Chapter 316: Shaken

Chapter 316: Shaken

In the hushed stillness that followed, the unspoken words echoed in Xu Feng’s mind like a mournful refrain: ’I broke Xuan Jian. I broke Xuan Jian.’ The weight of his actions pressed down on him, and he couldn’t help but feel the immense guilt that surged through him.

He had indeed broken something precious, something he had cherished more than anything.

Xuan Jian, normally composed and cautious, had been reduced to a trembling figure with Xu Feng in his arms. The shaking was breaking Xu Feng’s heart. It was as if Xu Feng had unwittingly unraveled the fearsome bear to reveal the gentle teddy bear hidden beneath.

The realization of what he had done was a heavy burden to bear, and he couldn’t help but question the cost of his recklessness. For the gold to help them cultivate, was it worth it in the end?

The chicken or the egg, which was more important. The man, or the man’s growing safety from all their potential enemies?

Even the simple act of sighing felt to strenuous in that moment. Xu Feng’s body remained relatively limp, and his head continued to swim as if he were caught in a never ending marathon.

He could barely muster the strength to move a single finger, and his heart ached for the distress he had inflicted upon Xuan Jian. The world around him seemed to blur and spin, further disorienting him as he tried to push against the fatigue.

"You cannot be like this," Xuan Jian’s voice finally broke the silence, but it quivered with the same tremors that coursed through his hands.

With great effort, Xu Feng managed to lift his hand and gently stroke his husband’s face, his eyelids fluttering shut as if to shield himself from the chaos. It was a small gesture, an exchange of sight for the use of his arm, a silent assurance that they were still connected.

As the world gradually steadied, Xu Feng’s fear receded, replaced by a sense of relief that he and their unborn children were safe. It was Xuan Jian who now took charge, shifting Xu Feng in his sturdy arms, stabilizing his weight with ease.

The scene painted a moving picture: a tall, brown haired man carrying his silver haired lover effortlessly, as though he held something precious and irreplaceable. The bulk of his weight rested in one hand, while the other provided a superficial support, caressing Xu Feng’s face with tenderness.

In the middle of this display of strength and vulnerability, Xuan Jian found the time to place a kiss on Xu Feng’s hand, grazing the soft open palm, tracing it up and down his face slowly. He longed to kiss his lover more deeply, but the urgent need to get Xu Feng to a bed for rest took priority.

Xu Feng didn’t resist this time, surrendering to the soothing warmth of Xuan Jian’s lips on his hand. He felt a surge of emotion welling up within him, an overwhelming desire to both cry and sleep. "I know," he admitted, his voice filled with genuine remorse. "I’m sorry, Jian."

In that moment, the stubborn ger set aside his pride and acknowledged his mistake, realizing the extent of the hurt he had caused. This was the real treasure, as rare as an immortal treasure!

"Haaah," As the tension that had gripped Xuan Jian slowly dissipated, he released a breath he hadn’t known he was holding, and in an instant, he too felt the weight of exhaustion and relief wash over him.

With Xu Feng still cradled in his arms, Xuan Jian began to make his way from the back courtyard towards the main house. He moved with a deliberate, steady pace, as though he were carrying a precious cargo that couldn’t be jostled.

Each step was measured, ensuring a smooth and safe journey for his silver haired ger whose eyes were still shut. The mischief lover never seemed so quiet...

The path from the back courtyard to the main house was made in silence, broken only by the soft rustling of the leaves and the occasional chirping of birds in the distance. Xuan Jian didn’t falter or pause as he navigated the familiar route, his sole focus on getting Xu Feng to their destination.

Upon reaching the main bedroom, Xuan Jian didn’t hesitate. He walked directly to the king sized bed, gently lowering Xu Feng onto the soft mattress.

As Xu Feng lay there, his hair splayed around him, Xuan Jian took a moment to fix the disarrayed strands, his trembling hands gradually steadying.

After ensuring that Xu Feng was comfortably settled, Xuan Jian slowly sank to his knees beside the bed, his strength seemingly drained. The room fell into a heavy silence, a blunt contrast to the earlier chaos of Xu Feng’s collapse.

Xu Feng’s brow furrowed as he noticed the silence and the absence of Xuan Jian’s warmth beside him. A wave of uncertainty and anxiety washed over him. Had he truly pushed his husband too far with his reckless actions?

The thought gnawed at him, but before it could consume him completely, he felt the weight of the bed shift as Xuan Jian joined him.

Xuan Jian, though not as skilled as Xuan Yang in deciphering Xu Feng’s expressions and thoughts, couldn’t ignore the sadness that clouded his lover’s face. He knew that something was amiss, and he needed to comfort Xu Feng.

The proximity of their bodies, now side by side on the bed, had a calming effect on both of them.

"I’m sorry," Xu Feng whispered, his voice tinged with regret. "The jars..." He hesitated, unsure of how to explain the situation to Xuan Jian, especially the details of his new space ring that wasn’t actually new, and how to use the cultivation words that still eluded his understanding.

There was almost always something going on in the Nanshan Estate. The two unborn children had just added a new layer to things. It wasn’t something Xu Feng could just bull his way through.

Xuan Jian, although still affected by the worry and fear he had experienced, managed a smile. He reached out to gently stroke Xu Feng’s cheek. "Feng Feng," he murmured soothingly.
