Chapter 254: The Second Origin Story
Chapter 254: The Second Origin Story
With the prophecy of the gifted immortal beast of the bird clan, a faction previously overshadowed by their more dominant counterparts began to rise. This faction was led by a respected immortal beast, one who typically remained in the shadows, keeping a low profile despite their considerable power.
While this leader was thousands of years younger than the two powerhouses that had entered the secret realm, they were still a formidable Star (7) level beast. However, their potential was slightly lower than the peak Star level achieved by the previous contenders.
This particular beast boasted a bloodline bearing distant ties to true dragons—a lineage that had been reduced to mere legend, similar to how the "5 immortal beasts of Dongzhou" were to the people of Dongzhou.
In Zhoujin, there were no true dragons to be found, and it was uncertain if more than a handful of these magnificent creatures existed on any world, even within the higher planes of existence.
Those with any connection to dragon blood were often considered treasures of the heavens and were celebrated as exceptional cultivation talents.
The dragon descendant immortal beast devised a daring plan and managed to steal the coveted eggs, vanishing into thin air. Sometime later, a violent rift between worlds was sensed by all demon beasts and cultivators of the 6th rank and above, indicating that a passageway to a higher realm had been forcibly opened.
It was clear that the dragon descendant immortal beast had utilized a prized artifact in addition to brute strength to escape the relentless pursuit of the entire cultivation world.
Passageways between worlds could be discreetly opened using artifacts or other tools, avoiding the detection of outsiders. However, in this case, it was evident that the dragon descendant had been driven to desperate measures to avoid capture. Many believed that he had perished within the void he had torn open.
Despite the relentless search, the eggs remained elusive, hidden away by the dragon descendant and his followers. What the world did not know was that these precious eggs had been smuggled into the forsaken Dongzhou continent, where cultivation was nearly impossible.
Dongzhou was a desolate and barren place, surrounded by barriers and restrictions that contained the decay of spiritual energy to a single continent so it wouldn’t corrupt the rest of Zhoujin world.
The barriers stopped cultivators from entering without their cultivation level being suppressed. And once they were inside, they couldn’t come back out...
They were trapped, like rats.
The two eggs, believed to hold the key to revitalizing cultivation, lay concealed within this cursed land, guarded by the descendants of the dragon descendant’s faction.
It wasn’t until the supposed "5 Immortal Beasts of Dongzhou" were exiled to this remote continent, which was considered a backwater by many, that the secret hiding place was discovered.
This unexpected revelation raised the question: How did they stumble upon this well-hidden location?
The truth was that one, or possibly more than one, of the "5 Immortal Beasts of Dongzhou" had never truly been exiled. Instead, they had been covertly transported to this barren land to search for the eggs in the one place that had remained unexplored.
While many believed that the dragon descendant had attempted to ascend to a higher cultivation world, there was also the possibility that he had left the eggs behind as he fled for his life.
The turning point in this hidden battle for power and survival occurred 17 years ago when one of the most powerful descendants of the Five Immortal Beasts, a descendant of the wolf with a secret mission, located the faction’s place of seclusion and orchestrated a brutal massacre of its members.
The wolf and his people, now in a state of panic, managed to get their hands on both of the eggs and attempted to use a teleportation talisman to escape the forbidden continent of Dongzhou.
Unfortunately, there was no teleportation talisman powerful enough to breach the barriers and restrictions of Dongzhou and stay within Zhoujin.
In their desperation, the wolf, foolishly activated the talisman, hoping to escape the confines of Dongzhou and abandon his people. However, the void opened by the talisman was unable to break through the impenetrable barriers, leading to the wolf’s instantaneous demise in the void.
The two precious eggs were caught in the violent suction of the void, neither destroyed nor successfully transported. They remained suspended in this perilous state for hours, as those who witnessed the scene could only watch in horror. Any attempts to approach the eggs were met with instant dismemberment by the unforgiving void.
The surrounding area was a bloody mess.
As the third hour passed, the sound of cracking filled the air. The egg on the right began to crack first, and a sense of dread descended upon the onlookers. The fate of the eggs, whether they were the saviors of the worlds or a source of immortality, depended on the party.
One member of the faction, driven by desperation and nerve, hurled the most powerful transportation talisman they possessed. This talisman, designed to transport people to lower realms with the assistance of a higher level cultivator, held the possibility of breaking through Dongzhou’s barriers.
It was a desperate gamble. The hope was that the energy from this talisman would overshadow the previous one and lead to a successful escape.
This time, another void emerged, and the eggs cracked at an accelerated rate as the dark energy surged several fold and the danger area grew. But before they could fully break open, one of the eggs shifted.
Once. Twice. Three times.
Knocking the other out of the vacuum created by the dual voids.
The shock was deep among the faction members. The act of one egg seemingly saving the other suggested a level of sentience that had never been detected before. Those tasked with guarding the eggs had never sensed any signs of life within them, especially in the harsh, low energy environment of Dongzhou.
As the first egg and the first void were swallowed by the larger void, most of the faction members were left in stunned silence. It was a moment of both tragedy and shock.
It was at this moment Xu Zeng’s dad really believed the two eggs might actually revitalize the worlds...
Xu Zeng’s face had lit up when he told this part.
