Chapter 301: Clingy Clinger
Chapter 301: Clingy Clinger
Back in the comforting embrace of their living room in Blooming Courtyard, Xu Feng laid his head against Xuan Yang’s thigh, reveling in the warmth and security of his husband’s presence.
He had returned to the familiar surroundings of their home, and it seemed that detaching him from the scholar’s side was proving to be more challenging than anyone had anticipated.
Clinginess was a new trait for Xu Feng, one that had emerged along with the prominent bump in his abdomen. It was becoming increasingly clear that this child was of immortal bloodline, as Xu Feng was inexplicably drawn to both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.
Upon their arrival back at Nanshan Estate, Xu Feng had been discreetly ushered into the estate like a well kept secret, everything but his distinctive silver hair hidden from prying eyes.
Only those who had accompanied him on the hike and the two girls, Xu Si and Xu San, who had near complete access to the Blooming Courtyard, were aware of the truth.
The two girls had stared in wide eyed astonishment at Xu Feng’s noticeably very, very, very round belly until Xu Hu Zhe, who had prepared a bath for him, intervened.
Reluctantly, Xu Feng agreed to bathe only if he had company, refusing to be apart from both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.
He could be parted from one but not both at one time. He was aware he was being a bit of a brat, but Xu Feng couldn’t completely get himself under wraps. Both men should be tired, and needed their space, but he wouldn’t let up.
After confirming that his streak of bad luck had finally come to an end, Xuan Jian had taken the responsibility of bathing Xu Feng, cradling him tenderly while Xuan Yang tended to his own cleanliness. Once their roles had reversed, Xu Feng had returned to the warmth of Xuan Yang’s embrace without protest.
The whole process had been quite an ordeal but, Xu Feng had remained remarkably quiet throughout, content as long as he was allowed to cuddle with one of his husbands.
It wasn’t until they were all resting in the living room, the early evening casting a warm glow, that Xu Feng’s ears perked up at the whispered words, "Doctor Ping," exchanged between Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.
His eyes narrowed as he suddenly snapped back to reality, whipping off his languid state realizing that he still had a life to live beyond cuddling with his husbands.
It was then he remembered he had bones, and his whole life wasn’t meant to be spent sniffing Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian.
The reminder of "Doctor Ping" brought a sense of duty and responsibility rushing back to Xu Feng. His light brows furrowed slightly, and he shifted his position, sitting up with determination.
While he relished the moments filled with warmth and affection, he knew that there were important matters to attend to, including the health of both himself and the child he carried.
"Doctor..." Xu Feng began, bracing himself to discuss an important matter that weighed heavily on his mind. He needed to see a doctor, and there was no need for them to deliberate the issue without his input. After all, he was the one who was pregnant.
In the middle of their conversation, which Xu Feng had been zoning in and out of, he had heard Xuan Jian affectionately referring to the future child as "their child," and Xuan Yang had responded with a heartfelt chuckle.
The chuckle, bore an eerie resemblance to the low, haunting laughter of the specter from the forest.
They had all initially agreed not to have children, deeming it too dangerous for the child, but now there was without a doubt a bun in the oven, and both men were prepared to wholeheartedly embrace fatherhood without concern for the child’s actual father—there were no DNA tests here.
Did it even matter? Whether the child was a full blooded human, a fox, or a snake, it should easily pass as the offspring of either Xuan Yang or Xuan Jian.
Yet, the question lingered: ’Should they inform the Xuan family of Xu Feng’s pregnancy?’ He couldn’t forget the last letter that had arrived, inquiring if Xu Feng had fulfilled his duty and become pregnant yet.
Xuan Yang had responded to the letter, and Doctor Ping had sent a correspondence as well, all to prove their story and prevent Lady Xuan from dispatching a doctor from the capital.
Before Xu Feng could complete his sentence, Xuan Yang interjected gently while tenderly caressing his belly, "You were talking to someone at the edge of the forest earlier today?"
The soft strokes on his abdomen seemed to lull Xu Feng’s mind back into a languid state. Struggling, he shook his head, but a sudden wave of dizziness overtook him. He lay back down, this time with his head cradled in Xuan Jian’s embrace and his legs stretched out into Xuan Yang’s thighs.
Being pregnant was hard. The bun in the oven had a lot of explaining to do in the next few months.
Adjusting his position, Xuan Yang continued to massage Xu Feng’s belly, waiting patiently for a response. Xu Feng, in his relaxed state, answered with a contented smile as the dizziness receded in the two men’s embrace, "Yes, the Xuan Ancestor, he’s the owner of the space I cultivated in."
Xu Feng replied like a cat with the cream, nice and relaxed. But Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian weren’t so relaxed. "Xuan Ancestor?" Xuan Jian prodded. "Mhhmm," Xu Feng smiled, "He looks like a crankier version of Xuan Yang, and they even sound the same."
A silence descended upon the room, causing Xu Feng to raise his head in curiosity. Xuan Yang finally broke the silence with a sigh before revealing a piece of information that shifted everything, "This isn’t the ancestral property of the Xuan family. It belongs to the Dong family, it was part of Lady Xuan’s dowry, intended for her eldest son’s wife."
The revelation left Xu Feng stunned. The Nanshan Estate, though not an enormous prize in the grand scheme of things when considering the Xuan wealth, held some significance in terms of family tradition.
By the Dong family laws, it rightfully belonged to him. There was no son in Lady Xuan’s generation, and he was her only son’s wife (either the first son or the first daughter if there was no son in that generation).
Lady Xuan...and Xuan Yang had conned him!
