Chapter 255: Big Hero
Chapter 255: Big Hero
In the quiet solitude of the greenhouse, Xu Feng’s hands tenderly touched the vibrant green leaves of the flourishing plants he had nurtured during his break time. The soft, supple texture of the leaves seemed to respond to his gentle caress, as if whispering secrets of growth and resilience.
As he worked diligently, beads of sweat glistened on his forehead, glinting like tiny diamonds in the dappled sunlight that filtered through the glass panes above. The greenhouse was a sanctuary of life, his relentless efforts to breathe vitality into the desolate space would bear fruit.
In the flourishing foliage, Xu Feng couldn’t help but reminisce about the conversation he had shared with his younger brother, Xu Zeng, the previous night. He recalled the vivid image of Xu Zeng’s face, his eyes illuminated with a mixture of admiration, fondness, and a sense of pride.
In his mind’s eye, Xu Zeng’s face lit up like a radiant star, his features aglow with warmth and admiration as he spoke of Xu Feng’s resilience and survival. To Xu Zeng, his older brother was a hero.
His hero.
But in the solitude of the greenhouse, Xu Feng’s own expression painted a different picture. A blush tinged his cheeks, and a shy smile played on his lips. He couldn’t help but feel embarrassed by the pedestal on which his brother had placed him.
To Xu Feng, he was no hero—just a person who liked reading a lot of novels and watching even more dramas.
Yet, the memory of Xu Zeng’s admiration warmed his heart, even as he continued to toil in the rapidly transforming greenhouse. He continued to hum as he worked diligently.

The passage of time within the void had been a mystery, an unsolvable puzzle that eluded Xu Feng and Xu Zeng’s hold. It was an endless expanse of nothingness, a void of existence without tangible markers.
How long had he remained trapped there? A single day? Three long years? Perhaps even a staggering thirty years? The answer eluded them, who knew how long he was lost in the timeless abyss.
Did he hatch from the egg while still caught within the void’s grasp, or was it only upon his emergence into a new world? The questions swirled in his mind, shrouded in the uncertainty of his past. The void had been merciless in withholding its secrets, its truths buried in the space between existence and non existence.
After a bit of talking, Xu Zeng had realized his brother didn’t seem to have all the same knowledge he had. Not the information he’d heard from his fake "dad," the information he should have gotten when he awakened his bloodline potential (wood abilities) hadn’t been transferred to him.
The side effects of his journey across worlds were undeniable.
Xu Feng lacked the information revealed by the awakening of his wood abilities.
They had both undergone near death experiences, their bloodlines ignited with fevers for different reasons at the same time. One in Donghua, the other in Dongzhou.
For Xu Zeng, it had come with a mysterious voice, nameless and in pain. He hoped and prayed it was his long lost brother, and followed the voice willingly.
His journey to find the source of that voice had led him directly to Xu Feng. When he had gotten to this part, he looked at his brother, and then refused to continue the story any further.
The void had taken its toll on Xu Feng, shattering some part of him.
After rolling his eyes at the over tall but tight lipped Xu Zeng, Xu Feng tried to put the pieces together. It must have something to do with how they switched worlds...
When Xu Feng asked to stay back and finish preparing the greenhouse Xu Zeng agreed reluctantly. The greenhouse space would be good for them both, but Xu Zeng wanted to gather as many crystal nuclei as possible to help nurture his brother.
.
.
.
In the small thriving portion of the greenhouse, mutant plants dominated the space. Xu Feng’s gaze fell upon a few specimens that had been cultivated solely by Xu Zeng himself. The brothers shared a common affinity for wood abilities, yet their powers manifested differently.
Xu Feng possessed the ability to nurture and drain vitality from plants for his own use, while Xu Zeng’s capabilities leaned toward controlling plants and channeling their vitality elsewhere.
As of now, that was the extent of their abilities.
The plants in the greenhouse in the modern world were all strange. Xu Zeng hadn’t saved any regular varieties of plants.
This was intentional.
Xu Zeng hadn’t held back from any of the other questions Xu Feng asked and this one he answered willingly too. He was collecting as many mutant plants as he could in addition to crystal nuclei in order to allow them to cultivate quicker.
He wanted them to become stronger to break out of Dongzhou, and strong enough to leave their low cultivation world, Zhoujin, entirely.
Why would they need to leave Zhoujin so desperately?
If they remained within Zhoujin, they would forever be vulnerable to those with immoral intentions—like their personal tonics. A source of power to be devoured without hesitation.
As Xu Feng contemplated their problem, the scene played out vividly in his mind, a conversation that left him disgusted.
.
.
.
"Why would they still want to eat us?" Xu Feng asked, his skepticism evident in his voice.
Xu Zeng pondered the question for a moment before responding, his tone thoughtful, "They shouldn’t want to eat us anymore... Well, maybe the humans would want to eat us now."
The thought of being consumed by humans left Xu Feng disgusted, his face warping in dislike.
But Xu Zeng continued, "They should want to fuck us."
Xu Feng’s confusion deepened, unable to comprehend the logic behind his brother’s words. "They should want to breed us, so we birth more babies they can eat..."
The implications of his words were as unsettling as they were grotesque. Xu Feng’s imagination had never been subjected to such disturbing scenarios, and he hoped it would never be forced to.
Xu Zeng had more to say, "They wouldn’t have been able to hatch us without the energy of the void. They couldn’t breed us easily. It would take ancient fruits that aren’t available in that small world. The only ones who could impregnate us... is us."
"..." Xu Feng’s face was white even in the world between worlds.
