Chapter 300: Leaving the Forests Behind
Chapter 300: Leaving the Forests Behind
The journey through the Nanshan mountain forest had been both enchanting and exhausting. Xu Feng could feel the weight of the world lifting off his shoulders as he rested against Xuan Yang’s sturdy body, the rhythmic thumping of their footsteps lulling him into a state of peaceful relaxation.
The forest had transformed around them, the once dense and ominous canopy giving way to patches of dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. The soothing scent of mint and eucalyptus filled the air, making each breath feel refreshing and invigorating. It was as if nature itself was serenading Xu Feng, offering a tranquil melody to accompany their journey.
Despite the bumpy terrain they had traversed, the walk back to the edge of the forest felt surprisingly short. Xu Feng marveled at how time seemed to bend and stretch within the woods, creating an experience that defied expectations.
The world around him appeared to be in perfect harmony, a masterpiece of sounds, scents, and sensations that resonated with his very soul.
The burden of the journey for him had been shouldered primarily by Xuan Yang, who had carried Xu Feng effortlessly throughout their trek. Although Xu Feng had expected Xuan Yang to grow weary, his husband remained strong and steadfast, his breath only slightly heavier after the hour long journey.
It wasn’t nearly as winded as Xu Feng would be if he walked on his own. Even minus the baby bump.
Jie, Bo, and Xu Hu Zhe had the heaviest burdens, with wild game, several fruits, veggies, herbs, tubers, and other strange forest finds that Xu Feng had pointed out on their journey in the morning. They also had their burdens from the estate including cooking and hunting utensils and weapons.
Everyone had handled their burdens with grace.
This was absolutely not the case for Xuan Jian. He had struggled with the physical demands of the expedition. Despite his initial attempt to carry Xu Feng, a series of ridiculous mishaps had forced him to relinquish that duty to Xuan Yang.
In a span of 5 minutes, he had tripped over air or vines seven times, nearly dropping Xu Feng each time.
It was as if some invisible force conspired against him, causing him to trip on nonexistent and existent obstacles, stumble into thorny bushes, and even attract the unlikely attention of startled forest creatures.
All of these odd occurrences had begun after the affectionate peck on Xu Feng’s cheek that Xuan Jian had impulsively given. It was as if the forest itself had taken on a mischievous streak, targeting Xuan Jian with a series of bizarre accidents.
However, one pair of eyes had witnessed these strange events with a knowing gaze—Xu Hu Zhe.
The young teen had returned to support Xu Feng and had observed the peculiar incidents unfold before him. Although he had a limited understanding of the situation, he was certain that something extraordinary was happening.
He needed to support Xu Feng, even if his master was pregnant, it shouldn’t be the ghost’s baby.
If it was the ghost’s baby, he wanted to plead with Xuan Yang. At the very least the man...ghost, Xu Feng took to his bed looked similar to him...just more evil...
That was when Xu Hu Zhe saw the affection between the husbands. It was natural. Xuan Yang, Xu Feng, and Xuan Jian. This was a union he wasn’t unaccustomed to, but it wasn’t something the ghost was used to.
As the memory of Xuan Jian’s affectionate peck hung in the air like an unspoken secret, it was as if the world had taken a strange turn. Xu Hu Zhe was clearly in an icy hell, and an echo seemed to be heard somewhere in the distance.
"Shameless..." It was clearly the Xuan Ancestor as Xu Feng endearingly called him. He didn’t seem to like Xuan Jian being friendly with Xu Feng.
It was as if the forest itself had turned against him, the very domain that had once seemed to favor him now rejecting his presence.
While others might have attributed these mishaps to a strange twist of fate, Xu Hu Zhe knew better. He understood that the specter that had previously tormented him had now redirected its attention to Xuan Jian.
It was as if the ghost had chosen its new target, leaving Xu Hu Zhe to breathe a sigh of relief. Xu Feng was fine. He was fine. Xu Hu Zhe was okay with this turn of events.
As they emerged from the dense forest and into the open clearing, Xu Hu Zhe couldn’t help but take in a deep breath of the crisp and refreshing air. It was as though the reach of the vengeful specter had come to an end, leaving him with a sense of freedom.
Meanwhile, Xu Feng stirred from his half sleep state in Xuan Yang’s protective embrace. His silver hair cascaded in disarray as he turned his attention back to the forest, addressing it as if it were a living entity. His words hung in the air, drawing the attention of Jie, Bo, and the rest of the group, who exchanged puzzled glances.
"I don’t think I can cultivate for a while, but I’ll try to come back soon," Xu Feng announced, his voice carrying an air of sincerity. His words sent a shiver down the spines of the onlookers, who couldn’t comprehend his conversation with the unseen.
"I’ll have to see a doctor," Xu Feng continued, his gaze drifting to his belly as he spoke of their health. He offered his gratitude to the "forest" for their care and apologized for his earlier outburst. With a bright smile that seemed to radiate warmth, he nuzzled back against Xuan Yang, oblivious to the perplexed stares of those around him.
A voice echoed in Xu Feng’s head. "Come visit, no more cultivation."
"Hmm," He replied groggily aloud, "This young master (Xuan Yang) is a pain in my ass, but I’ll try." The deep laughter that ensued from Dong Yang left Xu Feng shivering in his lover’s arms.
Xuan Yang was the first to break free from the strange spell that seemed to have enveloped them. He tightened his embrace around Xu Feng, his dark eyes filled with exasperation and alertness.
It was clear to him that this ger was a source of endless surprises and occasional trouble.
