
He placed his hand against Xu Feng’s stomach again, waiting with bated breath. But this time, there was no movement. Xuan Jian removed his hand, feeling a pang of disappointment.
Then, he gently poked Xu Feng’s stomach, one, two. Two times. And just as he had hoped, two little bumps pressed back visibly against the stomach, playful and full of life.
The bumps were so energetic, they could be seen over Xu Feng’s robes.
Xuan Jian couldn’t contain his joy, and a radiant grin spread across his face. The children were lively and they should be healthy, they were already making their presence known.
It was a reassuring sign, and he felt a sense of hope and happiness.
Perhaps it was this continent, and the restrictions placed on it? Were the conditions here just not enough for them?
Xuan Jian placed his hand back flat against Xu Feng’s stomach and shared his warmth, a smile on his face as he got lost in thought.
It was good to share energy with children in lower and higher realms, but in the bubble of Dongzhou, he barely had enough energy to share with the developing eggs. There was little to no energy in the air.
The energy he and Xuan Yang accumulated was due to their physiques, and shear potential. Xu Feng was an anomaly, he attracted energy, birthed energy—his plants, and seemed to attract high energy spirits—the Dong Ancestor and his space.
Still, Xuan Jian knew he had to do more for the children. Xu Feng was strange, and likely not a native of this continent, but he was still clueless about the outside world. Xuan Jian was uncertain about many things when it came to this lover.
Xuan Jian recognized that he couldn’t rely solely on Xu Feng to provide for their children. He needed to take on a more active role in ensuring their well being. They required additional resources and a safer environment for both themselves and the children. He was determined to protect their family, and he knew that staying on this continent would pose risks.
The thought of the older cultivators in Dongzhou, resorting to parasitizing those with potential, filled him with disgust. These "cultivators" or "immortal bloodline descendants" had lost their way on the path to Dao.
To achieve true cultivation, one must follow their own path and maintain purity of heart or at least be a darling of heaven. But then again, the cultivators born in here were so low leveled, they had likely never experienced multiple tribulation strikes, and would likely never experience them.
Their lack of understanding and moral decay made them unpredictable and dangerous.
Something inside him knew for certain, the old mediocre cultivators on this continent, wouldn’t let them be if they were discovered. They were surviving on borrowed time.
In the dimly lit bedroom, Xuan Jian half lay, propping himself up toward the edge of the king sized bed, his large and muscular frame dwarfing the figure of Xu Feng, who lay in deep slumber.
The silver haired ger appeared delicate and ethereal in that moment, like a beautiful sleeping beauty in the middle of the sea of blankets that cocooned him.
The spacious bed was the perfect fit for Xuan Jian, given his imposing frame, and his sharp grey eyes seemed to radiate a mix of excitement, concern, and deep affection as he tenderly rubbed Xu Feng’s prominent baby bump.
Xu Feng’s peaceful expression and the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest as he breathed in his sleep created a calm scene. The room itself gave off an air of peacefulness, with gentle light that bathed the scene in a soft hue.
As Xuan Jian continued to caress Xu Feng’s belly, his heart swelled with love and ambition. His fingers moved in gentle circles, sending soothing waves of reassurance to their unborn children.
He knew that their journey ahead would be filled with challenges and uncertainties, but in this moment, he found comfort and hope in the simple act of connecting with the little ones.
He could almost feel their need for his warmth(?).
Meanwhile, Xuan Yang entered the room quietly, the weariness of the past few days etched on his face. He had been tirelessly managing the Xuan family’s affairs, including dealing with their decision to abolish the contract marriage and the following backlash from the Xuan family.
They insisted on Xuan Yang remarrying after Xu Feng gave birth to a child—a child they thought he still hadn’t conceived yet...
In their eyes, all Xu Feng was good for was having children. Children who would hopefully have rare silver hair and potent enough immortal blood to elevate their status in the capital.
They didn’t understand how special Xu Feng was to him, to them—Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian. He didn’t know how much he would come to love the ger when he first met him, but now he did, and no one could come between them.
A real marriage between Xuan Yang and Xu Feng seemed out of the question for them, he was just a village ger after all. To Lady Xuan, Xuan Yang was her meal ticket.
He kept her in power within the Xuan family. He was the reason she could raise her voice and her head against the former matriarch—Old Lady Xuan, and all the concubines that littered the backyard.
She had given birth to Xuan Yang, a child with a more potent bloodline and potential than her husband—Old Lady Xuan’s son, Xuan Muyang—and was the only partner of Muyang’s to have a child with the immortal snake’s blood.
Xuan Yang kept her seat as the legal wife, and the matriarch of the clan firmly under her bottom, and she wouldn’t let him ruin it.
She said as much in the recent letter sent to him.
Keeping the Xuan family in check was in fact keeping Lady Xuan in check. She outwardly seemed to dote on Xuan Yang, and spoke of all his merits to anyone who would listen, but there was a reason he didn’t call her mother.
She had never been his mother, and he had never had a family. But now he had Xuan Jian, Xu Feng, and their unborn children. He couldn’t help the children in any way that doctors could not, but he could keep them a secret from the Xuan family and provide them with a warmth he never received.
They wouldn’t be tools and pawns like he was.
To make matters worse, the gossip from their last trip to Yilin town had already reached Jinghua—and Lady Xuan, in fact even the neglectful Xuan Muyang had also sent him a letter about this—they were not pleased by him being cuckolded by a village ger.
A village ger who didn’t know his place, and it was unknown if he could get pregnant or not. They were confident with his deep red mole, but now, they were shameless when slinging sh*t at Xu Feng as it suited them.
When he was recruited, Xu Feng had been poisoned by his step mother, and Lady Xuan was still worried that despite the doctor’s approval, Xu Feng would be unable to conceive, then to top it off, Xuan Yang had proposed to marry Xu Feng in truth.
The burden of keeping his mother, Lady Xuan, at bay weighed heavily on Xuan Yang’s mind. Her looming presence threatened to disrupt the delicate balance they had achieved as a trio.
And to be honest, while she didn’t have nearly as much power as Xuan Muyang or his grandfather, Xuan Muchen, Lady Xuan was more ruthless than the two men put together.
Xuan Yang’s temples throbbed with the stress of drafting the next letter to his "mother," a delicate dance of words to dissuade her from visiting, while reassuring her of their "commitment" to the Xuan family.
